With Shizuku’s cosplay completed, what’s left is taking pictures and finally going to an event to show it off! So this week Marin invited Wakana to join her for the cosplay event, and honestly it was great thing that he went along with her. Wakana’s biggest insecurity is how he is perceived by others, so getting the chance to see people confidently embrace their passions by cosplaying their favourite characters, regardless of their genders just goes to show it’s okay to be yourself, and embrace what you love.
I think my favourite part of the episode was actually the whole build up with Marin running over to Wakan. Even though I knew what was coming, it still had me in stitches from laughing so hard. It was hilarious when I read it, and it was even better seeing in action. Wakana is having a moment thinking about how much he enjoyed their time together, and sees her turn to him with that beautiful smile, and what does she have to say when she runs up to him?
HER OUTFIT IS ABOUT TO FALL OFF.
OH MY GOSH AHAHAHAHAHA! Turns out the reason for that was because the night before, when Marin was reviewing their pictures, she realized that in order to be more like Shizuku, she needed to make her breasts appear bigger, so she decided to wear two NuBras, which was not taken into consideration when they were taking measurements. That’s spontaneous decision lead to the outfit being stretched to its limit. (That said, Marin was VERY proud of the boob bag. She couldn’t stop gushing about it.)
But that wasn’t the only problem with the outfit, Wakana learned that another aspect he needs to take into consideration comfort, mobility, and a choosing fabric that is fit for the temperature/environment it’s going to be worn in. Since he picked out thicker fabric for the outfit and this particular event was outdoors, with no place to stay cool the outfit became stuffy to wear.
And seriously, taking the heat into consideration is certainly something I’ve thought about whenever I cosplayed. The first time I did was playing it safe by deliberately picking a character I liked that had an outfit that where I wouldn’t have to worry about getting a heat-stoke, especially when it’s mostly an outdoors event and you’re going to be there all day. The second and third time were indoors with air conditioning, so I had more flexibility. I don’t know how folks who wear these epic but heavy costumes cope with the heat when it’s mainly an outdoors event. That’s real commitment and I salute to those who pull it off. You guys are real troupers.
So really it was a good thing that Wakana did join her on this excursion because being there allowed him to do a quick fit to hold the outfit together since she honestly didn’t think she could make it to the changing room.
That said, it is rather hilarious what Marin’s priorities are, and what she is oblivious to. She failed to notice Wakana was getting all flustered and was having an internal meltdown when he’s helping her cool off, and she’s making all these lewd noises. And then there’s the moment when the wind blew her skirt up during a photo (and this is why you wear shorts underneath!) and while Wakana and the girl who was taking the picture were flustered about it, Marin had thought the problem with the picture was her expression. MARIN PLEASE!
However Marin did finally become conscious of Wakana when he said she was beautiful. She did not forget how significant that word is to him, and for him to say that to her just made her a blushing mess. I do think this is a great way of balancing this whole dynamic between the two, because both are equally oblivious to what they say and do to the other, leaving the other internally screaming while blushing like crazy.
With Shizuku’s cosplay completed, Wakana thought that would be the end of their time together, but Marin has no intention of letting him go as she already asked him what shall they make next. And Marin is SUCH MOOD when she said she has at least fifty number one favourite characters, because seriously, HOW DO WE PICK ONE OVER THE OTHER? Since Wakana had so much fun, he’s already excited to start on their next project. Heck he even said he would buy a dress mannequin, which Marin said she would purchase on his behalf since he’s helping her out. It’s this kind of team work that I really enjoy, and I truly appreciate how much thought and consideration Marin gives him to make sure he doesn’t feel like he need to take care of everything himself.
Finally, the last thing I’d like to say is while the crisis scene one of my favourite moments of the episode, the other highlight was how excited the two of them were when they started taking pictures. It was very wholesome with how invested Wakana was in the photography process. I think it’s incredibly charming how he was just as enthusiastic as she was about how good the shots were turning out. And having played the game, he knew exactly what kind of expressions were in character too, so it just makes this moment the share together even more special. Heehee!
