Our Dazzling Diva, Queen Yuzu hits the stage!

YUZU! YUZU! YUZU! Whoops Sorry! Couldn’t help myself!

YGO ARC V Ep 69 Img 0029The writers did a fabulous job with this episode! Although I am not a huge fan of the action cards, I immensely enjoyed how they were used by both, Yuzu and Chojiro.

Who needs security when you got Yuzu and Chojiro putting on an epic Entertainment Duel!? Starting off with a crowd still chanting Shinji’s name, Chojiro and Yuzu quickly bewitched the audience with their epic and dazzling Entertainment Duel! And boy, what a show they put on!
Yuzu was absolutely fantastic. She was dazzling, badass, and most importantly, inspiring. Without a doubt, hands down this is my favourite Yuzu duel to date. I loved seeing her progress from her anxiousness of riding a D-Wheel at the start to fully embracing it. She fearlessly performed all kinds of wicked moves, making it simply mesmerizing to watch.

YGO ARC V Ep 69 Img 0009What made this duel so exciting was how they had chosen to set it up. Although we all knew deep in our hearts that Yuzu was most likely going to win, the writers were still able to create many nail-biting moments where they would make you second guess her chance at victory. With Chojiro pulling all the cards he needed, following suite by snagging some action cards to counter Yuzu’s action cards, and finally the writers providing him a monster, Gokou, whose’ effect was to negate effects and spell cards (including action cards) provided the necessary ingredients to prevent this match-up from being simply predictable, and it paid off. On top of that, I greatly appreciate how they were sure to drop hints several times throughout the episode of the monster (Score the Melodious Diva) who would lead Yuzu to victory. Honestly at first I wasn’t certain whether or not she was ever going to use it, but I am glad they did. By doing so, they made it feel like it wasn’t another one of those ass-pulls. The key to achieve that, was to constantly show us (as if they were EMPHASIZING) how the character already had it in their hands from the get go. Better yet, we were able to witness the action cards being in a different way. In order to summon Score the Melodious Diva, she needed a pair of duplicates Spell Cards to banish into her graveyard and activate their effect.

YGO ARC V Ep 69 Img 0022Although Chojiro’s previous Enjoy! duel with Yuuya was not fun for me to watch, this time I was thoroughly entertained by his character. Rather than screaming “enjoy” every two seconds, he was constantly apologizing to Yuzu because he felt bad how he would be sending her, a beautiful girl to the supposedly labor camp, since he had no intention of throwing the game. And honestly, I found it freaking hilarious. The combination of his genuine apologizes and Yuzu’s reaction to it every time was priceless. This episode made me appreciate Chojiro a lot more than I have before not only because of his great spirit throughout the duel, but even afterwards when he lost. He provided a touching speech to the crowd, making it a memorable exit. Furthermore, I was greatly amused by how he asked Yuzu if she was Yuuya’s special someone. HAHAHAHA! Chojiro is pretty sharp guy, and based on how Yuuya has been searching for Yuzu like a manic, I can’t blame him since Yuuya is making it difficult to think otherwise.

And of course, Yuuya. I was very happy to see he was able to have some reassurance about Yuzu’s well being. His tears tell you how much he misses her. Her feelings reached him, and it is great how she knows he is there too.

Next week, Selena is up next! And she is up against… a nobody. It would be weird for her to lose here against a fodder character so I would assume she is safe to move to the next round. But since it isn’t going to be an important duel, it sounds like her match-up won’t be the primary focus. She is in the closing match so if anything, it may be short and sweet and they will jump straight into the post-Day 1 stuff as it appears Reiji and Reira will be dining with Jack Altas. Personally, I would find it weird if they had the right to do so… but whatever. Just watch though, if Reiji goes on about Academia invasion and his plans of looking for more allies, watch Jack tell him, “Not my problem” (or so that’s what I am predicting he would say).

Obligated Queen Yuzu To Close off the Post!

Yuzu is such a quick thinker and is incredibly adaptable! <3

    KOI, KOI-KOI-KOI *KOI!!!!!*
Loved Chojiro a ton this week, and combined with Yuzu made this one of my favorite duels of the series straight off the bat- Yuya vs Sawatari is still a /teeeeny/ bit better , but this week was pretty awesome.
But hey, even if Selena’s got a filler face-off at least we’ll get to see some oldie-but-goodie cards like Bottomless Trap Hole. And maybe we’ll get more Insight (coughGATCHAMAAAANcough) into Reira’s Yandere Complex.

AHahaha, oh God- you’re making me scared with the idea of Reira’s Yandere Complex. D:>

Soundtrack was top notch this episode as well as the characters.
I love Yuzu and Enjoy, I find them pretty entertaining, and seeing Queen Yuzu so determined and confident made me all giddy haha, I also noticed how they focused on her hand so when I saw Score I knew it would be important XD.
About the Action Cards, It didn’t annoy me because there was a back and forth with Choujiro using them to counter Yuzu’s action cards as well as having an ace that totally nullfill it( Yuzu meets a lot of opponents that block her action use lmao, maybe she’s getting meta savvy pff) and Yuzu using a card to make use of the system instead of relying on blind luck in the form of Score. It reminded me of Tsukikage’s Hazy Shuriken and Masumi’s brillant spark, I felt that it was a smart and strategic way make use of it and considering how Action Cards work, if she had Shopina(which sends A Light Fairy monster from the Graveyard to hand) she effectively would make her Graveyard a second hand.
I like Choujiro’s Hammy way to pronounce his cards,I dunno why, but I like how He Goes CARDIAN! when in “Koi koi koi mode” and Gokou summoning sequence was cool with that many colorful artworks filling the screen and revealing a monster with cool design, other thing that I like about him is that his luck in getting the needed cards are pretty much part of his strategy, something normal, so it never feels like an asspull to me XD
My shipper heart almost exploded with how cute and touching Yuya’s and Yuzu’s bonds were showcased here, what hit my feels was when Yuzu used Yuya’s catchphrase and then followed by Shuzo’s and even Futoshi’s to remind Yuya that he isn’t alone( Oh God I’m so fucking corny, “You’re not alone” scenes always melt me) and that not only her, but everyone in Standard supports him. That was beautiful, Yuzu herself wanting to cheer and Support Yuya was already touching, but for her to include other people as Yuya’s strenght was a nice surprise too, my feels T7T.
This episode was wonderful, I watched it tons of times because I enjoyed(oh God this world is Egao 2.0) it so much! Tokumatsu is indeed a nice addition to the cast, I like him a lot.
Oh, and to finish my comment on a higher note(get it? Note, music pun*shot*) they revealed Solo(one of the cards Yuzu used in this episode) in Breaker of Shadows and she received a loltastic buff, now it not only can SS herself like Cyber Dragon, but it’s also a battle searcher that can bring ANY melodious besides herself from the deck, which means Elegy, Mozart or Shopina can be brought easily on the field lmao, I think Konami likes Queen Yuzu too because the buffs they give to her cards are something else, I wonder what are they going to do with Score XD.

I believe we can all agree it would be best to see the characters utilize the Action Cards strategically to work in their favor when they can’t be used in battle, as oppose to desperately relying on them to get them out of a pinch situation. It was a brilliant way for them to highlight it this week thanks to Gokou’s effect and I hope to see the characters all learn to do this as the series goes on, as I can now see it being a valuable asset strategic-wise in their big fight.
//…other thing that I like about him is that his luck in getting the needed cards are pretty much part of his strategy, something normal, so it never feels like an asspull to me XD//
I echo your thoughts! It was truly a great match-up and a well written one too!
Ahaha I CANNOT WAIT to get the rest of her cards. <3 <3 <3

Yuzu! Yuzu! Yuzu! One of the best Yuzu duels thus far. I especially liked the part where Yuzu rode the overpass thing.

    1. Eva

<3 Our queen is such a badass!

  5. Becs

Yuzu is awesome!! I love how she can be all kickass and still look pretty. Usually female duelists have to be one or the other, their cards have to be pretty and weak essentially or be a major tomboy deck. This is one of the few female characters that have shown this perfect balance! Selena was pretty badass but she has this more rogueish beauty unlike Yuzu who is comparatively more feminine. Which is what i want to see! I love it when females can be badass but still feminine!! Yuzu the Queen! <3
I'm kind of looking forward to Selena next episode because she is so badass! She is one of my favourite characters. From the first episode she was on screen she's always doing SOMETHING!! I love how active and confident she is, even if her brashness and impulsiveness are not really desireable traits i'm glad she has them because normally they're given to the male characters and the females are docile so it's a welcome change.

    1. Eva

Absolutely agree! I hope the writers will continue to do this till the very end because both Yuzu and Selena are receiving wonderful treatment. I look forward to seeing both Rin and Ruri in action in the future to see what their roles will be bringing to the table! 🙂

Well dang, I thought you were taking a break from writing this season. I come back and I have all these posts to catch up on xp. I have to say, while I was originally ticked about the massive usage of action cards this episode (along with Shinji’s duel), at the very least the frustration was alleviated when you made a valid point; Yuzu had Score in her hand for a while. It would have been completely different if she drew that on her final turn, as it would be deus ex up the wazoo. But being that she had it, it was only a matter of time before she used it. I can only guess how they’ll change score’s effect….because Melodious decks honestly don’t run 2 of the same spell (or at least the chances of that happening) that’ll end up in the graveyard except Solo and MST. But shesh, its almost like when they make Yuzu’s cards real they forget about Aria’s non-targetting and battle immunity effect (Illusion, Canon, and now the revealed Solo -_-…..has to be destroyed by battle to special summon a melodious from the deck)
Though I guess people will be using action cards more in the riding duels because the cards are just spread out throughout the track. So they’re easily accessible, compared to normal duels where they’re scattered in random places that require searching (like Shun riding his XYZ monster to get an action card far off on one of the buildings). We need Selena vs Yuzu because I want to have a reason to summon Schuberta again! (Bloom Diva is surrrre getting a lot of duel time.)

I was only a semi-hiatus: meaning I continue my coverage on any on-going shows, but not participate in picking up any of the new shows in the following season. 🙂 I did however have a health crisis, but it thanks to the subs having faced some delays I didn’t fall too behind! :3
I am sure we will have Selena VS Yuzu coming soon in the future, even more so now that Jean has a reason to compete them specifically against each other. Although I am excited for it, I think i will still end up cheering more for Yuzu despite the fact how much I adore Selena as well! It will be a fantastic one regardless!
