Man this episode was a rough one for Lili. The poor girl can’t seem to catch a break. It’s so sad because Kit was only trying to help when he had heard she wasn’t going to be able to attend the party because she didn’t bring anything fancy to wear. So he had called up Maria (the head maid) to help her do just that. But whether it was Kit’s idea or not, I don’t think Maria would’ve agreed to letting Lili wearing their late mother’s dress had she thought it would pose any problems. Maria’s contribution, and the musicians instincts to play a song set the stage for Kit not to skip an opportunity to dance with Lili. And it was such a magical moment for the two of them, that it makes it all the more heartbreaking to see that dreamlike experience get immediately spoiled all because Richard and Kit’s fiancée Catherine just HAD to shame her in front of everyone. Man I knew the guy had a stick up his ass, but this was even more uncalled for.

Unlike their father, Richard wasn’t pleased to see Kit’s friends (who are not to their “pedigree” so to speak) get invited over. And we could see how he was peeved he was to see someone he doesn’t consider worthy to be wearing their late mother’s dress. And I find it so dumb too because  their father was obviously completely fine with this, in-fact he looked even pleased to see Lili wearing it!

As if that wasn’t bad enough, Richard was also pissed off that Kit was ignoring his fiancée Catherine Astor, whom he was apparently supposed to be escorting at the party. (Sure didn’t look like he had any interest in doing so with that attitude, but that certainly doesn’t help the situation.) It was very frustrating to see Richard and Catherine started ridiculing Lili for wearing the dress in front of everyone. This whole discussion could’ve been had after the part when they were alone. But no! They’ve both confronted them the way they did was them dragging them through the mud. And boy, Kit was absolutely fed up with this crap, and poor Lili had to be put in an awkward spot while humbly apologizing for wearing the Silver Lily Dress. She was really doing her best to mediate a bad situation, but it really was out of her control. I feel so bad for her.

Safe to say Catherine didn’t leave a good first impression. For someone who claims she knows Kit best, I sure beg to differ. Certainly doesn’t help her case when it appears Kit is not particularly fond of her either, especially since he considered it bother to have to even go over and greet her and the rest of the Ashtor Family. He was also furious with the way she and his brother was treating Lili, which goes to show he values Lili more than their opinion.

But Catherine didn’t do herself any favours when she takes it a step further by deliberately (though I must say, it was plainly obvious) pointing Lili in the direction of the peacock. Now Lili injured her ankle, lost in the botanical maze with no light, and as if that wasn’t already bad enough, apparently there are freaking wild dogs in the area?!? SHEESH. No wonder Kit was frantic, he had a good inkling where she’d be since she went out with her sketchbook, but the problem is the danger that awaits her in the dark.

However as much as I didn’t like the way Richard and Catherine had put Lili on the spot, it’s easy to forget that Catherine’s is feeling pretty insulted right now. Even if Kit doesn’t love her, she is Kit’s fiancée, and it is undoubtedly humiliating for her to see him seemingly escorting someone else instead of her– and on top of that, the girl wearing his mother’s dress to boot. Kit had no malicious intentions, he was only trying to help Lili participate in the party. Had it been any other regular evening gown, then maybe this crisis would’ve been averted altogether. That said, her attitude doesn’t justify her behaviour today.

And man… I do have to give credit to Lili for not caving under the tension of the room. I mean my god, I don’t know about you, but the freaking overwhelming silence and the way all eyes were on her, I would’ve freaked out. But she somehow managed to walk in and stand there despite that without even flinching! And honestly, I think the way she responded to the situation was the correct as she was attempting to diffuse the ugly situation by not adding more oil to the fire. As much as it sucked, retiring from the party was the best course of action in that moment.

As for Kit, it sucked that their moment got ruined because we really can see just how comfortable he is around Lili. Perhaps it’s because she’s so passionate about art like he is, and that he doesn’t have to be afraid of being treated differently now that she knows of his status. (Needless to say he’d rather do without it.) But that’s not all. We’re definitely in the process of seeing his feelings coming out for Lili. The way he looked at her when she walked in the room, and decided he wanted to dance with her. My goodness, you could plainly see the love in his eyes the whole freaking time they were dancing. That’s what made the moment so freaking magical. LOVE IS IN THE AIR!

On the brighter note, Lili finally got to meet Aphrodite (the horse), and we can understand now why she’s called such. A beautiful ancient thoroughbred like herself certainly gives off the aura of a Goddess. It’s sweet to see she has taken a liking to Lili as well, though maybe more so her pony-tail because it looks like a snack apparently haha!

And lastly, it was nice to see a glimpse into Kit’s childhood. Not only did we see he was always passionate about the arts, but he was quite close to his sickly mother as well. We’ve seen several portraits of her around the mansion, and it appears she really liked the lilies since there’s a bunch of them of them in their gorgeous garden. I guess that’s perhaps another reason he may find himself drawn to Lili.
