First off, I want to say sorry about the delay. School is seriously kicking my ass nice and hard. It’s the last few weeks, I’ll make sure to get these reviews out on time, especially for this show because goddamn. This show fucks me up.
We learn a lot of ugly truths this episode. Interesting that one of Willem’s friends survived. I was hoping I’d like him but after everything he’s done and said I cannot. Apparently the beast that Willem fought before is alive and worked with Souwong to build these floating islands. However, Souwong hates this life and wants to return back to the surface. Knowing now that Willem is alive, he wants him to join him in taking down the beasts and regaining their home once more. We didn’t get the whole truth about the beasts origins, so the group he mentioned that made the beasts was a complete lie. I knew there was something off because Ebon started explaining until Souwong immediately cut him off and explained himself. Apparently if he had told Willem the truth, it would have made him hate him. Willem gets angry and declines Souwong’s offer, and he only gets angry because of what he told him.
The faeries are beings created from wandering spirits. They do not fear death because they’re basically ghosts. Their lifetime is extremely short, and problems with the faeries is that they can remember the memories of their past life. And Souwong is the one that creates all of them. Because they’re aren’t alive, and he can make them from any spirit with his necromancy, the girls really are just disposable beings. Souwong shows a complete lack of care for them, and this causes Willem to grow angry at him. The reunion between them and their conversation was interesting, and we learned a lot about the world and the faeries, however we know that vital information is still being withheld.
Regaining memories of their past self, through too much venenum poisoning, can be fatal. That’s what was affecting Chtholly, and Willem gets the news that she’s collapsed. Or as the little ones say, she “broke”. Judging from the opening, this Elq girl may be a certain someone. We only saw a little of her as she was searching for a “jade” and “ebo” (Ebon? Hmm…). Chtholly remembers the promise she made of returning back to Willem and so she miraculously comes back to life. There was a lot of foreboding words from both Elq and Ithea and I just remember the very first scene we saw in the first episode. We may have gotten a sweet and romantic ending to this episode, but this is just the beginning to the pain Chtholly is going to experience. Apparently the miracle of love won’t save her, because as Ithea said, whatever she did to come back to life is probably going to come back and make her suffer. And I think we all know that’s going to happen.
I cried in the end when Willem and Chtholly embraced, and I’m glad she admitted her love to him out loud. Then Ithea had to ruin the moment. What we learned this episode was depressing, because these girls are going to die eventually even if it’s not from making themselves explode.
Willem is right when he says there’s nothing to return to on the surface, so why the hell does Souwong want to return to badly…unless there is something there? I just want to know the truth and nothing but the truth! Or as the episode’s title says, maybe some things are better left unsaid.
