Yu-Gi-Oh ARC-V Ep 32 Img 0024A round of applause for such a fantastic, and exciting duel from Yuuya and Sawatari! I don’t think I recall ever quite experiencing such a fun and entertaining duel in a long time, one that isn’t so “OMG I HAVE TO WIN!!!!11 OR ELSE I WILL LOSE OUT ON LEARNING SOMETHING IMPORTANT/I WOn’T BE ABLE TO STOP THEM”. What made it such a great match was how Sawatari wasn’t so much of an ass during this episode but was more dorky and fun. As a viewer, seeing an opponent genuinely enjoying the duel and putting on a fierce show, makes it more fun to watch. The highlight of the duel for me though was how the two of them were determined to entertain the crowd, and boy did they deliver! It was truly an duel of entertainment. The crowd couldn’t decide who they wanted to win and best of all, it was really anyone’s match, but of course at the end of the day, it was Yuuya who won.
But Yuuya’s victory felt genuine (aside for the “lucky”/”plot-armor” draw of the Action Magic Card: Miracle- that he so happens to have been picking up quite frequently as of the late). Sawatari/Reiji’s strategy to shut him down forced him to rethink how to counter. He figured it out and found a way to counter by using Sawatari/Reiji’s strategy against him and ran around like a maniac to find the Action Cards to back him up. However had this not been an Action Duel, I wonder how Yuuya would have countered. It is something that will keep my curious for a long time, until we see a duel where Yuuya has no choice by to trust his deck and his abilities to counter when he is pushed into a corner. Until then, Yuuya will be known as the Escape Artist, which I find quite fitting given how he runs around dodging the attacks by snatching the Action Cards on the field. That should be his official slogan.
Unfortunately, there was no new evolutions or new ace monsters revealed in this episode- nor did I expect it to be. But after last week’s discussion in the comments, many of us are wondering whether or not Yuuya eventually will find/obtain alternative Ace Monsters to rely on. While Odd-Eyes is without a doubt his key Ace, there hasn’t been any signs of a back-ups or alternative aces. Up till now, every other protagonist at least had alternatives if they either didn’t have their main ace in their hands or they simply couldn’t summon them. It makes us wonder how long we will have to wait until Yuuya gets another Ace to depend on. But at the same time, there’s a voice in the back of my head telling me that perhaps it is still too early in the game. We probably won’t being seeing any new alternative aces until maybe closer to the end of the tournament or during Yuuya’s eventual rematch against Reiji. That being said, I do look forward to the moment when Yuuya is pushed into that corner, preferably with no action cards nor Odd-Eyes to rely on and reveal his new ace that will hopefully become a regular in his performances. Until then, we will probably have to live with Odd-Eyes’ further evolutions since there bound to be more revealed in the future.
There was a moment that amused me more than it probably it should (or rather it probably wasn’t supposed to be a joke at all). When I heard Reiji ordered his secretary to retrieve the Pendulum Monsters cards from Sawatari and prepare them for mass production, I couldn’t help but laugh just because of the timing. Sawatari’s Yosenju monsters will be featured in Secrets of Eternity booster pack coming out January 16, 2015 (Special Edition coming out February 27, 2015).  (I only know about this for an exchange because my drive to resume my Yu-Gi-Oh Cards collector has been revived.) Without a doubt I can see Sawatari picking up a copy of his own now that he can finally own it. Perhaps he can experiment around and figure out what he can do, without Reiji giving him instructions.
NEXT WEEK! The long awaited hyped up showdown is finally here! Shun VS Sora, SEE YOU NEXT WEEK!

Yeah, this duel was entertaining, even if I had mixed feelings on it.
On one hand, Sawatari wasn’t a total dick and tried to be an entertaining duelist for the us and the audience, and the acrobatics he pulled were fun to watch as well as LDS’s commentary XD.
Other thing I liked and wondered was if Yuya needed Rune-Eyes to summon Beast Eyes, but it seems that there’s no need for that, Rune Eyes and Beast Eyes are two alternatives for Odd-Eyes, so it seems more versatile.
The “Nameless” card is good for a lot of decks nowadays what with archetype focus, and his card that enables him to draw and be a win or lose situation didn’t bother me a lot, but I still wish that Yuya didn’t rely so much on Action Cards to save his ass. I would like it more if he used them as a complement to his strategy, like his duel with Shuzou in episode 14 or generic discard fodder like Masumi’s.
…Well, if he doesn’t use Rune Eyes + Beast Eyes as overlay units maybe there’s a slight chance of he getting an alternative Ace monster to overlay with Odd Eyes? I hope so, the only thing that disappointed me in this duel is that he was still relying on Odd Eyes again(one of the things that made me like Michio’s duel is that he used another ace to finish the duel in the form of Hammer Mammoth), I want to see a episode where Pendullum Summon is really sealed(like banish), so Yuya shows more strategy with his deck, heck, GX had a lot of bad episodes, but I can tell you that in the episode they sealed Judai’s Fusion(his biggest gimmick) he really relied on alternatives to counter that, so I don’t see why they can’t do the same for Yuya.
I hope he fight against a opponent that banishes monster and take Odd Eyes from the duel >__>, otherwise Yuya will be a Yuma 2.0 and only Spam Main Monster.
LOL, I wondered why you didn’t say anything last episode about the ending, but I’m glad you didn’t as the impact of the preview was bigger on you 8D
That’s what I meant when I said that Shun vs Sora would be a total blast! It’s funny how it can make everyone hyped even if you didn’t like Zexal as who don’t like a crossover/continuity?
By what I read from the Summaries, Sora will be the little asshole he is and tease Shun, and I cant wait to see his constipated expression as he sees a mockery of his homeland, plus Sora taking a jab on him and revealing something about him, a possibility for flashback(and maybe finally Ruri!) and Yuzu’s cheering on Sora.
… No really, I still want to see Yuzu cheering for Sora(specially when he uses Fusion) just to see his face, double points if he wrecks Sora and she call him out.
I don’t know why, but suffering Shun makes my day more interesting 8D*Sadist mode on*
I(like 99,99% of the fandom) really hope to see a Shun vs Yuzu on the future even if Yuzu loses, the match would be tense as hell! 8D

It appears that despite my tardiness of noticing that little detail, it allowed me to freak out even more than I might have had I noticed last week (Or maybe it would be the same, though I’m not sure if I would have made the heartland connection with the stage since it (to me) MIGHT be a replicate of the city)!
Oooh yeah, Shun VS Yuzu is an angsty intense fight I want to see. And you are right, we wouldn’t be upset as as much if she were to lose against him because the match-up itself is just too epic to pass.
I want to see it, I want to see Shun wreck havaoc AHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! Oh man, given that his monsters actually deal REAL LIFE DAMAGE rather than “solid vision” Sora gonna have to brace himself. XD I don’t think he would go as far as inflicting damage to the crowd like Aki did during her rounds in the first tournament, but nevertheless if he does- well we know that the crowd is going to turn against him.
//I don’t know why, but suffering Shun makes my day more interesting 8D*Sadist mode on*//
I’m with you there. BRING ON THE ANGST!!!!! 8D /SLAPPED

The good thing about Yuzu’s duels is that she can carry it on her own because:
1-Being a female character in YGO meant you barely gets on-screen duels so Yuzu having a lot of on-screen duels and breaking this pattern will be the glory!
2-YGO girls have a poor win ratio, so winning on-screen duels will be always be welcomed.
3-She has a balanced and believable deck, so we don’t feel like her every move is an asspull, besides having a intereting style and the potential to be anti-meta.
4-Differently from Past Female characters she has a ton of interactions with others characters besides the protagonist, so she can have a lot of emotional and intense duels like Yuzu vs Sora as a pupil vs disciple, Gongenzaka vs Yuzu because they are friends, Shun vs Yuzu bevause she’s his sister doppel, Yuya vs Yuzu because skill vs luck, Mieru vs Yuzu because we can dish more foreshadowing… Fuck, I will be hyped for all Yuzu’s duel(and Gongenzaka’s duel to a lessen extent)
…Sorry if if I’m talking non-stop about Yuzu, it’s the first time I like a female character so much in a YGO franchise and seeing how popular she is makes very happy XD.

Just a nitpick on the yugioh anime in general (that goes with the “new boss cards” issue) but the characters get specific cards way too frequently. Yuuya has got odd-eyes and two usable pendulum scales basically every duel, and he only has one copy of each, in addition to NEVER using odd-eye’s effect to search a pendulum. I wish my decks could magically be that consistent. (Itscalledstackingthedecktho)
    (Andstackingischeating)
Also he gets and uses far too many action cards IMO.
I’m slightly confused what’s so great about Heartland. References to the other series are nice, but I don’t know why that would “hurt”.
I agree that it was nice to see both Yuuya and his opponent enjoying a duel for once.

While Action Cards are a huge new factor for Action Dueling, I absolutely agree: Yuuya has shown to rely on them too much. I eagerly await to see how well he will fare when he has no Action Cards to bail him out when he finds himself cornered. However I get the feeling we will have to put up with it until the tournament is over as Action Cards can only be used on Solid-Vision stages.
//I’m slightly confused what’s so great about Heartland. References to the other series are nice, but I don’t know why that would “hurt”.//
Well it appears that Heartland is most likely Yuuto’s and Shun’s home. If the stage is a replicate of the city, imagine what it would be like for Shun to see his beloved dazzling city that had at some point turned into ruins (though it could be an parallel world sort of thing going on where they grew up in the ruins, but that is yet to be confirmed).

      1. ILIEKCHEESESTEAK

I forgot Shun was from some version of Heartland or another. That will be interesting to watch…
Yuuya would totally lose without action cards because his deck is terrible. Oh wait, he’s the main character, so he automatically has a chance, especially since he’s going to get two usable scales and odd-eyes. Also, this is the show and almost every character has decks that would be terribad IRL.

        1. Eva

Perhaps (if the production team is smart about it), Yuuya relying on Action Cards is a deliberate choice to create that flaw for his character. As result of that flaw, once he is forced to duel off stage, if he will be significantly weaker (allowing him to lose when the time comes to debut his next personal conflict for the story) and it will provide him the opportunity for stronger character development/growth. Or that is what I would like to see. But with the records of the past series, I wouldn’t exactly hold my breath for it. ^^;/ It would be a nice change though, and I hope that Yuuya’s plot-armor won’t take the wheel too often.
