I’m not gonna lie. I’m kind of surprised that we’re actually seeing Kit come to terms that he’s probably in love with Lili this soon. While he’s been mulling about her the whole time in the last episode, but I wasn’t expecting him to be this direct about it right off the bat. We have to thank Catherine for that though, as she was the one who just helped him connect the dots. It’s the part of him that makes him rather tactless at times. Though in hindsight, maybe I should’ve expected it, because he has always been a straight-shooter when it comes to saying whatever running through his head!
But man. Talk about bad timing when to to affirm such feelings. Unfortunately it all just spilled out when Catherine was lashing out at him because (in her case), she’s been justifiably frustrated about how he’s been neglecting her as her fiance, and how hard and humiliating it is for her to see him be with another woman. When she puts it that way, yeah we can understand why she’s so jealous and pissed off at both Kit and Lili.
However there’s also another part of Catherine that frustrates her. She has realized she has been moulded in a way to have no hobbies or interest for herself. She was raised with the expectations to be a perfect wife in high society. Her dream as a child, after being engaged to Kit was to one day wear that gorgeous Silver Lily dress that’s been passed down the Church family for generations, only to later see Lili be the one to wear it before her.
So when Lili asks her what are her passions, what makes her happy and so on forth, Catherine couldn’t think of anything. She struggles to relate to Kit and Lili being able to completely engross themselves in the arts. Having something like that is completely foreign to her and she doesn’t even know where to begin to start. She tries to convince herself she’s fine, but in reality, she’s really not and everyone can see that plain as day. That’s why Lili really wanted to make her portrait feel more lively and cheerful, but it ended up disturbing Catherine instead because she knows she hasn’t smiled once. It was why she had initially wanted to dispose the painting, because it kept reminding her despite what she says, she’s not really happy with her life.
And to her credit, after she had initially intended to make things difficult for Lili, Catherine (belatedly) realized she shouldn’t have allowed her maid to attempt to dispose the portrait. I’m glad that she at least ran out after her to stop her, but that’s also where things got ugly. But it probably would’ve been a lot worse had Kit not been there to stop the maid from tossing the portrait into the river. If she had, ohhhh boy... that would’ve been a lot worse for everyone involved.
Instead, since Kit was there, he was able to save the painting— or at least I hope it remains the case since he had ran off to chase after Lili. He did give Catherine a stark warning, to dispose an art piece is the same as killing the artist, so it’s unlikely that the maid will now follow through with tossing it despite him not being there anymore. But now we have an entirely different awkward situation, one that Lili absolutely wants no part of– which is why she ran away the moment she overheard Kit admit that he’s probably in love with her.
And I mean, it’s an understatement to say Lili really has enough on her plate as it is. Even though she got a generous cheque from Catherine, the girl is still overworking herself to the bone as she needs to finish the translation job for Professor Brant, go to school, work on her Critique piece, and then hurry off to Catherine’s place to work on the portrait. Lili hardly getting enough hours to sleep and now on top of all of that, she finds herself getting unwillingly dragged into a messy love affair between Kit and Catherine. Give the girl a break!!!!!! Running from this is only natural at this point. Usually I’d be happy to see the love interest pursue the other, but in these circumstances, it probably would’ve been better if Kit had not ran after Lili at all. She desperately needs space, she does not have the mental capacity to deal with this right now
With this whole shitstorm of aristocratic affairs, I can see why Shin of all people would be appealing to some people as a more viable love interest for Lili. Right now he seems to have the least problem for the two of them to deal with, making him certainly more appealing that Kit to say the least. Not that particularly ship him and Lili, this is merely an observation on my part. Needless to say, it was nice to see Shin invite Lili over for supper, where she could not only finally eat after having to severely cut back on her meals because of costs, but also having a taste of home again. A very thoughtful gesture to say the least.
Quick update on my backlogged posts!
- Hana-Kimi will be released as a triple post (Ep 7 – 9) on Sunday!
- Ep 7 & 8 portions of the post have written up, but I decided it’d be best just to release this as a triple post.
- Journal with Witch Episode *7 entry is about 60% done, I’m hoping to have it done by Saturday, if not Sunday. If I’m still not feeling well by then, Episode 8 may will be released late as result as I don’t intend to make a double-post. There’s so much to unpack in episode 7 that I really want to make sure I got everything covered properly.
- (Note: I just realized I put 8 instead of 7 in past notices 🫠)
- Star Detective Precure will be the last priority at the moment. Ep 2 portion been written up, but not ep 3 because I haven’t watched it yet (and will not until I’m in condition to write). This post will not be out until all of the above are done first.
Hopefully I can get over this bug soon! Thanks for your patience and understanding! 😷
