MONEY!!!
Is this filler? Yes. But, it’s still good. I loved these chapters because of how ridiculous these boys are and how funny it was. The animators really nailed the expressions this episode. I didn’t mention this for the hunting episode, but the expressions then were great as well. They’re very expressive this time around all because of the money, and I guess I can’t blame them. IT’S MONEY!
This episode is actually quite simple to summarize. Josuke is at the bank devastated that he only has a couple hundred yen in his account. Joseph had paid him back in full for the stuff he bought for Shizuka, but then he went crazy spending on god knows what, he had thousands on him but knowing his expensive tastes it’s no surprise he spent all his money. He then sees a tiny Stand run out from under a machine and chases after it. Okuyasu soon joins him in chasing after it because it came out from underneath a vending machine, which scared him, and made him spill water all over himself. So he simple got pissed. Then more of the small guys come out, running somewhere. They follow them and see them all gather up and drop a little mountain of coins, with a young boy collecting them. Introducing Shigechi, he’s a middle-school kid who is also a Stand user, and his Stand is Harvest, and he uses them to collect loose change on the ground that people don’t notice. So, he’s not really stealing because he’s not taking them from people’s pockets but from the ground. That’s super smart! Josuke and Oku are amazed, especially when Shigechi tells them that he’s collected over 120,000 yen just from this.
He offers the boys half of the money he accumulated in honor of them becoming friends, because they’re all Stand users. Oku is quick to take it but Josuke has some morals and decides that they should start a business where they can get even more money together, and Josuke shares his idea of finding vouchers and stamps that they can exchange for money. They do, and they get a crap ton of money without any problems. Later on, Okuyasu rummages through lotto tickets Josuke didn’t care for, and, surprise, he found an unclaimed winning ticket. For 5 million yen, and they freak the hell out. Their expressions throughout all of this were such a treat I was laughing the whole time. I also want to give a shoutout to the seiyuus for putting so much emotion and passion into this episode because that was also a big plus.
Shigechi himself is a naive kid. He might have a bit of a mental disability, what with him not having some sense of street smarts or just common sense, like giving half of his money to two people he just met, or he can just be a strange kid. He doesn’t have much confidence in himself, as when Josuke and Oku complimented him he started crying but he doubted himself a lot. But after all the compliments he started to get really full of himself. And then soon greed started taking over. He got more and more reluctant giving half of his money when the total kept going up, and his personality took a huge turn, like when he tried getting a woman to hang out with him. But he thinks it’s unfair that he has to share his money when his Stand did all the work, which is true, but his attitude isn’t right. But, he’s a kid. I commend Josuke for being so mature about his attitude, but we see in the end that Shigechi won’t change. What with winning the lottery, you can imagine how he’ll react when they get the money.
Well, if they get the money. The boys have to play it cool and pretend that they bought the ticket themselves, so we’ll be seeing that in the second part. I say Josuke was mature, but you can obviously see he’s very money hungry. This is what I meant that Josuke has some flaws, and this is one of them. It’s not such a huge flaw, but his greedy money-hungry spoiled side gives him more of a personality. And Okuyasu…well, look at his clothes.
Money is greato.
