I FREAKING KNEW LISA COULD NOT BE TRUSTED. THIS IS WHY I DIDN’T TRUST HER. SHE HATES HUMANS, SHE SAYS HAVING LEGS IS HIDEOUS—- Oh my god, she actually sent Kota to go out an straight up kill Mari and her whole family! Like what the fuck?! I knew she had the potential to be a villain, but GOD DAMN, Lisa’s batshit crazy! She needs to shit her ass down and do some self-reflection. She’s no better than Grace, if not worse at this point.
But thanks to Lisa’s appalling actions, we saw the fish dagger activate in an unexpected way. If Lara feels like something she cares about is being threatened, that thing will go after it. Although we see it activated in order to protect, I still fear that this is a double-edge sword. Should Lara become disillusioned, betrayed or get badly hurt, or god forbid hatred taking root in her, that thing would turn into a deadly weapon against those individuals.
While the fish dagger cannot be seen by a Human eye, the damage it left behind is perfectly visible. The bridge has been severely damaged, and all there appears to be left at the scene is the license plate of the vehicle Kota had been driving. Since we don’t see the remains of the car, I’m left to believe the fish actually swallowed it. It makes me wonder if there has been any other causalities involved in this incident considering the road was busy and apart from Kota, nobody else could actually see this thing. Worst case scenario, there’s victims that has been caught in the crossfire, it not, then that would be incredibly fortunate. Poor Kota though, not sure what has become of him. I don’t know if he got out, or he’s been consumed by it.
The other thing that caught my attention was the nature of this dagger. The way it opened it mouth and seemingly has chomped or swallowed Kota’s vehicle is actually similar to Lara’s notorious habit. So it could be, what was initially perceived innocent habit of chomping heads off may actually have been a significant clue pointing to the fact she’s the special princess. This fish dagger opening it’s mouth to chomp on it’s prey seems to be in sync with Lara’s habit, and it’d make sense given it was born from the light within her. Kind of scary to think what might’ve happened to the Prince since it pointed itself at him after Lara had turned into sea-foam. She loved him still, but if it really does have a mind of it’s own, it’ll take matters into it’s own hands. And we might’ve just seen exactly that play out, as Lara herself wasn’t looking to hurt let alone kill Kota, but instead focusing on getting home fast enough to ensure Mari and her family were safe. So this is definitely where things get dicey.
Grace definitely sensed this unfolding, and hopefully we can get some more perspective from her next week. She seems to be the one who understands the situation best at hand at the moment, and what’s at stake since she has warned Mari of this before. In-fact, it may be time now for her to explains things properly to Lara, unless she still feels it’d still be better for Lara to be blissfully ignorant of this threat. She might say something to Mari though.
Going back to Lisa, ohhhh boy. As if Lara’s commitment to finding ‘true love’ with a Human wasn’t bad enough for her, now she may have potentially lost Kota if he really didn’t get out of that alive. That’s only goes to increase the rift between the sisters further, and it scares me what other ways Lisa seeks to intervene and sabotage Lara’s efforts of finding that true love.
Apart from that shit-storm that has transpired in the last two minutes of the episode, Grandma finally pushed Lara to get a job. Mari also needed to get one since she wanted to buy a pair of new ear buds, so the two of them went job hunting together. The duality of their responses was comedic gold. The two of them got lucky when they were hired at a cake shop that had drawn Lara’s attention due to it’s “Castle-like” appearance. Lara said she’d be willing to die for cake (and they even posted that on her locker ahaha), meanwhile Mari said she wouldn’t die for it. In the end, Lara was assigned as the dishwasher, and Mari got the significantly less laborious task of working at the cash. (But doing the dishes is just about the only thing Lara can do at this point, she hardly understands money as it is!) Being responsible for cleaning the dishes wasn’t what Lara expected her job to be though, which is why she kept pestering to make cakes. As result, she ended up with an even more difficult job– which was helping the manager (Head Chef) produce a new product. That means doing the heavy lifting, peeling fruit over and over again— Lara didn’t ever expect the process of making a pastry to be this difficult– but then again, this is the pro’s way, not a casual baking session.
To Lara’s credit she did preserve and performed tirelessly well, but she did experience burn out and was deeply demoralized by how much time she had lost in her search for her true love. She had thought about quitting, but thankfully she changed her mind– and thank god for it, because even after all her blunders, the staff had accepted her at this point and were ready to throw a welcoming party.
And ultimately, her time working non-stop at the bakery wasn’t all in vain. While Lara was stuck working, she did get a number of things out of it. Learning more about Humans, experienced how a job could be both torturous and joyful, and the hard work it takes to produce something beautiful. Taking pictures with the film camera Mari’s father (Makoto) had given her helped her come to terms with that.
Best of all, something positive came out of her self-reflection of the time she has spent there. Since she was a child, Lara has always wanted to understand Humans, and this experience has taught her perhaps the enjoyment of seeing new sides of everyone and the growing curiosity is tied to the true love she’s looking for. And this is a big deal because Lara has been entirely fixated on this idea that “true love” means marrying a Human. Of course she’s still believes this, but it’s important that she has become more open-minded about it because it goes outside of the box o f what defines “true love”. In turn, when the time comes, it can help her identify and acknowledge that ‘true love’ when it all falls into place.
With all of that said, what started out as a fairly simple and straight-forward episode of a very Human experience of work, things are sure getting dicey now that the fish dagger has taken action for the first time. And since it left a visible scar to infrastructure, it means drawing unwanted attention as authorities will begin investigating this mysterious incident. Worst of all, anyone into the supernatural affairs will likely start sticking their nose into it, and for all we know, Merfolks lore may end up surfacing should someone possess the knowledge for it. It will be interesting to see what would happen should people start gossiping about that. Either way, something else is going to happen because in the first episode, we can hear the helicopters going nuts….
