Did last week hiatus kill you? Because it certainly killed me, but we were in for a treat this episode so it was well worth the wait!

It seems many people had thought the plot progression was going to be put on hold but this week’s episode proved them wrong with continuing with the progression, addressing the confusion which allowed Yuuya to come to a conclusion of what he must do along with dropping a whole bunch of Easter eggs. If you skipped the OP, you missed a lot of major changes and hints regarding what will be happening in the future episode, but I will get to that later.

Yu-Gi-Oh ARC-V Ep 38 Img 0014Since the incident, Yuuya has been unconscious for two days. Right from the minute he wakes up, he is restless, confused and upset. Yuuya exchanges the information with Yuzu about the four worlds, Sora, Yugo and Yuuto’s sudden disappearance along being entrusted his beloved dragon as she in return shares tidbits of information that she knows back, such as assuring him that she too has someone who looks alike (Ruri). He decides that the only one they can turn to for an explanation about the four dimensions is Shun, so he and Yuzu head out to find him. However, it was proven not to be that simple. When they asked the LDS Elite gang if they can meet him, they learned that he doesn’t talk to anyone. To make the matter more complicated, we are then shown that Reiji is keeping Shun in the dark about Yuuto’s disappearance and is focusing on analyzing his duel disk. Boy… Shun is without a doubt going to be in for an unpleasant surprise if Yuuya ends up using XYZ Dark Rebellion Dragon within his next duel. And Shun doesn’t like surprises.

Now here’s the thing. I am actually unsure about whether or not Yuuya will actually use XYZ Dark Rebellion Dragon because far as I am concerned, he doesn’t know how to XYZ Summon, and I have an even harder time believing he will be able to master it in one day.

Yu-Gi-Oh ARC-V Ep 38 Img 0030It was no surprise to see how much Yuuya has been affected by the incident. He has become even more sensitive to witnessing violent and aggressive duels and as we have seen, has shown a more mature side of him. He is cutting straight to the chase, making smart decisions. He sees this pattern developing and I feel that he is concerned about the war coming to their world and he is determined to protect the happiness and joy of dueling. This is where they deliver the powerful impact.
In the beginning of the series we didn’t think much about how important Entertainment Duels were going to be, how much they were going to be part of the storyline. Now that we are able to see how vital its role is going to be, it makes Yuuya’s Entertainment Duels meaningful. It is more than just entertaining the crowd, it’s to protect the joy people get out of dueling and encourage others to duel competitive in a creative way where no one gets hurt. That is why Yuuya feels so strongly about competing against someone so violent.

Yu-Gi-Oh ARC-V Ep 38 Img 0028Which brings us to the HOLY SHIT WHAT JUST HAPPENED moment.
I don’t think any of us expected Yaiba’s duel to unfold in the way it did.
And poor Yaiba, he didn’t deserve to go through that.

Duels just got physical in Yu-Gi-Oh! and by that I mean, a duelist literally beating the living shit out of the opposing duelist with their own hands. Yaiba’s opponent was Isao, a student from Ryozanpaku Dueling School. We don’t know exactly what Isao did, but regardless he had defeated Yaiba in one turn with apparently no monsters and was seen holding Action Cards. So what’s the catch here? Is he pulling a similar tactic to what Gongenzaka had done back in Episode 30, allowing him to equip the whatever it is and “be” the monster/effect? On that note, another character to pay attention to who had done something similar is Fuuma’s School Tsukiage, who had also defeated his opponent (Mieru) with a One Turn Kill. Whether or not we will see Yuzu, Gongenzaka, Shun or Yuuya go up against him, we will have to wait and see.

OKAY NOW TO POINT OUT THE CHANGES IN THE OP!
Here, I am being generous today! I will provide you folks with screencaps~

YGO Arc-V OP 2 Changes

CHANGE/ADDITION #1: Clear Wing Synchro Dragon – That was a given.
CHANGE/ADDITION #2: Yuuri’s Evil Revelation – That was a given, and boy does he look evil.
CHANGE/ADDITION #3: THE PERFECTION OF YUUYA AND YUUTO TOGETHER ALONG WITH THEIR DRAGONS, THEIR MISSION TO SPREAD HAPPINESS AROUND THE WORLD!!
CHANGE/ADDITION #4: Yuzu and Ruri??????

Okay, so we don’t know for sure yet whether or not this girl is Ruri- but since she has purple hair and green eyes, let’s just say that she is. But that is in fact not the important part about this screencap, it’s the bracelet. Most noticeably, though you will probably have a hard time seeing it since screencap is smaller than the actual video resolution, Ruri(?) bracelet is supposed to purplish-blue (or just purple, like her hair). But if you look closely, her piece in her bracelet is in fact, black! (Or maybe it only shines purplish-blue). (Don’t believe me? Well I checked on Photoshop with my eyedrop tool, just to be sure!) I find that interesting because I wonder if it lost its color after it was used for whatever purpose Academia is after. Nevertheless I am curious as heck to find out whether or not this is FusionWorld!Yuzu or the Ruri we have been waiting a little more then twenty episodes to meet. If it is Ruri, it will be very interesting to find out whether or not she has been brainwashed into using Fusion Summons. Best of all, this girl finally had air time within the episode and appearance twice. The first time was when Sora was having a hissy fit how he needs to go back to the Standard World to beat up the XYZ Scrums and she was leaning against the wall outside of the room smirking, and the second time was her walking around the Standard World city where Ayu actually thought she had saw Yuzu (aka her parrallel world self). GOD THAT KID AS HAWK EYES, HELL SHE HAS BETTER EYESIGHT THAN THE CHARACTERS IN KDRAMAS (no seriously, they miss EVERYTHING)).

Finally, last but not least let’s have a moment to talk about the not-as-important but glorious moments of the episode!

Yu-Gi-Oh ARC-V Ep 38 Img 0004Oh bless Mieru, that charming sweetheart I can’t get enough of her (her image of Bishie Version Yuuya killed me). It was hilarious to watch her burst into Yuuya’s room from his window and see how both Yuuya’s mother and Yuzu reacted. It got even better when they actually followed her advice of changing Yuuya out of his grey pjs into green and white ones due to the fact grey drains his fortune. Surely enough, after she left, Yuuya woke up. Of course that was the best part: the way Yuuya’s mother and Yuzu teamed up and went on how Mieru needs to go and compete in the tournament instead of forfeiting for Yuuya’s sake. It worked and Mieru went off to compete only to lose in a one turn KO.

Then there was that awkward moment with the kids mentioning how they can’t wait for Sora to come back and Yuzu and Yuuya were like, “……..”. The kids have no idea what happened and how batshit crazy Sora actually is- well actually they were given a hint but they obviously let that fly over their head probably thinking it was a one time thing. Sorry kiddies, he’s crazy.

SPECIAL BONUS: I AM FINALLY TOLD WHAT GENDER ESSPURR-KID Reira is! HE IS A BOY!
And Shivers Kid lost to him (yes they spared us from watching his duel), and it turns out Reira can do multiple summonings technique like his brother as he had used Synchro during Shivers Kid’s duel

And one last thing: I find it a bit funny how neither Yuzu or Yuuya have considered the possibility of Parallel Worlds/Alternative Dimensions. At this point I am more or less expecting Reiji or Shun to be the one to explain.

ROUND TWO MATCH-UPS

Yuuya VS Isao
Yuzu VS Naname Mikio Duel Girls Club
Gongenzaka VS Tanegashima Yuuzou from Surprise School

i think this girl in the opening is the fusion yuzu which showed in the shadow in this episode while the doctor took care of sora. i also think this fusion yuzu is ruri. also it great that after yuya dual in the next episode we will have more awesome plot episode

    1. Eva

The more I think about it the most I believe she most likely Fusion!Yuzu because it can’t be this easy to find Ruri, right? And why would they send one of their targets (unless she is brainwashed) into the field? But it would be interesting if like you said, Fusion!Yuzu is Ruri- but unless they brainwashed her into learning Fusion Summon, I have a hard time believing it when she originates in the XYZ Dimension along with the fact she is Shun’s sister. There are four Yuuyas, so there are bound to be four Yuzus- it’s just a matter of whether or not we will be given the chance to meet them all.

-_- it somehow just posted my comment in the middle of me writing it. This was what I was saying.
Well this episode shows that Yuuri doesn’t look all that bad as long as he has an evil glare compared to his rather derpy debut appearance. Also the character designs/animation were a lot better this episode, especially with Yuya’s mother. I kind of understand that why they jump around art directors but at the same time I wish that all the episodes would just retain the same level of quality. Like this episode quality should have been in the Yuzu vs Masumi episode.

    1. Eva

I agree, it was a bummer to see Yuzu’s episode not have the same quality treatment, but I like to think that we are in for a better and more epic one in the future. Either way, Yuzu VS Masumi’s animation was not THAT bad as I have seen worse LOL.

What im mostly excited and wondering about is the reverse scale that will show in the next episode. Would this affect us to? Would we be able to use the reverse scale? Plus do we need new cards to do the reverse scale?

    1. Eva

I think we are all curious about that ahahahahaha!

Am I the only one who lost interest to MCS?? The first match ups were much better(especially Shun vs Sora).
Yuya is becoming more and more mature YAY:-) Lets just hope that he wont be like Yuma who was crying after every duel during the last arc of zexal.
    Okay,that purple girl….She can be
1)Ruri who is brainwashed and believes that…
1a)…She has always been a part of Academia
1b)…Xyz Dimension/Resistance/Shun has done something terrible to her and/or her family,so she is siding with academia for revenge.
    2) Fusion Yuzu
If you ask me, I think she is 1a)Hope to see Shun trying to snap her out of that.
The new version of opening was much better than the first one. Yugo’s dragon charging on you was like a 3d film, Yuri looked truly EVIL,and the last artworks were something.
Bishie yuya….Man,I think I shall see his face in my nightmares.
The name of the next episode is translated incorrectly. Monosubs named it <>,but V-Jump officially announced that the name of the episode 39 is <>.Now,just remember episode 7’s title…..
And a little fact that has nothing to do with this episode but sure will be interesting. Did you know that Yuto’s and Yugo’s voice actors are twin brothers???

    1. Eva

The joke is that the MCS is more or less irrelevant. It’s just an event where all the major characters are gathering and a ulterior plan to Reiji’s grand plan of recruiting the winner/top duelists.
Yes I heard about that a couple of weeks ago from another commenter! That’s pretty awesome, especially when Yuuto and Yuuya twins from across the realms. XD

  5. UnknowNOne

Sorry, my first time to post a comment,I was usually reading silently:-) So….
Monosubs named it Awakening of Reverse Scale ,but V-Jump officially announced that the name of the episode 39 is Awakaning of Inperial Wrath. Now,just remember episode 7’s title…..

    1. Eva

Thank you for bringing it up! I have edited out the mistranslation in order to prevent further confusion.
Since you have brought it up, I went around to double-check what others were translating it as, and it looks like there may be a lot of mistranslations/alternative wording going on with the title since I am seeing various different names for Episode 39 all over the place (such as: Awakening of the Gekirin). I can’t read Japanese so unfortunately I can’t verify for myself. ; v ;||| We will have to see what MonoSubs will go with next week (hopefully it will be corrected/resolved on time for next week’s episode).
Well we all know one thing for sure: It’s definitely not a new Summoning Technique LOL- and honestly that makes me feel better knowing that! Ahahahahaha!
