I have very mixed feelings towards this episode and unfortunately for me I think they end up a little bit on the negative side. I tried really hard to get into the first half of this episode, but I don’t feel like I really got into it until after his brief fight in the arena. There was so much that happened before it, but I found myself more irritated if anything. I think a lot of that has to do with the interactions between Fushi and Tonari, I am just straight up not having a good time with it. But, as the episode went on, I found some things to enjoy, plus it looks like we’re finally going to get some backstory in the next episode so I’m looking forward to that!
I was wishing so hard that Fushi obtained Parona’s form due to a new ability and not her death… But that dream was quickly squashed in the early moments of the episode. Parona, if someone killed you, I will take them out myself. Now, I will say that it’s interesting to see how different people react to Parona. For Fushi and Pioran, she’s obviously a pretty significant person to them. For Pioran, she’s the reason she escaped out of her last prison, but Fushi travelled with her and March during some of his early stages of development. She was important to him before he could even say her name. But of course, Tonari doesn’t know who this person is, and she doesn’t even know that Fushi turns into individuals who have died. Instead, she’s just a pretty lady who smells nice.
I won’t spend too much time talking about Tonari, but it does get on my nerves how hard she’s trying to be Fushi’s friend despite a lot of his frustrations stemming from her actions. She’s not honest and every time she says that she’ll do something to help she ends up “talking out of her ass”. I know that there is probably reason for it, but if she wants to be better friends with Fushi perhaps she can learn to read the room. Some of the words of wisdom she’s imparted on him are very valuable, but it’s hard to take her seriously with all this frustration. I mean she’s the one who said that sometimes it is necessary to kill people (which, is probably foreshadowing if anything) and also spoke about needed others for support – which I wholeheartedly agree with! I’m just really hoping my feelings towards her in the upcoming episodes. I don’t have to love each new character, but I’ve reached the stage where I’m just mad every time, she appears which is unfortunate because she has potential!
But aside from those feelings, I did like how Fushi was able to connect with his opponent on the island. This guy has probably done some bad things just by nature of being on the island and being in the tournament (though based on his hand marking, he was not brought over as a prisoner), but Fushi still decided to spare him and they had a good heart to heart! Of course, that was cut short by some other angry villagers interrupting and of course the Nokkers. Now, I’m surprised that the Nokkers have come so early in the arc but seeing as they weren’t fully defeated in the battle with Gugu, they still have the strength to keep on fighting. The fight is really where I was back into the episode, I love that the island came together to stop Nokkers and it was a great way to teach Fushi that he can’t do everything on his own and that having support is important. So that was a good lesson.
And boy oh boy when he got March back the tears were already welling up. I missed March! And I’m glad that he wasn’t separated from Gugu for too long. Now, when Fushi got Gugu’s appearance, they showed that March was slightly hesitant of him. I wonder if there will be any interaction between her and Parona? If there is, I will probably be a mess. Oh well, so far, it’s all well that ends well and it seems like Fushi might be more willing to interact with Tonari and the others. So, I’m looking forward to all that we’ll lean in the coming episodes.
It’s hard to believe that there are only five more episodes to air. There’s still so much for us to learn and so much more heartache for us to experience! Here’s to seeing what they will give us next week!
