I swear by the end of this show, butter cake is going to give me nightmares. Because the last time butter cake was promised, very bad things happened. This show always seems to make me feel happy and heartbroken every time, and now I’m worried that something really bad is going to happen next.
Lots of worldbuilding and reveals once again. We finally got the explanation of Willem’s past, and the fact that he’s still alive is shocking. We knew he was frozen for 500 years (from what a synopsis said), but it wasn’t made entirely clear until now that he was also one of a group of humans that wielded the dug weapons, which is why he knew so much about them during the little brawl with Chtholly, and when he did maintenance on her weapon. His bones are broken, his organs can barely function correctly, and yet he’s still standing around like nothing is wrong. We learn from Nygglatho, who found him along with other scavengers, that he’s the last of the human race. The humans made other races fight against each other and this in turn caused everyone and everything to be wiped out entirely. Willem was hit with a petrification and was frozen, and years later he was found in a frozen lake and was awakened. He mentioned some names from the flashback, which probably belong to the two people we saw in the other flashback last episode.
Because we know of all this, Willem knew that the fairies were using their weapons incorrectly. There is actually no need for the fairies to kill themselves because they can have enough strength just from the swords. But Chtholly didn’t want to accept this new piece of knowledge because that would just mean that the faeries before her died for nothing.
There was no way she wanted to accept that because it just made her think of a fairy that gave her the emblem that she wears now, another fairy who likes butter cake (Hmm…). Honestly, learning that many fairies died for nothing is depressing, but that also gives Chtholly the choice to become stronger and keep herself from having to die. Even though these girls have grown to be indifferent about their lives, we learn that Chtholly really is afraid to die. She talks about this to her superior Lizardman. I thought this guy would be terrifying and cruel, but he actually seems like a decent enough guy for Chtholly to share such an honest conversation with him that could potentially change how missions work. And from what she told Willem, Lizardman says that she has the choice of taking care of her mission with resolve without having to open a Fairy Gate. Though…I AM curious to see how that all works. B-But no, if that means them dying then that’s okay! What follows then is a another sweet moment between Willem and Ctholly. I especially loved the talismans shining around, creating yet again a beautiful and magical moment. Scenes like that one always make me smile, but then the smile left my face when the butter cake was mentioned. I sure hate irony.
I already love all the characters so much that I’m going to be heartbroken if and when one of them dies. Chtholly is so endearing, I just find her to be so sweet. I understood her feelings. She never wanted to be a warrior but here she is. But now we can see that she’s a little happy at least, because there’s this hope, and that’s Willem. I’ve already mentioned my love for Willem, but I surprisingly love Nygglatho too. I enjoy the motherly side of her too, and you can clearly see that she suffers for these girls too. So…much…suffering…
Let’s not have anyone die, ok? Happiness and sunshine and flowers for everyone, pls.
