My Happy Marriage is back, and what a great way to kick things off! Compared to last season, this episode immediately set the tone of what to expect this season: Miyo having an ominous dream with Kiyoka devastated and apologizing to her, and Prince Takahito announcing the prophecy of a looming calamity.

As such, word has it a Demon, a type of Grotesqueries that can be seen by an average person without spirit-sight  has been lurking about. And a suspicious individual has been reported to be travelling in and out of a remote village where the Kudo Family’s villa is at. If that wasn’t alarming enough, not only was it only Miyo who had the unsettling feeling she was being watched, but now we know there’s someone with Usuba blood said to be behind the motions of the calamity that Prince Takahito is concerned about. I’m really excited for this season, especially since viewers will be able to experience this arc all in one go, as opposed to the waiting time for readers (like myself) between for the following novel volume to come out. I’m really looking forward to it!

Since Kiyoka has been ordered to investigate the reports of the Demons in the area of his family’s villa, Miyo has finally been introduced to both of his parents. His father Tadakiyo comes off as a soft man who could be perceived as a pushover of a sort when it comes to dealing with his frosty wife. In comparison, he was very kind to Miyo, where as Fuyu is you’re classic insufferable monster-in-law. Very quickly we learned why Kiyoka was not only reluctant to go to the villa, but also didn’t really want Miyo to meet his her.

Of course, we all know that Kiyoka is fiercely protective of Miyo. So naturally as the leader of “Protect Miyo” squad, when his mother had the audacity to slander Miyo before she even had the chance to introduce herself, Kiyoka was livid. He quickly drove the point home that he will NOT tolerate his mother treating Miyo like crap with his powers drawing a thunderstorm (mood), and even straight up warned her he’d kill her if she mistreats Miyo. It’s an understatement to say… that was an extreme threat, to the point even Miyo’s face screamed: KIYOKA DON’T SAY THAT. But it’s precisely because of that Miyo’s even more determined to make sure the three of them can get along.

And to Miyo’s credit, she has grown tremendously since the first half of the first season. Once she left the toxic environment of the Saimori’s household, she was finally able to start coming out of her shell. She’s still working on breaking her habit of apologizing by default, but it’s a notable improvement for her to not only catch herself, but also take the initiative to pursue things she has decided to put her mind towards. It’s not an easy decision to seek acknowledgement from a woman who dissed her before she even had the chance to introduce herself. But even before they arrived at the villa, Miyo already had an inkling that her lack of education and short-comings were going to be a problem, and she needed to be mentally prepared to prove herself. And that’s what she has decidedly set herself to do. It’s certainly going to be an up-hill battle, but I’m proud of Miyo for strengthening her spine and looking to rise up rather than be continue to be trampled upon. Most of all, Miyo doesn’t want to be a ‘contributing’ factor to making an already frayed relationship between Kiyoka and his mother worse than it already is.

Last but not least, we can’t start the next season without a couple a combination of cuteness and sweetness overload between our love birds! From Kiyoka’s shy blush to Miyo getting all flustered while Kiyoka is completely cool-headed about sharing a bed together (or is he? HEH.) It’s clear as day they both want to, but Miyo’s shy heart was so overwhelmed that she just turned tomato red and Kiyoka was shell-shocked when she ran out of the room. It was so cute and funny, god I love these two. Nothing heals the heart and mood more than these two. Man I needed it. Bless them.

With that, I’m very excited for what we got coming this season. It helps a lot that the first episode this time round really got the ball rolling, building up the anticipation of the calamity threat hovering over them! Let’s goooooo!

Fun bit of trivia – Prince Takaihito’s name matches the RL-naming convention of Japanese emperors and heirs, who all have personal names ending with “hito(仁) = benevolence”.

Ex. Meiji – Mutsuhito, Heisei – Akihito, Reiwa – Naruhito.
