It is safe to say this week will be the last episode I cover of B-Project. I no longer understand the direction this show is going. I have never been a fan of character focused episodes- and even more so when it feels really late into the series and you aren’t actually learning that much from them. But most importantly, I am not enjoying this show as much as I wanted to. This started around episode three, but I didn’t think much of it at the time. It kind of sucks to have to drop it since this is my last show I was covering from the Summer 2016 Season, making it the first time I actually drop all my picks from a season without health conditions being the primary reason for it.
While this weeks’ episode granted my wish of focusing on someone like Momotaro , else who has been feeling more like a background character, it didn’t feel like it had any substance. The plot-line for this episode of the whole blade being cursed/possessing the wielder was weird and felt like a decision made on the whim. I think it would have helped if they had dropped little hints earlier on in regards to Momotaro’s supernatural perception. I find for these type of characteristics, you need to have some sort of foreshadowing early on, solely for the sake on an easy follow up. I was also a bit perplexed with the opening of the episode, because I wasn’t entire sure at first who it was going to focus on until the whole supernatural stuff started going down. At first I thought this episode was actually going to be about Mikado, and I kind of wished it was about him since I was more curious about him than Momotaro. It is also worth pointing out how they are actually doing a better job foreshadowing a potential conflict in regards to Mikado. In both last week’s and this week’s episode, we heard from Mikado comment on how just because they are family (referring to Ryuji and his father) doesn’t necessarily mean they have a good relationship. I expect this to be foreshadowing Mikado conflict in regards to his family. I could be that his family doesn’t support his dream to be an idol.
Overall I don’t know how B-Project is going to turn out, but I know I won’t be watching this again anytime soon. Maybe I will check out the ending at a later date, but as of right now, I have no interest in seeing the end of this show.
