I can’t say I was surprised to see both Academia Students and the Lancers getting carded, I expected that much out of the Battle Royale, but dropping like flies? That was something else entirely, and even more so when they threw in a mysterious 11th Player who is currently responsible for both teams’ demise. And honestly speaking, I was surprised how I wasn’t as irritated as I would imagine myself to be. Perhaps I have already subconsciously acknowledged the fact there will be ‘pace convenient‘ episodes solely for the sake of making up the loss time to pave out a solid path to the resolution of the series. This was undoubtedly one of them unless by some cheesy twist everyone who was or will be taken out will be freed from the cards almost immediately afterwards. If they choose not to do this however, it also points how they are deliberately chopping down the cast numbers in enable main and other chosen characters to be the primarily focus for the rest of the series. (And on that note: If Crow of all people gets out of unscathed, then I will have to ask: What is with the staff’s obsession with this guy? But for now we will wait and see what happens before I express my thoughts on that.)

; ____ ; TSUKIKAGE!!!!!!!!!!!

So far the fallen includes two Lancers: Tsukikage, Sawatari, and three members of Academia’s Elite Students (which included one of the brothers (green hair) who I quickly became fond of. Bummer he was taken out…) The Green-Haired Brother was actually the only one for a time who saw the 11th player as he witnessed one of his colleague be carded by a player who was not included. Unfortunately we never got to find out more about it, and it wasn’t until Tsukikage left a message to confirm that yes, there are eleven players on the field. Right now we have no idea what is up with this mysterious 11th Player, it wouldn’t make any sense whatsoever for them to have lived on the field because it was never a jungle in the first place. I am not sure if this is a too much of a stretch, but I am wondering if there is actually a program within the system creating this player. The keyword: LOST keeps on appearing on the screen that the students are watching, and many thought it was a bug in regards to the a player’s defeat when in fact appears it is alerting them lost of contact since they were not actually defeated. If they were, they would not remain on the map.

YGO ARC V Ep 118 Img 0017With that in mind, I am starting to wonder maybe the 11th Player is a bug in the system, especially who he is instantly carding everyone (eg: one-punch, BAM carded). If not- well I don’t know what kind of explanation they are going to come up with this one since the player’s clothes, hair and behavior sounds a lot like some crazy Academia Student survivor- but again there was no jungle to begin with so… Yeah… We’re going to have to wait and see for this one… But I am not holding my breath for any logical explanation.

Luckily for us however, they are going to transition away from this… whatever the heck is happening… and go back to show us the duel between Shun and Ruri. I am really looking forward to that and to see if Shun’s knowledge of his sister’s deck will come in handy in any way. While Yuugo more or less had the same advantage, Shun will also be put at the disadvantage with how they will be exploiting her memories by using them as a cheat-sheet to his deck and overall strategy. Like I said back in regards to Yuugo’s duel, the only way they can work around that is to have developed a new strategy, added new monsters and have a didn’t approach to forcefully stop them using the cheat-sheet. I ams also looking forward to seeing their backstory and to find out what the heck made Shun slap Sayaka’s Fairy card out of Ruri’s hand. Dude, why so mad?

Lastly Edo did reach Yuugo, and lets him know that the girls are being controlled. Yuugo quickly followed up with the major factor of how the parasite is the biggest clue to who the controller is, and how they are being controlled. Yuugo feels that if they can defeat the parasite, it will at least play a part in freeing the girls. With how there is an actual parasite in their brain right now, it is definitely possibility that is all they need to do, but ultimately at the end of the day, they will likely have to defeat the one who controls and wields the parasites.

As the build-up to the upcoming finale, this episode was such a yawn-fest, even by filler standards! :p TSUKIKAGE, geez he met his demise in such a lame manner, but then again did we get to see him win one duel properly on his own apart from that OTK against Mieru in a flashback or when he teamed up with other Lancers? Sawatari screamed like he’s about to get carded as well, plz don’t go down Neo New Sawatari, we need you to fight/lose to Yuri to complete your quadruple against the 4 Yutagonists AND make the shipping of you and Serena to be a reality! >_> BTW, was that wild dude using Gladiator Beasts?!! O_O
Next week, yay Shun & MUH BIRDIE RURI are reunited… and of cuz they need to duel due to Parasite mind-controlling thingy! And seeing Shun shoving away Little Fairy from Ruri made me laughed hard, the card that smashes your spine through dimensions certainly needs to be ditched before its luck destroys you! XD
And finally: Ruri running a Lyrical Luscinia deck confirmed!

“If Crow of all people gets out of unscathed, then I will have to ask: What is with the staff’s obsession with this guy?”
Eva, this IS Komoney’s marketing scheme of selling more Blackfeathers. They succeeded back in 5D’s era, and are currently propping up BOTH Blackfeathers and Raidraptors (see the Crow VS Shun duel in episodes 81-82) because they sell real good! -_-”
“So far the fallen includes two Lancers: Tsukikage, Sawatari”
OH HELL NOT SAWATARI! I can’t believe that at this point, I actually wanted him to SURVIVE just so that he can be relevant for once in the show by dueling/losing to Yuri and make the Sawatari X Serena ship a reality! Plus, we haven’t seen him being properly carded, didn’t we? Poor Tsukikage though, the show NEVER did him justice, there goes any legit Ninja support… T_T
“I am starting to wonder maybe the 11th Player is a bug in the system”
Nah, he a LIVING PERSON for the sake of more Gladiator Beast support!
“what the heck made Shun slap Sayaka’s Fairy card out of Ruri’s hand. Dude, why so mad?”
I must defend Shun because he did the RIGHT thing, that Little Fairy is a SHIT card used by a useless duelist (yes Sayaka, that means you), and Ruri is about to add that trash inside her deck? Shun must be like, “WE KUROSAKI’S ARE NOT USELESS!!! WHO DO YOU THINK YOU ARE, A CERTAIN “KOTORI” FROM ZEXAL??!! GET THAT SHIT OUTTA HERE!!!”

If they’re going to eliminate Sawatari and keep Crow around, it’s most likely because keeping the latter is to appease Yu-Gi-Oh fans who wants to see interactions between crossover characters. This is only my opinion though. I don’t really like the way the staff just tossed supporting characters who rarely got much appearances or not really doing well in major Duels, but at the same time I also want to know quickly about the mysteries behind the main characters, so I also feel this kind of thing is not so bad…
I hope they’re not going to waste so much time in this Survival Duel and just get the to important parts already.

This was honestly a better episode than i expected. Like you said there is a bit of rushed pacing… i am curious as to who that mysterious player could be, although they did keep that surprise from last week. i am trying to think if it is any character we’ve met WAY back at the beginning like Kachidoki, because lets be honest it would be kind of silly to bring out a character that we’ve never seen before thus dont care about them in any way. Otherwise this whole survival duel thing is still what i initially thought and a fillerific pointless episode that they could’ve avoided… But i think they wanted to have some kind of tournament level like we’ve had in the last two dimension before the intermission dimension of XYZ.
Why did they not just bring them to the professor or dungeons or (even darker) kill them when they captured them? It’s like giving a prisoner a weapon and expecting that they have no chance to escape! Idiots!
Speaking of which… holy crap! Leo wants Yuya dead! Ok, so you were pretty much correct Eva. Leo doesnt want the Yu-boys…
So looking forward to next week as we can finally see what Ruri’s deck will be. It looks like it’ll be a mix between songbirds and angels from the monster we saw. I hope there’s angels in there!
Speaking of the flashback… was it only recently that Shun became less douchey? I mean wow! Slapping the card away like an asshole?
Also have to say that i prefer Ruri’s rebellion outfit than her tan dress. She looks more badass! And she looks to be speaking more and i’ve only heard it twice speak full sentences and i LOVE IT!! Next episode will cement Ruri’s place on the table for me!

Ok 1st NOOOOOOOOOOOO! MOON SHADOW(TSUKIKAGE), WHY!
2nd I really hope they save Silvio(Shingo) before it’s too late.
Now the episode itself was alright, not nearly as good as the last one, but hey those are big shoes to fill. For one I would have liked to see some on screen duels, and both the Lancers and the Academy seem to be stupid with their attack strategies.
But I have to say this is not at all how I thought the final stages of the war with Duel Academy would go. If you asked me back when episode 105 came out I would have said this: The Lancers would all regroup and plan there final assault to stop Leo and save the 4 Zuzu(Yuzu) girls. First Declan(Rejii) would have duelist from Standard, some Security from Syncro and the surviving no name characters from the Xyz Resistances engaged all the fodder students and Obelisk Force, while the Lancers and there allies like Sora, Crow, Jack, Kite, Chojiro, Sayaka and Alexis, snuck in the back.
Then they would split up half of them would go with Sora to the prison area to rescue the girls, while the other half went with Declan(Rejii) to get his father in the throne room. Both groups would meet one duelist who got in there way, Barret for Sora’s group and Dennis for Declan(Rejii) group. Each group would leave one or two duelists behind to deal with them, then after saving the girls and winning the duels everyone would meet up and cheer Yuya and Declan(Rejii) on as they dueled Yuri and Leo.
But just like my prediction of how the Syncro arc would end I was way off, defiantly didn’t see this survival duel and the girls being brainwashed coming.
Oh boy through next episode looks good, in fact it deserves a Dragon Ball Z type of preview: Narrator: Next time on Yugioh Arc V, our heroes try to regroup to survive what evers in the jungle. While Shay(Shun) finally catches up with Lulu(Ruri) can he win and get her back himself, or will he need help from Kite(Kaito) (Who should be with him, since he was following him). Find out on the next Yugioh Arc V.

And now a memorial service for Moon Shadow(Tsukikage). Just imagine Yugioh Zexal’s 6th ending Challenge the Game playing in the background.
Here are the images and clips I would chose in dedication to Moon Shadow(Tsukikage):
Image of his 1st appearance in episode 38.
Image of him and his brother protecting Celina(Serena) and Shay(Shun) in episode 48.
Image of him facing off against the Obelisk Force in episode 89.
Clip of him playing three face downs in episode 48.
Clip of him discarding a card to activate “Hazy Shuriken” in episode 68.
Clip of him having his “Getsu Shogun” attack the Obelisk Force in episode 89.
Clip of him and his “Twilight Ninja Shinguestu” coming to Zuzu(Yuzu)’s protection in episode 92.
And lastly a Image of him charging at the mysteries guy who carded him in episode 118, the image turns black and white to symbolism his demise.
I really hope I don’t have to do this for Silvio(Shingo) or Crow in the next episode or two.

I have a feeling that Shun slapping Sayaka’s card out of Ruri’s hand will be brought up and be used against him.
As much as I liked the Synchro Arc, I have to admit it did suck the life and soul out of ARC V causing Episodes 100 and later to be rushed.

  8. Reverse Inverse

I don’t mind Tsukikage’s death happening the way it did. I mean, it would be cool seeing him get more spotlight before it happening, but all in all he was never really in the focus. He was just there, always getting stuff done silently and swiftly. So going out away from the centerstage is a fitting death for such a good ninja
As for Sawatari, I don’t think he’s done for yet. He may still die in this battle Royale but he is a bit more major as a character to go offscreen like that. And they wouldn’t axe him without giving Underground Troupe a last chance to be shown.
And I can’t describe how hype I am for Ruri vs Shun. If it’s half of what Rin vs Yugo was, we have a great episode ahead.
