Holy smokes, way to go Sae! I was seriously panicking about the freaking misunderstanding that was about to ensue when Koki suddenly tells her he’s gonna confess to the girl he likes. I was like, “NOOOOOOOOO!!!! THE FREAKING MISUNDERSTANDING!!!! WELL YOU’RE RIGHT ABOUT THAT! SHE DOESN’T HAVE A CLUE HOW YOU FEEL!” I was losing my mind, and then all the sudden, Sae just confesses to him right then and there. She didn’t wait, she just went for it because she knew if she didn’t do it in that very moment, she’d never say it.
Obviously the timing was less than ideal because they are on shift overseeing people visiting their class’ exhibit, and unless someone can cover for Koki to chase after her, there’s nobody there to supervise it and they’ll get into deep trouble. So it came down to who was gonna track her down, Koki or Youta?
Speaking of Youta, oh man it’s too late bro. I feel for the guy, especially when he really been looking out for Sae. He noticed Sae was feeling self-conscious about her strength when she broke the record for the weight pulling activity for the Ultimate Strength Contest her classmates dragged her to. She really didn’t want to do it, but she did it anyways. Although the strength club members were raving her with praises, unfortunately she doesn’t think being called “Sumo Champion” is flattering. She’s already self-conscious enough about her height and weight. That’s when Youta stepped in, and by doing so and putting absolutely no effort into even trying to pull the thing– he literally just stood there the entire ten seconds, and created a new record that’d shift the attention to him. This was his way of looking out to her, and the first thing he says to Sae is asking if her hands are okay. These are all little things that we know Sae does appreciate.
Needless to say, I also find quite telling how quickly Youta been picking up on some things that Koki has overlooked or otherwise not taken into consideration over the years. For example, Koki had always assumed Sae liked milk, but the truth is she just put up with it because she wanted to be helpful to him when they were little. This is definitely an instance where Koki probably felt a bit gutted to see he didn’t seem to know Sae as well as he thought he did. But in all fairness, Sae done a good job of hiding the fact she’s not a fan of milk since she was little. Heck, she even practised drinking it at home! So he probably shouldn’t be too hard on himself in that regard.
Meanwhile Subaru really established herself as a much better character these past two episodes. I’ve mentioned before how I’ve been confused about her, but this week pretty much clarified that she’s not trying to sabotage things, but rather help move things along. She was even supportive of Sae, telling her not to be timid, and that she will play her requested song! Now that’s what we like to see! I do get the feeling that she may have put the song request on the table in plain sight so Koki can see. Perhaps this was her way of trying to give him nudge of confidence that Sae’s feelings are mutual with his own. But Koki seemed to have interpreted the opposite, and took it as a push to confess before she does. Joke’s on him though, she still beat him to the punch!
And finally, Sui these past few episodes have been an absolute comedic queen. I’ve really come to love her character. I enjoy her silly antics of attempting to be helpful or considerate, and her energy when she’s super motivated is hilarious. The way she covered Sae’s ears about things she doesn’t want her to hear, eagerly reminding her the time for her confession, and just all around being a good spirit. She’s truly an endearing character!
