Berry: This looks like it’s going to be really trippy. I’m pretty interested in this, even though I have no idea what it’s going to be about. I won’t promise I’ll blog this but I’ll at least check it out.

Eva: It’s cute and all, but I’m just not interested.
Vantage: So like a nationwide idol contest, except featuring action heroines instead?

Charibo: It is clearly not an anime made for me.

Eva: If you haven’t read the manga, stop what you are doing and start reading this series immediately. THIS IS THE HYPE OF THE SEASON. I also can’t tell you how relieved I am that it’s Production I.G who are producing this (I mean I knew it would have to be them, but still, they definitely have the best reputation for adapting sport series!). This series is in good hands. IT IS ABSOLUTELY SPECTACULAR. PREPARED TO BE BLOWN AWAY~
Vantage: I’m aware that the manga has been met with critical acclaim, but it’s not something I can say I’m familiar with. This anime will be a good opportunity to change that.
Berry: This looks amazing and I’m excited for this. I’ve seen the hype and I believe I’ll enjoy this a lot.
Nikolita: I will eagerly await Eva and Charibo’s reviews of this show. :3
Charibo: I second Eva here: THE MANGA IS AMAZING! I don’t know how to put in words my excitement! However, I think Studio I.G cannot match the manga’s art style since it’s so freaking amazing but from what I saw from the preview and know from Studio I.G I think they will make a good job.

Eva: Looks like a really cute series, but I’ll save it for a time to marathon it.
Vantage: T H I C C I’ve never even heard of Emon Animation. Whether this will end up being a poor man’s Demi-chan is anyone’s guess (although the fact that it’s… well, not A-1 Pictures isn’t helping) but I’m willing to give it an episode or two.
Berry: I don’t know how but I KNOW they’re going to find a way to sexualize that fucking centaur. Mark my words. I can already see the people calling her “thicc”. Anime was a mistake.
Nikolita: So kind of like Demi-chan wa Kataritai but with more mythological creatures. It sounds like something I’d like, but there’s something about the centaur that just freaks me out for some reason.
Charibo: Reminds me of the infamous “Uma no Prince Sama” game but without the horse ikemen and with a girl.

Vantage: The synopsis interests me, but the dated visuals really aren’t encouraging at all. It looks like it’d fit right into something from the start of last decade, complete with a 4:3 aspect ratio.
Berry: It could potentially be interesting but I’m not so sure.

Eva: So this is actually based off a Chinese Webmanga! The premise catches my attention so I will have to at least do a Quick Look.
Vantage: This both looks and sounds exactly like the kind of adaptation produced from a Chinese web publication. I heard The King’s Avatar was pretty good, but animated productions of Chinese webnovels have generally never interested me.
Berry: This sounds like it could be a sad but sweet show, but the PV makes it out to solely be a comedy. Still, it’s caught my interest.

Eva: What’s this?! A-1 Pictures managed to snag a fate series? Shocking to say the least, but before everyone freaks out (I’m already seeing panic) let’s give them a chance first. The animation in trailer isn’t shabby to say the least. Needless to say, we got a lot of fate series coming out way in the future and they aren’t being produced by Ufotable. (EG: Fate/Extra Last Encore being animated by SHAFT, which doesn’t surprise me because they animated the opening video for the game.)
Vantage: It’s been a while since I’ve had anything to do with the Fate franchise. So I feel rather out-of-date, and whilst I’m happy to watch this I’m not really up for blogging it.
Berry: Well I saw Unlimited Blade Works, which I thought was fine. I loved Fate/Zero more. I’m still new to the Fate series but this could be just as good.

Vantage: I loved Galko-chan. It was lewd and all, but shows like this demonstrate that it’s had a surprisingly major trend-setting impact. We’re going to see lots of anime focusing on gyarus in the next few years.
Berry: Okay so if you can’t properly button up your shirt because your boobs are too big, you need to buy a bigger shirt. 😐 Also, no thanks.

Eva: Uhhh, is it just me or does it feel really outdated? Well it doesn’t matter, I’m not interested.

Berry: This dude gets to be reincarnated into another world and gets any wish. He could wish for his family to accompany him, or friends, or something more important. His…phone. His fucking phone. I just…can’t.
Nikolita: Because the stereotype of millennial being obsessed with their smartphones isn’t already everywhere? That being said, it *would* be neat to have such a piece of technology in a fantasy world if it isn’t as advanced as our own.

Eva: Holy crap I’m getting serious flashbacks of when I first started watching anime in the early days. The the last time we saw Hell Girl (S3) was in 2008, that’s almost 10 years ago!!!!! But yeah, I still remember the first time I tried to watch this. I couldn’t because it scared me too much hahahaha!
Vantage: I feel like this is how the Kino no Tabi reboot will go next season. Six new episodes and six repeats. It’s been a very long time since I’ve had anything to do with Jigoku Shoujo, and I’m not sure if I’m in the mood for it.
Berry: I was debating whether I should blog this, but I think I’ll pass. I enjoyed Hell Girl a lot and another season after almost 10 years is insane, but considering that it’s been years since I’ve seen the show I’m hazy on character and plot details. Also, Hell Girl was usually an episodic show and that would be tough to blog. But I’m really looking forward to this new season. 🙂
Nikolita: More Hell Girl! I won’t blog it but I might watch the first couple of episodes.
Charibo: I remember reading all the mangas when I was young. Come to think of it that was a rather dark and gloomy thing to read… Might explain a lot of things about me.

Eva: Errrr…. I thought I’d be into it, but the reality is, I’m not.
Vantage: Yet another example of something with production values from the 2000s. It’s not like good art is always a make-or-break, but it’s important to leave a good first impression, you know?
Berry: That CG looks bad.
Nikolita: Nope.

Genre: Mystery, Drama, School, Shounen, Psychological
Airing Date: July 1, 2017
Summary: Hyakkaou Private Academy. An institution for the privileged with a very peculiar curriculum. It’s not athletic prowess or book smarts that keep you ahead. It’s reading your opponent. What better way to hone those skills than with a rigorous curriculum of gambling? Here, the winners live like kings, and the losers are put through the wringer.
Trailer: PV 1 | PV 2
Team Impression
Eva: Eh, I don’t mind reading psychological stories, but I don’t like watching them as much.
Vantage: Mary is the cutest and the best. A real bitch, but also super cute. I’ve read the manga, and it’s basically Akagi-style gambling but without the mahjong. Don’t really want to blog it, though. I’d know what’s up in advance, so each post would just collapse into waifuposting.
Berry: This looks insane and right up my alley!
Nikolita: A show about gambling, but it’s got a lot of psychology? I might actually take this one.
Charibo: First, I was repelled by the little fan-service side I thought the show had. But after checking out the first chapters of the manga, it’s no big deal. I actually enjoyed it (and there’s only one guy so far… which means a lot to me).

Vantage: As I was saying to Eva recently, ufotable plus Touken Ranbu is like pouring more money onto an already-guaranteed pile of gold. Look at how successful Kancolle was with Diomedea. Touken Ranbu could end up with a meme studio like DEEN and still turn over a tidy profit.

One day the king of the village, Kodai, recruits troops to fight against the ruler of the darkness, Giri. Kukuri and Nike are accepted. The two children, the strong but reluctant hero Nike, and the eager but unskilled little witch Kukuri, set out on a wonderful journey full of adventures and friendship.

Nikolita: Haven’t read the manga before, or seen the original adaption, so pass.

Nikolita: I have virtually no interest in any superheros, save for maybe Batman. Definitely no interest in the Avengers. Yes I’m boring as shit. ;P
Charibo: AHAHAHAHAHAHAHA, nononononononon, I won’t volunteer for this, take anyone but me. I refuse to do it. I have no interest whatsoever in super heroes.

Overall Thoughts
Eva: Surprise! I’m back! I won’t lie, while Katsugeki Touken Ranbu is the show that sold me to participate this summer (I wasn’t planning on possibly returning as a full time writer until the Fall), Ballroom e Youkoso is what drew my attention to this season in the first place. Now while there isn’t a whole lot of shows that gets me excited like those two, I am looking forward to Fate/Apocrypha, Koi to Uso, and Knight’s & Magic (more out of curiosity). However I can’t see myself covering more than 3 shows (including VRAINS), so I am thinking of possibly yielding Ballroom e Youkoso to Charibo, and look to make a pick among the remaining three if they are left untouched. That being said, I am quite pleased to see there’s a good handful of shows that have piped my interest this season, especially since I haven’t watch anything beyond the Yu-Gi-Oh! series I’ve been covering for the past year. I am sure to be a bit rusty, so please bear with me!
Vantage: Ehh. To be honest, I wasn’t originally going to participate in the season. I’m interested in almost nothing, and lately I’ve been feeling like it’s high time for a break anyway after six to seven years of doing this. That’s how I spent most of the last season, in fact. The thing is, my real-life commitments are such that in a few years, I will most definitely not have any time to blog whatsoever, whereas my life will never again be as free as it will be over the next ten months or so. In other words, better now than later, even if the end result is that I’m burned out entirely. The solution I’ve arrived at, at least for this season, is to pick up a select few shows like New Game and Symphogear which I know I will definitely be excited for, and just roll with those.
Berry: I actually have plenty of time to blog but this season looks dry af. The three shows I for sure want to check out and blog are Kakegurui, Princess Principal, and the Vatican one. I’ll check out THE REFLECTION because it deserves to be looked at, and maybe 18if. But of course, like I sometimes do, there may be a show that comes out that will totally surprise me and I’ll end up reviewing it so I can’t totally say these are the only shows I’ll blog. But yeah, this season seems pretty average. Well I could use my extra time to catch up to other shows. *shrug*
Nikolita: This season seems pretty average, but there’s not any one show I’m super excited for. Life and health have encouraged me to blog a little less for the time being, so in addition to Re:CREATORS I will probably only pick up one or two shows. I will preview the couple that looks interesting and if I want to cover one or both, great, but if not then I’ll just stick to my one continuing show. That being said if I blog less, I would like to do more manga reviews and other projects to compensate.
Charibo: Yup, I do have the same feeling as my comrade above, this season looks average. To be honest I’m only excited for Ballroom e Youkoso and Shoukoku no Altaïr. I might try to cover Dive! or the quiz show one but I’m still note sure about that. Huuum… I hope I do not sound too unmotivated. I’m motivated but just for a couple of shows and it does seem a bit ridiculous compared to the amount of choices we got here. But heh, who knows? I might get a good surprise 🙂
Isekai Shokudou’s more of a slice of life anthology series about the enjoyment of food. Focus is on various fantasy peoples coming to said restaurant and enjoying the well-prepared 21st century western-style Japanese cuisine there. The source novel is has many descriptive words on how appetizing a dish is.
Dive counts as a youth drama series, so expect drama. Some people who saw the prescreening of the 1st 2 eps say a major theme is Sacrifice to acheive your goals.
Really compared to spring I’m not excited for summer either.
Like how more people are trying out the magical girl genre but I feel only PreCure does a good job with the genre. (Not a fan of Sailor Moon and haven’t got the chance to watch Puella Madoka)
And on top of that…what’s with the craze of going back in time two generations ago?
No idea, but it certainly feels like we’re going back through time LOL.
For the record, guys:
Centaur no Nayami – calling it a “poor man’s Demi-chan” is getting things reversed. This series explores social and life issues with a depth that Demi-chan doesn’t even begin to touch. The only real concern is that the people making this adaptation apparently do not have a good track record at all, so it could end up going poorly despire having strong source material.
Enmusubi no Youko-chan – this is an adaptation of a Chinese ANIME, known as Fox Spirit Matchmaker (I’m not even going to try typing out the Chinese name). The original is very much an anime in every sense, and it is quite good: a remarkably well-balanced mix of comedy, action, romance, and drama.
Made in Abyss – this is absolutely NOT MADE FOR KIDS. Ye gods. Do not expose your children to it unless you want them to have PTSD.
New Game – Vantage, how could you not recognize the wonderfulness that is Nenecchi? Nene is a good girl.
Also, there’s something weird going on with your comment system these days. If I type too long a comment, the “post comment” button scrolls off the bottom of the little window area designed for it, and there seems to be no way to scroll down in that area and get it back. While this can cut down on comment size if people know what’s happening, when I didn’t it resulted in me staring at the page going “WTF? How am I supposed to post this?!”
Thank you for informing us about that. I have just updated the theme, please let me know if this solves the problem, if not I’ll send a note to the theme’s developer about that. Most likely something is broken or a bug and hopefully it can be patched up in the next update since it’s not supposed to do that. 🙁
Still appears to be a problem. I can easily test it just by clicking into the text box for a post and holding down the Enter key. The screen quickly scrolls down and all the interface stuff at the bottom (the post comment button, the part with my login info, all of that) quickly scrolls right off the bottom of the post area. And I can’t scroll in that section: every attempt to do so just scrolls the entire screen, which doesn’t do anything for this issue.
Since you may need to know for tech support, I’m using Firefox version 54.0.1 (32-bit).
That’s weird, I don’t have that problem…. But I’m using Firefox 54.0.1 (64-Bit). I wonder if that changes things… It would be good to know if this is a problem for many others as well. Anyhow I’ll send a notice to the developer and hopefully there will be a fix! ; A ; Thanks for the feedback on the issue! Always appreciated!
Nenecchi is a spy! And a pudding thief! A PUDDING THIEF!
I’m actually wondering how they’ll slot her into this season if she’s to have anything more than a role at the margins, given that she was only ever at Eagle Jump part-time.
As for Made in Abyss, I was hoping it’d turn out to be something along those lines, but the anime’s art style looks like such a disappointment when compared to the source material’s.
Aww, come on. It was an accident, and she got really upset when she realized she’d done it.
I’ll let you find out for yourself how she does and doesn’t fit into things this season. 😀
I’ve steered clear of Made in Abyss personally, but other people who are following it have made it very clear that, despite the designs, it is some really dark stuff.
Omg i have to watch many of them , now my target for next few month is try to finish the anime’s in this list,
Btw which one are worth wacthing
