Wow it ended just like that… I’m not used to these type of endings in this genre.
Oh my heart. I have been swept away by the sea of emotions. The ending was a bittersweet one. What I appreciated the most about it was how they didn’t sugarcoat anything and were considerably realistic. Having completed their purpose, the dress-up keys goes into hibernation to recharge and prepare for the next battle in the future. This meant the girls had to return their keys as they belonged in the Hope Kingdom. It broke my heart when they revealed they will no longer be able to travel between worlds, because the two worlds were never connected in the first place- in fact I was pretty upset about it. But being worlds apart was just one part of it. In order to pursue their dreams, most of the group had parted ways in the spring. Kirara is off to Paris to pursue her dream to become a Top Model, Minami travels to where her marine biologist friend is to study alongside her, Towa and Kanata reunites with their parents and return their duties. Haruka and Yui are the only two who probably managed to stay together till they graduated from Noble Academy. Yui has successfully published her picture-book of the story of the Princess Precures, staying true to every detail- making a little girl sad for the same reasons we have. Haruka had decided she will become her own princess, though it is a vague when it comes to career paths, we know she had successfully done so. (I would presume she would specialize something in the flower/garden business due to her passion of flowers).
If you asked me which farewell was the saddest, I would have to tell you it was every, single, one of them. My eyes were all watery when Towa broke down saying goodbye to her friends, knowing she might not be able to see them again or for a very long time. The same applies to Haruka saying goodbye to Kanata. She put on a strong face, telling him the same thing she had told the girls, as long as their hearts as connected, they will surely see each other again. (THEY BETTER!!!! OTHERWISE THAT WOULD BE JUST TOO CRUEL!). One of the cuter moments of the episode was probably seeing Shut and Cloth being true to themselves and I guess might actually get a job if they haven’t already to work at Noble Academy’s secret garden.
I cannot tell you how delighted I was to see, from the get go, the fight wasn’t over yet. I absolutely loved how we saw another form, this time Dyspear and Close merged into one (which I guess you could say had a bit of romantic underlining there, at least that what I had sensed). Once more Toei Animation experimented further with how else could they raise their bar when it comes to animating fights, making this one more detailed and combat focused compared to the last fight where the girls couldn’t do much until they received their power up.
I found it both important and refreshing how in this story, the conclusion to this battle is not wiping out the other, but acknowledging and accepting both Despair and Dreams can and will always exist. Haruka approached Clospear with intentions to simply talk it out, and find a way to end this eternal battle. While doing so, as she tries to understand despair, what creates it and how can she make it stop? But then she realizes, despair will never disappear. Happy things and sad things come in cycles, it is the way of life, and it is what can make people stronger. When she tells him she acknowledges both will exist for all eternity, he agree with her and comes to the conclusion there is no point of fighting each other anymore. This is part is huge because for once, this isn’t about the villain undergoing redemption or being eliminated, it is about acceptance and acknowledge they can in fact co-exist. Sure the conclusion is fairly underwhelming, but it makes sense. Furthermore, we see the girls experience grief of parting ways, and how it is okay to feel that way, as long as you can get back onto your feet!
As the story comes to a close, the epilogue jumps into the future, showing us the girls grown up and continue to follow their dreams. Haruka has grown up into a beautiful woman, reminiscent of her appearance as Cure Flora. We see them all holding a clear dress-up key, born from their hearts. It is left to the viewer’s interpretation of whether or not the keys can be used to bring them back together again- I know I would like to think that. I think the writers had also left it up to interpretation of the final scene where Haruka stands on the hill and looks back and smiles, perhaps reuniting Kanata once more. (You know if they had put him in, it would have killed me). Endings where the viewers can create their own interpretation can be fun sometimes!
Final Thoughts
Go! Princess Precure is now the second precure series I have done a full coverage on. Without its strong story that resonated with the viewers (both young and old), and the charming characters whom most of us can relate to, I don’t think I would have been able to write an entry every week. What I loved the most about Go! Princess Precure was the life lessons about Dreams it had provided and how it was able to connected with the audience on a personal level. Multiple times, their messages had resonated with me, and it was something I greatly cherished that because for the past few years, despair was getting the better of me and was eating me up inside. This series addressed the key components and struggles we all undergo while pursuing our dreams. It served as a major eye-opener for those who lost sight of their dreams, forgot what motivated them and/or why they wanted to pursue it. Most of the time, the answer are right under our nose, but the problem is, many of us forget about it without even realizing it. There are all sorts of reasons responsible for causing us to forget. It could being too preoccupied with work/studies, overwhelming stress, self-doubt, depression, tragedies, sickness, the list goes on… And when we forget these things (often the simplest things), the hardest part is trying to remember them. Some can recall what it was faster than others, but that doesn’t necessarily apply to everyone. It can take days, months, sometimes even years. This is the reason why this series struck a chord in me. I strongly advise anyone who is experiencing this kind of struggle to watch Go! Princess Precure. I can’t guarantee it will help you, but I can at least tell you, it did for me with a struggle I had been experiencing for years. I found my answer in Episode 39, so thank you Go! Princess Precure, for helping me remember my dream and the reason of drive which fueled it. <3
Overall Score: 9/10
Story/Plot: 9/10 – A strong story with a powerful message resonating with the audience.
Characters & Development: 9/10 – Relateable and charming characters, each one of them experienced thorough character development.
Animation Quality: 9/10 – They were pretty darn consistent with the animation quality with this series. It is also worth appreciating how much details they have put into creating more dynamic animation in their fights.
Original Soundtrack: 8/10 – Worth noting the ED Theme songs were really good, but the overall soundtrack was a bit bland to me.
Recommendation: HIGH -Thoroughly enjoyable series from start to finish, and is strongly recommended for anyone who is struggling with their own dreams. It may provide the clarity you need.
Extra Note: I will try to get my cousin’s kids to watch it once they are old enough though, ha ha ha.
Goodbye Go! Princess Precure, you was a fun and special series to cover, you will be missed.
It is now time to pass the baton to Mahou Tsukai Precure, so I will see you all next week!
The finale was super duper tearjerking and amazingly memorable, I mean some things have been in that including the emotional reunion of the Hope Kingdom’s royal family (and Kanata’s got manly tears, aw!), that freaking last tea hangout with Towachi, Puff and Aroma plus Kirara is surely going to push her amazing dream of being a supermodel in France afterwards and that one last convey between Haru-Haru and Kanata… KIIIIII!!!! I really hate to let these two separate from each other but yeah, I guess this is a goodbye… For now. :'(
For the heck fighting convey between Grand Princess Flora and Super Close Ver. 2.0 (because of the merging with Dyspear’s spirit), it quite reminded me much of the second-to-finale episode of Suite with Noise except the purifying stuff though. Yet to me it was like a fight between resilience (Flora) vs revenge (Close) and I like how what our blooming Cure leader has said that dreams and despair are two different things in the same coin, which is, all over again, super duper ultra mega very true. All of us, regardless of social status, nationality, religion etc, may be accepted the fact that there’s always darkness in this beautiful yet cruel planet so we can’t completely destroy its embodiment all by ourselves. But through learning the things we acquired, determination, hard work, advises and consults from family and friends and more importantly, the divine intersection and intervention, we can overcome the tough challenges faced with our own feet so that we won’t ever let fall into the brink of darkness ever again to the next generation. I must add, the various sins committed by our ancestors in the past centuries should be corrected by creating new ways and amends that only us, the human beings of the contemporary era, can do in order to attain harmony and unity among ourselves.
BONUS: Shut and Lock were at least looked forward and moved on from their past evil deeds now. Aw, that scene when Lock was compared the roses that Shut saw to Scarlet.
Love that years-after scene of the four Princess Cures: Towachi the HK’s Grand Queen, Kirara the accomplished international supermodel, Minamin the cool marine vet and Haru-Haru the confidently beautiful real princess with a heart; plus (again) for the very first time in the Cure series history, we’ve been witnessed an Earthling Cure helper having a years-after moment as well. D’oh, I loved Yui-Yui’s picture book! I’m so very, very proud of her so much. *sniffs* I know it’s taking place in the future but… Aw man! Why can’t I hold all of those feels?!!
And to honor our cool royal heroes, I decided to change their lines in the one last hand-holding part into the ever-famous line from The Three Musketeers series…
Haru-Haru: All right guys, let’s do this! ONE FOR ALL…
Princess Cures, Yui-Yui, Puff and Aroma: AND ALL FOR ONE!!!
—0—
And now, I’ll like to do a damn very long final message to GPPC:
Thanks for showing us about being CONFIDENTLY STRONG, GENTLE AND BEAUTIFUL WITH A GREAT HEART through the power of hope and dreams of everybody…
The most beautiful royal warriors in the universe (and one of my best Cure teams ever so far)… Haru-Haru, Minamin, Kirara and Towachi… The Princess Pretty Cures…
The cute yet brave Royal Fairies of the Hope Kingdom (and among of my best main and minor Cure mascots)… Puff, Aroma, Ms. Shamour and Kuroro…
The coolest and most awesome extraterrestrial ally ever (and a WAY TOO BETTER ONE actually than Joe and Blue-sama)… Prince Hope Grand Kanata…
The ever-so clumsy yet eventually badass reformed ex-villains (and among of my best fave villains who mostly got reformed to the good side)… Shut and Lock…
The splendid, gorgeous and amazing peeps who’ve became part or change of their own lives thanks to the royal heroes… The Noble Academy crew like Shirogane-san, Mochizuki-sensei, Yuki-kun, Ranko, the NA Student Council et al; the Princess Cures’ families like the Haruno, the Kaido and the Amanogawa-Takamahara clans as well as the Hope King and Queen; and other sided supporting characters too like Mngr. Tachi, Rin-Rin, Bourollo-san, Tina etc…
And most of all…
The one who made everything possible, the one who encouraged us on Earth, and the universe rather, to believe in the power of dreams; the one who became the spiritual symbol against the wicked despair, the only presence of hope and ultimate key of dreams of the entire humanity, the “sun” of the Princess Cures, the illustrator of humanity’s hope and dreams, our youngest Earthling helper in the entire Cure series franchise, our resourcing Cure helper that creates a LOT of amazing things her predecessors didn’t have, the extraordinary roommate and friend of our blooming Flora, the incredible and valuable helper of our dear Princess Cures… Yui Nanase…
Oh yeah, special mention goes to the evil group that made us so wicked throughout the past year and challenged us about what despair really was… Dys Dark… Dyspear, Close, Stop and Freeze…
I must say that I’ve been enjoyed the cool ride for a year and this is actually one of my best Pretty Cure seasons ever (after Futari wa, Max Heart, Splash Star, Heart Catch, Suite and Smile). Everything in this amazing Cure season teaches us that we must strive hard about our dreams (with divine presence, of course) by not giving up on it and falling into despair. Tama nga ‘yung sinabi ni Flora, ang pagdurusa ay laging nandyan. Pero huwag hayaan itong manalo (Flora’s statement was really right, despair is always there. But don’t let it win). Bumangon at gumawa ng mga hakbang para matupad ang ating mga pangarap (Get up and make some amends to make our dreams come true). And oh yes, I have to add Yui-Yui’s line back in episode 48:
“The one who can fulfill your dream in the end… Is yourself!”
Plus I’d like to congratulate the cast and staff of Go! Princess Pretty Cure for a job well done. I don’t wanna mention their names but yeah, they’re all amazing and very talented at the same time. On my point of view, I have a lot of dreams (some minor ones actually) have been mostly fulfilled, so I must do the same thing to my own dream of being a journalist by pursuing it. Huwag na huwag iaasa sa iba at puro reklamo nasa isip at kaluluwa, dapat magsikap tayong lahat at bigyan ng saysay ang mga buhay natin para sa ikauunlad ng Earth (Don’t dare rely on others and pure complaints on the mind and soul, we should all work hard and give a good meaning to our lives for Earth’s development).
Once again from the bottom of my heart… Adieu… Adios… Paalam… Sayonara… Goodbye, Haruno Squad. Your greatest legacies will be forever lived on in our senses… Till then, gokigen yo! :’)
And with this episode concludes the excellent Go Princess Precure *Sniffs* I seriously broke into tears upon seeing Haruka, Minami, Kirara and Towa all reaching adulthood, the nostalgic feels man T_T (But they’ll revert back to teenage girls again in the upcoming All Stars movie??)
The best Precure season I’ve ever watched (yeah I love it even more than the much higher rated Heartcatch) no doubt, good lord after two consecutive years of watching the horrid Doki Doki Precure and Happiness Charge Precure, this season finally earned its place as one of the best Precure seasons ever, it was so enjoyable from start to finish! Almost all characters are so intriguing, from the Haruka’s “male chasers” for her affection- Kanata, Yuki and Close (which concluded with Kanata’s victory, Yuki X Haruka got dashed) to some ANNOYING characters like Kimimaro (he actually returned to Noble Academy at the end, but should he realized that Minami became a marine vet he’ll die of shock XD) and the ever-fiery Ranko with her never-materialized rivalry with Kirara, my favourite sparkling star <3 ALL the Cures have really outstanding families too, like Haruka's little sister Momoka, her mom Moe and her crying papa Ibuki, Minami's handsome bro Wataru (no Wataru X Kirara hmm..) and her mega-rich parents Tsukasa & Masumi, Kirara's parents who're decorated celebrities (Stella & Ken, the latter didn't get his voicing role though :/), and finally the Hope Kingdom royal family with Puff and Aroma becoming actual maid and butler as well as royal teacher Miss Shamour lecturing Kuroro at the end. And god Shut still pursuing "beauty" with Lock as his scarf LOL (The most heated Shut X Towa fell flat though…) Close what a persistent villain who battled Flora from start to finish, Dyspear easily some of the most evil villains in the Precure universe, Nanase Yui the best supporting character ever… oh, and add Asuka and Karin to the fray too, tons of outstanding characters in one season! Now my verdict on the four major Cures:
Haruno Haruka: I admit I didn't like her from the beginning, but as the season progressed her growth was simply outstanding until she can overcome so many dilemmas on her own and deserved her Grand Princess title. The ever-blossom Cure Flora, good effort!
Kaido Minami: True that Minami centric episodes may be lacking, but she's so gorgeous and possessed a wide range of talents and genuine leadership, but her fear of ghosts was so funny XD in the end she stayed true to her heart and became a marine vet (bite that Kimimaro XD). The Princess of the Seas-Cure Mermaid, have a good splash in the future!
Amanogawa Kirara: SPARKLING STAR OMG, she's my No.1 favourite in this season!! Her gorgeous looks accompanied with her cheeky personality and her genuine love of donuts made her such a sweet girl :3 Like Minami, Kirara centric episodes were lacking too, but so happy when she resumed her once-jeopardized model carrer in Paris and her on-stage walk with Stella watching! Ever-shining Cure Twinkle, my Star Princess <3
Akagi Towa/ Princess Hope Delight Towa: If Kirara was my favourite Cure in this season, then Towa is the BEST Precure I've ever seen! Her background as Dyspear's "daughter", her firm bond with Kanata, her motives for battle, her transformation & battle style, and her large array of talents, no wonder Towa centric episodes were always a joy to watch! In the end she finally returned to Hope Kingdom and so glad she can play her favourite violin tune with Kanata anytime! (Oh, and her fan club was huge too, with Shut the most prominent example) The blazingly radiant Cure Scarlet, may your flames ignite the world!
The drama between Haruka and Kanata finally came to a conclusion, and at the end all of them have grown up! Big shame we didn't get to see their adult faces, but it is 100% certain that their dreams have come true!! And my intuition tells me that Haruka smiled at KANATA at the end considering that's the iconic place where they first met and bid their farewell (noticing a gentle breeze blowing with petals floating around), but that's just my theory.
With one last golden phrase of the series: Gokigenyou all and GOODBYE!!!
What a wonderful text and review you wrote about this final episode, Eva. :´)
And I hope I can get some of my friends or my family members to watch this series too when the time is right. 🙂
About this episode, is beyond than I expected and again presents many surprises or unexpected moments and even very touching ones.
Episode 50 is very powerful and I’m glad that it too got in my list of favorites of this season. ^^
The battle between Flora and Close (or Clospear, as you call) is fierce, intense, beautiful, crucial and unexpected. The ending is completely different than I imagined, and what Flora said about Dreams and Despairs existing side by side is really important and I agree with her too. Who would have thought that to happen in this fight and episode? And I bid farewell and gokigenyou to Close as well.
Their worlds are unfortunately too separate, this is different than the DokiDoki ending and I couldn’t believe it! Nevertheless, I believe that they will meet again when their time comes, especially in All Stars movies. ^^
It’s so good to see, not just the cures, but almost everyone in their new steps towards their dreams while others are living happily, including Yuuki and his fans, Reiko, Ranko, Riko, Kenta, Hanae, and even Shut and Lock (love to see Shirogane-san appearing out of nowhere as usual in front of them.)! ^^
I also love to see Pafu and Aroma being able to transform into their human forms again! I really missed that! 😀
And is so good that Miss Shamour has a new apprentice to teach, being Kuroro of course! ^^
And finally, Princess Towa and Prince Kanata are together forever in their home and playing their violins again. ^^
The Dress Up Keys are safe and sound in the Castle and wow, glad that the Castle has returned to the Hope Kingdom as well! 🙂
Towa, Pafu and Aroma saying goodbye and Kanata’s farewell to Haruka are very touching! And when Towa and Kanata finally reunite with their family in their own homes, they both cry, and Flora as well, also touched me.
I wanted to cry for real in those moments, but at least, my heart did. :’)
It’s beautiful and happy to see Haruka getting ahead and with full of hope and happiness as always and runs ahead in the flowery field with the main theme song playing.
‘Ganbate, Haruka!’ 😀
The ending after credits is so touching and keeps touching my heart everytime. ^^
Years passed and the cures have grown beautifully in each world!
And Yui wrote the book about the Princess Pretty Cures, hooray and congrats!
So beautiful.
Full of hope.
And we have to imagine how will be their lives afterwards.
And one more thing, they will always be Tsuyoku, Yasashiku, Utsukushiku. 🙂
Gokigenyou, minna. :´)
Now, about the series, at the beginning I was finding it interesting and cool, so I watched every episode since then. And after nine episodes, I began to think that this series is turning out really good and different among others before! And after episodes 10, 11, 12 and 13, I was more attracted to watch the series and to me it was getting even better than I ever thought! The story of the whole season is well made and well written, and the characters are indeed ‘real characters’, all of them have importance (both the good and the bad)!
Haruno Haruka surely is my favorite lead Pretty Cure, she proved a lot better, cooler and stronger than I expected since the first episode. Not to mention that I’m very proud of her. ^^
I thought no new season of the Pretty Cures would achieve the level of my favorites: Fresh and HeartCatch, and I kinda enjoyed DokiDoki too. I thought Happiness Charge might do it, but it didn’t in my opinion. But Go! Princess Pretty Cure surely did and has turned to be my VERY favorite season of the franchise.
And I will always call it the The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword and Kingdom Hearts of the Pretty Cures franchise, because of its legacies presented from the past seasons, keys and keyholes, very touching moments, unexpected moments or surprises, the balance of life, ‘dreams come true’, ‘our hearts are connected’, and light and darkness.
I’m so glad I watched this season and I enjoyed a lot. I will miss it and the characters so much and I will never forget them. :’)
Oh! Love their Final Ending Card too! Much better than I expected! I hoped very much that Yui would be in it, but having Shut, Kuroro and even Ranko has turned the card much better! XD
I want to write/say it again:
Gokigenyou, minna. ^^
I hope the new season turns out good too, Eva. 🙂
And thanks for writing your reviews of ‘Go! Princess Precure’ to the end, for us viewers and fans. 😉
