No offense, but God is being a little bitch right now.

Believe in me or die? Excuse me, but who is the real villain here? It really makes you question who the real bad one is. Tanya, because it’s literally in the title? Sure, when she was a man she was a shitty person, but it’s not like she killed anyone. Well, she’s killing people now but that’s because she’s in a war. Being X is literally making Tanya pray to him so she won’t die and she can use the jewel. Being X thinks that by making the jewel useful by prayer, Tanya will slowly become a believer. But it’s done the opposite and just pissed her off even more, and I get it.

Tanya may be a brat, and she has a shitty grin…that I love, but I like her a lot more. She just doing what she has to do to live in this world. I don’t know what this anime is trying to tell us. Fuck God and religion? Embrace God and religion? Personally, I’m atheist and I hate when people try to force their religion on others. So seeing Being X force Tanya to pray or else die pissed me off. Forcing her to pray isn’t going to do anything, she’s just going to hate you more now. So far, switching to the present time in the story now, Being X’s plan isn’t working and I don’t think it will, and he’s probably going to show up later to mess with her again. I don’t know if it’s bad that I like Tanya a lot more, but who cares.

So not too much happened this episode. Tanya was sent to test out prototypes and blew up in the sky a couple times. She told the doctor off and wrote a letter of transfer to the front lines because there was no way in hell she was going to test weapons out anymore. She got the approval, but she was made to test another jewel again, and the scene with God making her pray happened. The night before, Being X payed her a visit in her room and told her he would produce a miracle, and that’s what happened.

Going back to the present time, Tanya was promoted to First Lieutenant and sent off to the military academy. And before leaving, Tanya recommended Viktoriya to become an officer, so they’re both leaving the frontlines. Tanya is happy to finally get a peaceful life in the capital, but we got a strange ending where Tanya’s peaceful days are most likely going to come to an abrupt end.

Slow episode, but it was still a good one. The scenes with Tanya and Being X are always interesting to watch, though they can be a little frustrating. I still forget there’s comedy in this show and I love it. The comedy isn’t forced and fits well with the setting, for example like the explosions in the beginning and Tanya’s scolds at the crazy doctor. Tanya’s inner dialogue and her expressions are also a huge plus. The comedy isn’t over the top, thankfully. Not to shit on it, but last season’s Drifters did horribly with the comedy, by having a dark and serious setting and having unfunny jokes being told in a completely different artstyle that was randomly thrown in. Youjo Senki has the same dark setting, but the comedy is done just right that it does make you laugh. Not laugh hysterically, but chuckle here and there when you need to, and I really like that.

Finally, the OP and ED played this week. We already heard the OP song last week but we got the visuals and they were good. The ED song was fantastic, but….ahaha. Right when I got used to the art style, the ED rubs it in my face that the LN art is much better. :’)

Well, we’re finally going to continue with the main story next week. I can’t wait to see Tanya’s expression when she learns that her comfortable plans are going to be ruined.

She has a good shitty grin.

Well, in a way, Tanya dug her own grave there. From the second episode, X has been pretty passive in his methods. He sent Tanya to the new world once she described the reasons of her lack of faith, and son he sent her to those reasons.

Now, 10 years later, there is still no progress, so he comes back and ask her again. And what does Tanya say? That she is not nearly desperate enough, and that miracles are misunderstandings.

And,once again, X heeds her words, creating a desperate situation, and a miracle that can’t be misuntherstood.

    Still an asshole move, though.

I have to admit that this anime is turning out to be the best I have seen in a while. I hope that it can sustain its quirky premise through the whole cour. I like odd anime and this one fits the bill so far. Recommended.

I think what creeps me out the most about this series are the facial expressions. They are very twisted and distorted.

    Thanks for doing this.
I love these beings with god like powers type stories. Old references. John of Arcadia a Catholic Priest on the show concerning thoughts of god doing bad things. recall something like “If God is like that he does not deserve worship.” And Star Trek New Generation especially first season Picard dealing with the being with god like powers Q. Picard neither granted Q god status nor did Picard talk down to Q like here, did not stop Q from trying to provoke Picard but Picard would not bite.

Of course definition of the word God often comes into play. Being X is a God in that X has power over reincarnation and vast powers in other areas and Being X has been worshiped. Under one definition a being is a God if it has supernatural powers and is worshiped, or is of similar nature to a being that is worshiped. Being X fit’s this definition of God and unfortunately is acting like many still believe the God they worshiped would act.
Another definition of God is a being deserving worship with supernatural powers and X does not fit this definition. And this second definition more liberal or advanced worshippers would agree with atheists on with the dispute being over no proof of existence exists. Questions on would a good God allow things to happen rests on reality of our current existence compared to an afterlife in that to this sort of God our current life is no more than a computer simulator test as to that type of God you do not die when life is over and the afterlife is more real than current life. All unprovable of course.
