Raise of hands if you thought with the way it was going, Twilight and Kanata were going to encounter one another. It wasn’t even three minutes into the episode and all the sudden as if there was a flashing neon sign there were some blatant scenes pointing to how Twilight, like many have been speculating is more or less guaranteed to be Kanata’s younger sister. I MEAN FOR CRYING OUT LOUD, HOW MORE OBVIOUS CAN IT GET? Kanata’s sister is meant to be Cure Scarlet. The kid has freaking red hair, plays the violin, and now connect all the dots from the little things which had occurred in the past episodes, along with the fact Twilight felt as if someone was calling her, the Precure Perfume which has a RED icon on it. Gee if that doesn’t scream “Oh look, Twilight is totally supposed to be Cure Scarlet”, I don’t know what does. (And why are the red heads always last to join the party? It appears to be a thing). Go! Princess Precure Ep 19 Img 0018However, just because the perfume called out to her and she got her hands on it doesn’t mean it’s now sunshine and rainbows. Nope, Twilight is delighted by her discovery not because of the warmth but because of the power it will provide her. The tool which she will use to become stronger- however it’s a matter of whether or not it will actually work the way she wants its to. Either she brings it to Dyspear to corrupt in order to make it compatible with her Dark Key, or maybe she won’t need to do that in order for it to work for her. Either way, this certainly opens to the opportunity (*mind you I have chosen not read any in depth spoilers and would prefer to avoid it at all cost) of Cure Scarlet actually potentially being a Dark!Precure. This would allow Twilight to become stronger while continuing her role as the villain for a while longer. Of course due to the straight up name of “Cure Scarlet” implies the redemption and rescue coming soon, so we will have to wait any see how this situation will unfold.

The theme of the episode was recognizing the growth and an individual. Haruka, Minami and Kirara all had someone point out to them how they have positively changed. The treasure hunt they did at the dorm were to solve a bunch of riddles, leading to the final one of, “Everyone sees this differently. Every day, it changes bit by bit.” with the answer being “Your reflection in the mirror.” And it’s true, we ourselves have a more difficult time recognizing the little change we go through, but others are able to see it more clearly. I liked this particular theme because it highlighted the little things that were considered as bit changes to our characters. Minami is smiling more, Kirara is being more sociable with her classmates making her more approachable, Haruka is catching herself before she repeats a mistake and praised for her efforts she puts into her activities.

One of the little things I appreciated this episode was how they showed us Haruka still imperfect with the violin. She is practicing a song she likes over and over again despite her blunders because she likes it so much. eventually she is able to play without a mistake, but it’s nice to see her working on one piece at time and shown to struggle a bit rather than master it on the whim.

With Twilight doing her own thing today, Shut went out to seek revenge against the Precure- without a buff up. Man I can’t tell you have relieved I was just to see him go out of his way to do that. But he’s the leader of the Princess Twilight Fan Club, he can’t lay around and wait for a buff up! No! He takes the initiatives and stir up trouble, and while he couldn’t defeat the Precures, I praise him for at least trying.

Next week the girls are teleported to the Hope Kingdom where there Kanata and Haruka will finally reunite in person and they will also be searching for the remaining keys said to be hiding within the Hope Kingdom.

I thought for a fact that Twilight and Kanata were going to encounter each other and have a battle. Looks like that won’t happen until next episode. They’re pretty good with the previews. Always making you guess what’s going to happen.
I must say “Yay! A Shut episode too!” Shut is like me about him. I just adore him so much. I feel like I’m the only English speaking person that is a major fan of him. Even if he does some of the dumbest things and pushes it a little far, you gotta admire that determination, that also tends to end humorously. His admiration for Twilight is just so sweet too. You can tell it’s not just admiration, he’s in deep.
Which is why, sadly, I sense a major heartbreak for him in the future. I feel like it can only go down for Shut in three ways. The two bad ways are that he either dies going crazy to get Twilight back (similar to Close’s death) or he takes the blow for Twilight (like if her mom gets so mad she attacks her own daughter or sends Lock to do so). Then there’s that small bit of hope that Twilight tries to reform him and it works and he ends up being a fairy (I always felt like the Dusketeers were fairies since Miss Shamore looks similar to the Dusketeers with the eyes and elf ears and all). I can only hope for third way. I mean, she would have to feel bad for him being he’s so loyal to her and she didn’t give him the time of day to appreciate that. He even tried protecting her (Twinkle’s episode) and put up a good fight to the cures even without the buff up just for her! Poor guy…
Though on tumblr, there’s been rumors/theories going around that Close is not dead, just in a coma/or will be revived and out of commission because three is a crowd with Twilight around and that he might come back once Twilight reforms. If that’s so, there’s a chance for all three of them then to live at the end. Here’s hoping. They are really good villains (best ones I think since Smile Precure) and I feel it’s such a waste to just kill em off like they were nothing.
I also have a theory that Lock may not be all that he seems to be. Like I dunno, but Lock is the only Dusketeer that never once lost his cool and is rather confident for someone that is just a mere servant. Most servants, especially a child, would lose their cool, at least eventually. He could just be a rather different servant but sometimes, I wonder if there’s something more than meets the eye, especially since in the opening, his shadow is rather creepy. It could just be some fun effect to show he’s evil, but again, I dunno. He’s hardly around, when he loses he never loses his cool, even after Close’s death, not even once (he may get surprised but that’s about it) and he’s a little too confident for someone that works under Twilight and Dyspear. He claims to be the strongest of the three and I wonder how and why that is?
It could just be me, but I’m not too sure. Lock is especially shrouded in mystery being a kid and all. Can’t help but feel there’s something up with him. Okay enough of me yapping. Great review! These past episodes have been just a wild ride and that’s a good thing! It makes it more exciting and less predictable! Here’s hoping for more great episodes!

I hope it wasn’t the last we have seen of Crow, it would be awesome to see him return. I wouldn’t put it past me either after Happiness Charge if Shut and Close were the Hope Kingdom fairies before Dyspear came into power.
I absolutely agree. Lock’s confidence as a villain stands out so when he is not in action, I always wonder what he is doing. He has proven to be very bright, so I wouldn’t put it past me if he isn’t all what he seems. I think he’s just waiting for the appropriate moment to strike, until then he will just “play” around.

I will say one more thing. It was amusing to see Shut in his purple umbrella/parasol. It was so adorable and like how it matches his outfit! Too bad he left it. It was so cute and it really completes him. Wonder where he got it though?
I imagined a “What if Close was still alive” where Shut and Close going in the rain together and Close comments how stupid the umbrella looks and Shut simply implying that he has fashion to protect and calling Close “Mr. My Hair Is So Spiky It Makes A Cactus Look Soft!” XD
Kay, now I’m done with my ramblings about them and agree about Lock.

I agree about Haruka still imperfect for playing her violin and that the “go princess trio” have changed they’re usual selves in front of new friends and colleagues. This episode sure reveals a curious past of Prince Kanata, especially about the red haired girl. And yet, it reveals a certain relationship between Twilight and Kanata. What will happen next? I’m looking forward for the next episode of the series! Let’s see what will happen!

I really hope they keep twilight on the bad side a little longer and like you said for her to be a “dark precure”. But the epside was very special in the sense that we see how much the girls have grown and blossomed since their first episode of becoming a precure.
The Kanata and Haru ship is going to be crazy next episode!!!

  4. HoHo

Nice character development. It’s an enjoyable episode. Fighting scene is unnecessary but I guess it’s a requirement for every episode. Miss Shamour should have more role. She is my favorite Precure fairy mascot.
“With this perfume, I will be the same as the Precure…”
Yes, you will be the same as you wish! lol It’s now 99.99% confirm that Twilight is Cure Scarlet unless Toei pulls another Cure Ace on us again. It shouldn’t be long before her joining the team.
In case that you don’t know, there is no Precure episode on 21/06 due to golf live broadcast.
