“Short and Cake, Thick Whipped Cream Showdown” coming to a bookstore near you. I wish I had the literary talent and creativity to come up with that. I hear stuff like that actually sells well. Looks like I have my next business venture idea. I have to say, this episode truly gave not a care in the world about trying to disguise Nanjo’s quirk. Sayuki and Yuika were pretty well concealed until the end. First scene of the episode. Whelp. There it is. The fujoshi, out in the wild. It gave me time to process, come to grips with reality, a silver lining considering I literally declared last episode that she was my favorite girl. She still is though! Otherwise I’d be jumping ship every episode. Desperately hoping that the next girl will just be a normal, regular person…
I think the thing that freaked me out most about this episode was how reasonable everyone was being about the situation. Yuika apologizes for tying him up, Sayuki says she won’t make advances in public, both of them wish he makes up with Nanjo again. Well, I’ll be damned. What parallel world have I stumbled into and how do I make it so I never have to go back? It is nice that there is a sense of friendship as the base for the harem. Wait, is it even still a harem? Nanjo said she will actively try to destroy any romantic relationship he has with a girl. I think she also likes him though. This is perplexing indeed. What happens when a fujoshi falls in love with the one she’s trying to pair up? Maybe this show will answer that question. I won’t hold my breath for that.
It’s funny because the first part of this episode, even though I knew the impending doom was awaiting us, in my head I was still going ‘awww’ when Keiki talked about Nanjo. How she put up a cold front but that one day in class he realized how much it meant to her and that’s how they first interacted. I mean, now we know it was because she was worried that working at the library would cut into her BL manga time but, hey, at least she’s passionate about it. The opening shows her messing with her glasses, flipping them up and down. I wear glasses and I do that sometimes so I thought it was just an innocent gesture. Never in my wildest dreams did I think she used that to activate her hidden personality. I need to start working on my alter ego. Maybe I can pretend to be a confident, sociable person.
We also got to see the great romantic sage Mizuha step up to the plate again. Not only as a probably wonderful lap pillow, but to offer her always seemingly perfect life advice. I can’t even tell what is going on with her at this point. Whether she has a brother complex or is just an innocent sister wishing for the best for her brother. Yeahhh, I’d probably bet on the first one.
Wtf with Shoma’s book. “They’re little but that’s not a problem, because it’s legal! 800 years old.” If nothing else, I find this show’s commentary on the average weeb pretty hilarious. That scene with Shoma and Keiki at the arcade was sensual as all hell. They got that nice romance music going in the background. A wall slam combo’d with the lower waist catch after he tripped. Pulling out all the stops.
At this point, I’m curious how this’ll play out. Actually, do Yuika or Sayuki know about Nanjo? They didn’t get along because they knew about each other, but maybe Nanjo is the unexpected underdog. If she’s out to ruin any relationship he’s in, no doubt she’ll draw the ire of those two. Quite interesting indeed. I know the animation isn’t that great for this show in general, but that scene with Shoma playing tennis outside was awful and hilarious. I don’t understand the desire to keep doing far away shots and leaving out details or sometimes even whole faces. They probably realize no one is going to stop watching at this point. They have us in the palm of their hands… Damn it.
Next episode preview… We hear a lot of bunny sounds and the name Koharu. Guess that means it’s time for the next introduction. The case of Cinderella’s Panties continues once more! I have to admit, I’m surprised this show has stayed in the upper 6 range for its MAL score.
