Happy Summer everyone! This time I’m changing up the Preview’s template a bit. Just wanted to test out which presentation is easier on the eyes! For Summer, it’ll be just me picking up titles this season, but Shadow will be continuing Re:Zero’s coverage! There’s a lot of great shows to look forward to this season, so let’s get started!

The novel takes place in the summer of 1907, the 40th year of the Meiji era. 15-year-old Inako Momokawa lives in the Fushimi area of Kyoto, and is the second daughter of a sake brewer. Nothing she does ever comes out right, and she receives a scolding from her father every day. Her only relief is the trust she places in her prayers to the gods. One day while at Fushimi Inari shrine, she meets a freewheeling young man named Kihachi Sakamoto. He rejects the gods, and boasts of the incoming age of electricity.
The topic of marriage suddenly comes up in Inako’s household. Her father is one-sidedly making all the decisions for her, and Inako is about to give up hope. It is then that Kihachi draws out Inako’s true feelings of wanting to run away from her family. The only way to stop her marriage is to find an unusual book called the “Electricity Catalog.” The book is a prediction book about electricity that Kihachi wrote when he was a child, but his older brother Seiroku took the book, and its current whereabouts are unknown. Inako and Kihachi together go in search of the book across Kyoto and Shiga prefectures.

Eva: Sparks of Tomorrow has been a been longtime coming. It looks absolutely breathtaking and I’m quite into the story’s theme! Definitely one of the most anticipated shows I’m looking forward to potentially covering this season!

Eva: I’ve just finished watching the first season with Shadow, and I adored it! It’s so wholesome! This is the type of show I best enjoy simply watching as opposed to covering, so I won’t be picking it up. Definitely check-out Season 1 if you haven’t already!
Shadow: I AM SO READY FOR THIS NEXT SEASON. I loved the first season as it hit upon several things I look for in a romance series. It hits my specific type of humor, my AESTHETICS of the main ship, modern time-period and there isn’t any big drama that happens. I like lighter romances nowadays so this one just hit all the right buttons for me. I don’t think I’ll cover this show since I rather watch it without any constraints and just enjoy it for what it is~

One day, when Yuzu just couldn’t take things anymore, a man appears before her on a bridge. This man is the most beautiful man Yuzu has ever seen… and he’s calling her his wife?! “Just be quiet and let me hold you.” The most powerful, “cold-hearted” ayakashi is pouring his heart out for Yuzu?!

Eva: Yup, this is 100% ticks off all the boxes of the Cinderella Story trope we’ve been getting a lot of as of the late. Frankly, I’m getting bored of them– but this one is a special exception since a title I’ve had my eye on for a long time now. On top of that, I’ve been desperately looking for something to scratch that itch Kakuriyo no Yadomeshi S2 has left me with no thanks to with so many unresolved loose ends. It’s also worth mentioning it does feel very My Happy Marriage coded as well (which is yet another series that is absolutely Cinderella Story coded that I adore). So you can probably understand why I’m drawn to this one quite a bit. The vibes are a mix of my two favourite series! It is also very encouraging to know that the light novel is only five volume long, so there’s a good possibility the whole story can be adapted, which is all the more reason I say: SIGN ME UP!

Eva: Super excited to hop abroad this feels train! Since it’s only one volume long, I’d reckon it’s safe to assume they will adapt the whole thing, and better yet– have a lot of breathing room to do so! This has also been on my reading list, so I’m really excited to finally watch this!

Eva: When I saw this announced, my reaction was: HOLY SHIT. Never thought I’d see the day this gets adapted, much less in 2026! But this year has been a unique one already as so many titles I’ve read during high-school are getting adapted! Red River despite it’s flaws and all, is something I really enjoyed! I’ll definitely be watching, but with the current line-up for this season, this is not a top priority in terms of covering.

Shadow: This feels like another 50/50 show for me. There’s a chance it could end up really good and I’ll put it on my radar. But there’s also a chance this could turn out pretty mediocre. It looks cool, but I feel like I’ll have to wait and see what the consensus is before taking a look at it.

Eva: I’m into the premise, so I’m hoping it will be executed well. I think my only concern is that with these type of stories, is while the romance can be nice, the love interest ends up kinda too flat in order so the lead shines brighter. Hopefully that won’t be the case here, because it looks nice. If it proves to be good, then I’ll definitely be more interested in picking up the novel.

Eva: Honestly I’m not sure how I feel about this one yet. These type of stories are a real hit and miss for me. Something the tropes are too repetitive and it just bores me to sleep. But it’s done well, then it’s all good fun.
Shadow: I’m most likely not going to even watch the show since the animation and overall look of the show screams “average” to me. However, when I looked at the poster I was like: Huh, that looks like Tenn from Idolish7 lol. And then upon watching the trailer, proceeded to die laughing as soon as I hear Saito Soma voicing him. That alone isn’t enough to get me to watch, but at least that whole experience was hilarious lol.

Eva: Crunchyroll has had an earlier premiere of launching the first six episodes in advance of the TV-Broadcast. I’ve gone ahead and begun watching it, and I gotta say: I’m hooked. It’s not the type of show I’d blog, largely because it’s definitely a feel good, relaxing show to enjoy. Despite the fairly large age-gap, I absolutely love just how well these two click. I got impatient to wait for the remaining episodes and began reading the manga as well, hahaha! Worth a whirl if you’re looking for a mellow show to enjoy! watch!

Eva: I’m in such a pickle this season aren’t I? I’m so excited to continue watching this show, but I’m on the fence on whether I want or should continue covering it. I did find it a bit challenging at times to blog the first cour, and now I have a load of shows I’m very also very excited for, so it’s so tricky to decide whether or not I should continue the coverage or not. I’m going to have to think about it and sort out my priorities. I’ll decide on the day of the premiere because damnit, the PV is making me remember my favourite scenes and it’s making me all nostalgic again!

Eva: Okay, I’m ABSOLUTELY watching this! I’m obsessed with Kaleido Star, it’s one of my all-time favourite series ever because it’s heavily inspired by Cirque du Soleil (look it up if you never heard of it). And this story revolving around a circus (unclear whether it’ll be similarly focusing more on the acrobats like Kaleido Star/Cirque du Soleil, or they will be tapping into the more traditional image of a ‘Circus’. Either way, this is going to be so hard for me to pass up on. It doesn’t matter if it’s just girls doing cute things, I love this shit and I’m so freaking excited. On the final note: The opening scene for the first PV is just amazing. Love it!

Eva: I love that this is a spoof on Cinderella’s Story, which is a great twist when so many other series are faithfully embracing the trope. For that reason alone, I plan to watch it and hope it’s as fun and adorable as it suggests it’ll be!

Shadow: This feels like the type of anime I would not watch on my own. I’d need someone to watch it with lol.

Overall Thoughts 🌻
Eva: If I had to sum up my thought to this Summer Season in one word, it might catch you off guard to know what kept crossing my mind was none other than: CRAP!
And it’s not because of a lousy lineup! Far from it! It’s because I’m so royally screwed when it comes down to have to choose what I’m going to cover this season. There’s sooooo many shows I want to pick up, and if you’ve noticed… the vast majority of the ones I want to cover the most, all air on freaking back-to-back-to-back, or worse ON THE SAME DAY! HOW AM I SUPPOSED TO PICK ONLY 2 OR 3 TITLES LIKE THIS?! I should just be glad nothing from Spring is carrying over… Boy, that would’ve made this situation a lot worse…
Sparks of Tomorrow, The Ogre’s Bride, Love Unseen Beneath the Clear Night Sky, Though I Am an Inept Villainess, GROW UP SHOW -Sunflower Circus-, Jaadugar: A Witch in Mongolia, Goodbye Lara, Hana-Kimi S2… All of these are the titles I’m most excited for… And that’s not even the whole list because I left out the lower priorities…
It will come down to which ones make me the most enthusiastic to write a first impression about. Bearing that in mind, since there are so many I’m interested in this season, this may be a case where first impressions could be trickled out over a course of the first two or three weeks. (Meaning some may come out later than others if I decide I prefer one show over the other). This way I’m able to narrow down which ones I’m most invested in without doing them all at once.
It’s a tough position to be in, but it’s a welcomed one! Man 2026 been on a roll for hits and it’s forcing me to make difficult choices! So many shows brimmed with great potential this season! Even if I don’t watch them all right away, there will be plenty to binge later on!
Shadow: This season feels like not really my cup of tea since there isn’t much that caught my interest aside from the second season of Polar Opposites. After watching the second season of Frieren, I feel like I might not be the audience for fantasy shows anymore which probably explains why I’m not really interested in what this season is showing. I’m just an action junkie lol. I still am covering the 4th season of ReZero so I suppose at least that will keep me busy even though it’s going on a couple month break. Who knows, maybe if Black Torch is interesting enough to blog about.
