Oh god! Can we go back to the wacky shopping adventures of Fitzgerald? Perhaps to doing odd jobs for the agency? Everything is on fire and I don’t know how to process everything that has happened into this episode. I’ve seen things go south quickly in series before, but this was one hell of a ride down bad things lane to “oh my god, everything has gone wrong.” village.
Fukuzawa is the first to fall. While investigating a suspicious blood trail, he comes across a masked Assassin. Someone whose goal is to kill all gifted ability users, a mysterious ability cuts him from behind and inflicts him with a poison. Yasano’s ability is no use in healing him up, the agency is naturally shaken up having their boss out of commission.
They of course, want to make a move after the masked assassin. However, Dazai says that they should wait. The Port Mafia is sure to take this attack on gifted personally, it’s also only a matter of time before they’re victims. Which would look bad for them, so it’s obvious they are going to make counter measures.
Dazai was right, we immediately cut to the Port Mafia laying plans to catch the masked assassin. Which include putting Mori in fake danger, he appears to be shopping with Elise and climbs into a car and the car explodes. They use that to track the general area the masked assassin is in and Akutagawa sets after him.
Meanwhile, while Mori is in the area of the exploded car. A policeman approaches him and begins asking questions. However, that policeman is really Fyodor and he stabs Mori in the gut and infects him with the same poison that was injected into Fukuzawa.
A virus that will kill them both, if one or the other doesn’t die first. An ability that is linked, if Mori dies then Fukuzawa lives and vice-versa. All of this, to put the Armed Detective Agency and the Port Mafia at war with one another.
However, if the policeman was Fyodor, that opens the question “Who was the masked assassin.” well of course, in a show down with Akutagawa we get an answer to that question. Sort of, the man behind the mask is ex-guild member Nathaniel Hawthorne. However, there is something not entirely right about him. He doesn’t seem to recognize Akutagawa, who caused his downfall during the Guild arc and there is just distinctly something wrong with his eyes. It’s as if he is under the control of someone or something else.
Is it the ability of one of the Russian authors? It’s possible of course. There really is no point in making too many theories right now.
Not with the Port Mafia and the Detective Agency about to begin their battle outside the hotel that contains Fukuzawa. With Kunikida as the acting commander of the agency and it seems Chuuya making the calls for the Port Mafia. They know one thing, they can’t let their boss die.
Of course, this would be a dismal enough situation as it is. However, it gets worse in the fact that Dazai approached Fyodor for information on the poison and in the process got hit by a sniper. He’s in surgery getting a bullet removed at a hospital separate from the one where the battle is about to go down.
I would be lying if I said I wasn’t excited, still, this was one hell of a ride.
I can oddly sympathize with both sides of the conflict. Mori may be an absolute bastard, but he means a lot to the members of the Port Mafia. In the Yakuza, the boss is everything and members are generally protected and taken care of by one another.
On the same side of the coin, Fukuzawa is everything to the agency for many reasons.
The drama of season 3 has begun and i’m interested to see where things will go.
