So it turns out it’s not just Kit who has stopped showing up to school, but also Peter… yikes. I wonder if this means that was actually the last we’d ever see of him.
Lili has been feeling terribly guilty for slapping Kit in the face, because she knows she shouldn’t have done that. But at the same time, she understands why his words triggered her, because it felt like his words were being directed to her instead of Peter. As far as she’s concerned, she’s the only one who seems to have everything at stake if she fails to get first place.
Shin at the very least was successfully able to cheer her up. He knows exactly what Lili likes the most, and that’s animals. It helped bring back the sparkle in her eyes and reignite the artistic muse that had been dampened by the fight at the pub. The two of them had an important conversation, where Shin revealed that Kit taught him to put his wants first, which is his earnest desire to continue his studies in Italy after her graduates from Saint Thomas Academy. It means ignoring want his family wants, which is continuing the family business, but it’s clear that Shin has solidified his resolved.
Interestingly it’s because Kit has helped him find clarity, that it was Shin who came to Kit’s defence this week. He made the point that Kit wasn’t trying to insult anyone, but rather remind them, “Don’t sacrifice what you love for the praise of other”. Kit saw them losing sight as to why they loved art in the first place, but due to his poor choice of words, it became something easily misunderstood– especially when emotions were already volatile. But at the same time, I think some would still feel frustrated and upset to be told that. This kind of issue isn’t really a simple one, it’s complicated, messy, something that varies on the individual’s circumstances.
And then we have Catherine who returned into the picture sooner than I thought she would. I honestly didn’t think she was going to drag Lili at no notice all the way to her estate— which by the way, takes THREE HOURS TO GET THERE! And of course everyone forgets that also means three hours back to London, making that trip a whooping 6 hours drive! WHEN WILL LILI GET A GOOD NIGHT SLEEP?!
That being said, I’ve definitely grown to love the friendship that has blossomed between Catherine and Lili. They couldn’t have had a more awful start, but I’m glad that Catherine was able to sort out her feelings and actually gain back something she thought she had lost all long. It became quite apparent early on when Catherine had called Lili over on short notice, complaining about her being late is really a sign of her missing her. Her true feelings finally came out when she opened up to Lili about how it was thanks to her, that she remembered she did have something she loved all long, and that’s dresses. It’s her greatest passion, and she’s overflowing with knowledge of the fabrics, the way they are designed and the beauty of it all. I couldn’t help but think the entire time how excited she’d be if she knew Lili’s family ran a kimono business— and sure enough, Lili did in-fact plan to gift her a Kimono because she knew she’d love it. And naturally, Catherine was over the moon about it. So much so, she wants to hire Lili for an official commission, to do another portrait of her, this time wearing the kimono she had gifted her. (Also this was definitely a shared brain-cell moment since both of them had decided to gift each other an outfit at the same time!)
But of course comes along Richard. I was wonder why in the world this guy would show up this late into the night, but I’m even more suspicious and flabbergasted as to why he’s suddenly rushing to push the marriage between Kit and Catherine as soon as the upcoming weekend— like what the hell dude?! This comes at a terrible timing considering Catherine has just come to terms that she doesn’t want to get married to Kit, especially since it’s clear as day that they’ll never see eye-to-eye, and he’ll never love her the way she wants to be. And most importantly, she wants to be able to make her own choices, and it pisses her off that she’s being told that she can’t.
Now that Richard is putting this freaking arrangement forward, it’s going to be up to Catherine to see how to prevent this from happening, if she can that is. Also her parents are in freaking Switzerland at the moment, and he wants the marriage to happen this weekend? There gotta be something else going on. Whether he has his own reasons for pushing Kit and Catherine together to secure their families ties, or he’s rushing because Henry is on his death bed or something. We did hear he’s supposed to be unwell, which is why he retired from diplomatic duties in the first place. Though honestly it did cross my mind that perhaps one of the reasons why Richard’s pushing Kit so hard is because he’s actually sick too– but I’m more skeptical of that theory…
