I for a brief moment tried to explain the events of this episode to someone who had never seen Jojo before. It worked about as well as you would expect when you’re like “Okay, so this guy used the AC on the train to use a spiritual fishing rod to hook another guy and pull him in for a fight. Meanwhile, everyone else on the train is aging rapidly and dying of old age unless they find a way to stay cool. So like, body temperature is really important and most of our main characters are hiding inside of a turtle.”
I sound insane right? Well that’s what this episode was, absolutely insane. It baits us with not just one but two character death fake outs. I might of believed Mista’s death at the half way point, but there is absolutely no way I am going to buy Bruno’s death at the end. It is way too early in the series to be killing him off.
After Mista is caught by The Beach Boys and pulled in towards Pesci. He fires Sex Pistols off to scout ahead for his enemy and they find Pesci and destroy his ice, causing him to panic and lose focus on attacking Mista. Just as it seems that Mista is going to beat Pesci, a seemingly random aging passenger grabs on to him. In the greatest bit of camouflage ever, the seemingly random passenger is actually Prosciutto. Who uses the direct contact with Mista to rapidly age him.
I’m going to level with you, I didn’t recognize him at all. I suppose I should of noticed by the hair style, but he did a brilliant job of aging himself and making himself blend in with the dying passengers. After aging Mista, he shoots him three times in the head in an attempt to finish him off and that’s when we reach the episodes mid way point.
It’s lucky for Mista that he tucked that piece of ice into his hat to keep one of his Sex Pistol bullets from aging along with him and it saved him from being shot and sent another one of the bullets to warn Bruno about Pesci and Prosciutto.
That leads to him fighting against Prosciutto using Sticky Fingers, with one of Mista’s bullets holding ice to his forehead. It’s honestly pretty engaging to watch and as he gets grabbed onto, Prosciutto claims his victory. Until he realizes that being grabbed onto is exactly what Bruno wanted.
Sticky fingers makes a zipper on the train to open them up to the outside. He intends to eject Prosciutto from the train, together with himself. Anything for the mission, anything for his men, anything to help save Trish.
Honestly, can we just talk about how Buccellati is the MVP of part 5? This is a man who cares deeply for his men, is determined to complete his mission no matter what the cost. Is completely willing to believe in Giorno’s dream and reform the organization from the inside out. Takes in the misfits and helps them and is overall just amazing? Not to mention clever, powerful and charismatic.
This episode was intense, crazy, and everything i’ve come to expect from Jojo. Now excuse me while I never attempt to try to explain Jojo to someone who has never watched Jojo ever again.
