Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure: Diamond is Unbreakable Episode 21: Yoshikage Kira Wants to Live A Quiet Life, Part 1

What a beautiful Duwang!

It’s like a picnic, just like this episode.  I’ve been waiting for this since…like, the beginning. This episode just reminded me how much I love Kira as a villain. He’s so normal-looking, and handsome, but he’s really creepy and gross and just plain scary. The way he talks to the severed hand as if he’s speaking to a person, actually buying a ring for the hand, and using the hand to caress a sandwich and then lick it’s dead fingers as he gets off from it.

What a freak.

The episode explains Kira. The title, everything. He literally just wants to live a quiet life. But we learn a little too much about this guy because he basically gave his life story to Shigechi. His name is Kira Yoshikage, he’s 33, single, does well at his work, goes to bed at 11pm, drinks milk before he sleeps, and other weird shit I didn’t want to know about. The reason why he wants to live a quiet life is so he can live with his secret. Putting two and two together, it’s easy to place Kira as the serial killer in the town. He mentioned that for 15 years he was able to keep himself safe from the police with his crimes, so the fact that Shigechi accidentally mistook his sandwich bag which contained the severed hand was driving him crazy. His quiet life was about to end the second Shigechi would open the bag.

We’re watching Kira have a pretty normal day…with his hand. But then Shigechi, Josuke, and Okuyasu appear the two older boys ask to borrow money from Shigechi for their lunch. While at the park, a stray dog grabs Shigechi’s sandwich without him noticing, and when Shigechi turns around to get his lunch he accidentally takes Kira’s hand, where he placed the severed hand because it was starting to rot. And this is when Kira gets into panic mode.

I feel like describing everything else isn’t as exciting. Maybe because I read the manga I already knew what was going to happen, but I know that if I went into this episode blindly I would have been freaking out badly. Nonetheless, it was still very intense! Trying not to have the hand pop out was exciting. Fortunately, or unfortunately, luck was on Kira’s side and interruptions led him to leave with the hand in the bag. Until Shigechi noticed him and questioned him. He uses Harvest to grab at the sandwich bag and pull it, and it rips apart. And the hand flies out, and then it got really serious.

Kira being awfully “calm” about that whole situation, basically telling Shigechi every minuscule detail about him, just shows how creepy he is. Also, the fact that he even has his own Stand. Killer Queen! Which is probably my favorite Stand in all of Jojo, if not my fave, one of my faves. Why, I can’t explain right now. But it’s a muscly kitty, that’s one reason. And it’s pink.

Just who really is Kira Yoshikage? How many crimes has he committed? And how come he’s never been caught? What’s his deal? There’s so many questions related to this guy, and we’re up for a fun ride.

Also I just wanted to mention how awful the animation was this episode. Really, I feel like the art for Part 4 is a little more poor than Part 3. I don’t know, I just thought that Stardust had higher production, and lately for Diamond I’ve been noticing just how bad the animation has been getting, because I feel like it’s been getting steadily worse. I feel like most of the budget for this episode went to Kira’s face because he looked really good. Like, a little too good. Like I can see him in an otome game, except I don’t want him to be in one because he’ll probably just kill me.
