The battle to defend Ragna and its Protoculture Ruins was a rough one with quite a bit of casualties and near-death experiences. Winderemere were already one step ahead, making it so the Macross Elysion could not actively participate for a prolonged period of time due to the folding process. However while Windermere were successful on that front, Ernest was able to nail their Sound Wave system, which as result delayed the Wind Song performance. But still, the Winderemere had the upper-hand in this fight, and it certainly did not help the Delta Platoon, nor anyone else when the NUNS (as expected) quickly went ahead to detonate the ruins despite the fact many civilians have yet to evacuate, and those who are fighting within the circumstance of the explosion either got caught in it or almost did. The casualties from that explosion alone included Chuck’s family (not sure if the kids survived, the explosion may have destroyed the house they were in). Everyone on Delta Platoon were almost killed in the crossfire as well, Hayate however experiencing the most damage as he had to eject from his craft which did get destroyed. Fortunately Mirage was close enough to catch him since his emergency flight was too damaged to function.
Walkure were almost killed on the spot as well- except not from the NUN’s explosion, but by Sigar Valens. First impact destroyed their protective barrier, and Mikumo covered Freyja to ensure her safety over her own and was seriously wounded. And Winderemere’s second attempt was foiled by Macross Elysion’s nick of time arrival, just barely managing to body-block the attack.
The NUN’s decision to detonate the ruins ticked me off for many reasons, first off the ruins absorbed the energy and disappeared and the next thing we know some Heritage of Protoculture emerges from sub-space. As it turns out, the NUN were aware of it since their scientists already had information on it. So at the end of the day, it wasn’t so much about preventing Windermere from gaining using/control of the ruins, but rather to obtain data regarding the Heritage of Protoculture- at the price of many lives.
And while we are on the subject of the Heritage of Protoculture, based on what we are seeing right now, I am going to assume Windermere is working to obtain all the parts of the Heritage of Protoculture as they all seem to be put together like a puzzle. Intially I thought (just by the sole appearence of it) what just emerged was going to be one of those god forbid Dimensional Weapons. It does look ominous as hell. But much to my surprise it is another part to build onto Sigar Valens (I think they called it the Starwind Sector… unless they are referring to successfully conquering this sector of the galaxy).
At the end of the day, the Delta Platoon was forced to abandon Ragna and retreat to fight another day. While they have lost this fight, the Winderemere Kingdom have expirence some serious losses as well. King Gramia has finally reached his life end, and have passed away, and now according to King Gramia’s final will, Lord Roid will retain command- but honestly I’m not entirely sure how true that is since his last word was calling out to Heinz. Man the tension between Keith and Roid are going to sky-rocket now, I’m sure.
Freyja’s Rune Rune Flash was pretty awesome, crazy, but awesome. I mean she threw herself right off platform and dove straight into the battlefield where she could be shot down anytime (indeed, Passionate Diving). She did it to try and reach Hayate (which she successfully did), I’m not sure what she did but Freyja’s wind (I’m guessing) was powerful enough to reach the royal family and completely throw them off. I am sure this experience is going to be plaguing Prince Heinz’s mind. (Speaking of the devil, it looks like he was saved by Walkure YET AGAIN because Mikumo could sense as he continued to sing, he was risking his life- the kid ought to be grateful to them for keeping him alive.)
I don’t know about you but I was kind of amused how Keith reacted to Hayate riding his wind. First he was annoyed with the fact Hayate using Messer’s craft (since his was destroyed earlier) and then when he started riding his wind, he was furious, his expression screamed, “NOBODY RIDES MY WIND!”. Hayate did manage to shoot him down, and I’m sure Keith survived but likely was injuries. Nonetheless, it was a close-call for both of them.
The only thing I didn’t enjoy was the ever so obvious Love Triangle tensions. I found both Mirage’s and Freyja’s moments of jealousy to be incredibly distracting and irritating because god damn it- Hayate almost died and yet Freyja gets jealous over him hugging Mirage in thanks for saving his ass as vice versa, Mirage experiences jealousy of how Fryeja and Hayate are interacting (though later she finally comes to an understanding how Freyja’s song improves Hayate’s flying ability). But more than anything, I would really like to see Freyja and Mirage form a good friendship.
Macross’s subbers say next week may have a delay in the release because they’re attending the upcoming Los Angeles Anime Expo. Kawamori Shoji, Macross’s creator, is going too. If anyone’s attending this will be the chance to see the man in person.
*ENVIES EVERYONE WHO’S GOING TO ANIME EXPO*
UGHHHH I’D LOVE TO GO ONE DAY!
Yup I go to their website so I’m aware of the delay for next week. Needless to say I’m fine with waiting (when given a heads up), I’m a pretty patient person. 😉
Thankfully that wretched and pathetic excuse of a company Harmony Gold won’t be attending in this year’s Anime Expo. It wouldn’t be wise of them to come in contact with Kawamori after more than 2 decades of them blocking Macross in the West and other parts of the world.
The kids are still ok defiantly. You see the Ragna NyanNyan plulling into the Island class afterward. The sister may still be alive she can breath water remember so unless she sustained (admitedly likely) leathal damage from the wave she should survive. My personal bet is that she pulls a certain pretty boy with a chip on his shoulder out of the drink.
