Ah, yes. I had a feeling this episode was being a bit too wholesome. My brain was off, I was enjoying the show, for like 15 minutes and then I was like, wait… looks up at title this is a trap. And right I was. In some small way, that means I’m learning. It’s about a show that’s basically softcore porn, but learning is learning.
Can we quickly talk about what might be the most high energy episode recap that has ever been created? Most shows start off calm, serene, giving me time to look at my phone, open up a notepad. The funimation sequence played, I was chillin’, then fucking BAM the recap happened. I actually jumped a bit out of my seat. Good shit though. I like the vaguely rhythmic, musical style.
I actually think whoever did the OST deserves a raise. Well, probably most people working in the anime industry deserve a raise too, so moot point. The soundtrack is amazingly well coordinated and gives off the exact mood that they’re going for. Especially that piano at the end. On that same train of thought, I love the opening. That’s definitely getting saved to a playlist somewhere. Does anyone else start to get burnt out on anime, but then you have this playlist of OPs, EDs and just random moments to get you back in the spirit?
So the quest for Cinderella is still on and, maybe I’m wrong with this, but it seems like we can rule out the people whose fetish we discover? That’s the impression I’m getting. I’m honestly still betting on the little sister. We did find out that Cinderella wasn’t an exhibitionist, but just happened to be in the room when Keiki was returning so she may have had to hide in the locker for that reason instead? The jury is still out.
Speaking of the little sister, she came in clutch this week! Not only was it just generally good advice, but Keiki actually delivered on it! That was probably the smoothest first date I’ve seen in an anime since I’ve started watching anime. Love the ‘Indecisive King’ movie title. I have a feeling that will be a relevant theme later on… Let’s enjoy the good times while we can. The fact that he actually took her to a meaningful movie based on when they first met though, my man. He may be dense (thinking of the beginning scene at the library desk) but at least he’s thoughtful.
Wow, did I hate those ‘thug’ guys though. I mean, you hate them as soon as they start catcalling, but then one of them offered gum or chocolate in exchange for a date. She’s not 12 years old and I don’t know why you think that would work?? My favorite was when Keiki swooped her up, the guys are leaving and one goes ‘so hungry…’. OK, dude. I don’t know if you’re actually just hungry, but that line made me laugh so hard. What a non-sequitur.
We have to talk about Shoma this episode too. At least we get why he has no girlfriend now despite being so popular. Looks like the fetishes weren’t exclusive to the girls. “Ahh, so Shoma is one of thoooose”, the first thought that went through my head. I do like how close they are though. I mentioned this last time, but I really have missed that bro connection in a lot of romantic anime.
I can only assume that next episode will be Nanjo’s turn, considering she saw them at the fast food joint. Mentally, I will try to keep my guard up this time. Conveniently, at this point, Keiki, Sayuki, and Yuika can still maintain a healthy relationship. In theory. It’ll be like a pyramid, Yuika > Keiki > Sayuki. Let’s see if Nanjo can fit into that hierarchy. Maybe that’s the end of the show. One giant ass open relationship.
The reveal of Yuika’s quirk was glorious. The shadow play, the pacing and having her in and out of the bookshelves, the music behind it. I have to admit the show is just really well done on top of being very fun.
Extra thoughts:
I like how this guy is just spending his free time playing with the underwear in his room. I mean, what else is he going to do with it, I guess.
Oh shit, racism. It’s interesting that she’s mixed race instead of being a transfer student. I don’t see many anime call out the homogeneous nature of Japan. That’s probably just me reading deeper into since I used to study that stuff though.
I love that paint splatter to change great to dog in, that piano music in the background to set the mood. A+.
