Well this was a cute filler episode. We met the invisible baby! Even though this really was a filler episode, we found out that Jotaro got the bow and arrow from Akira’s home. They found out he had been using it for crime with hundreds of millions of yen worth of stuff, so he’s in jail and Jotaro does what he’s best at and scares him. He has the bow and arrow now and he’s going to give it to the Speedwagon Foundation for research to be done on it in hopes of finding some answers on the mystery of Stands and Stand users. But most importantly, this episode served as a way for Josuke and Joseph to become a little closer.
I already made my opinion known about the whole cheating thing, but Joseph and Josuke bonding was really sweet. But of course they have to be put in a weird situation, because this is Jojo’s, of course it has to be weird. While on their way to Josuke’s house to see Tomoko, only see not actually speak with her, they come across an invisible baby girl. Josuke thinks Joseph had lost it after the silly things he did, but it turns out he was right. There’s an invisible baby, and she herself is the Stand user and she can make herself invisible. Joseph guessed it’s probably from stress or anxiety from being separated from her mother and that’s why she’s invisible. They both don’t really know what to do but are just amazed at what’s presented in front of them. She seemed to be doing alright considering the fact we don’t know how long she was separated from her mother. She was crawling on the ground, who knows how long she went without food, but she was laughing and crying healthily. It wasn’t until she left an invisible surprise in Joseph’s hand that they realized she needed diapers and other baby things.
They go to a store and Josuke makes Joseph go in and buy the stuff because he didn’t want to make it look like he had knocked a girl up. HAHA. So since Joseph doesn’t have yen with him, Josuke gives him his credit card to borrow. That’s right, a fucking 16 year old has his own credit card. All the Jojos so far have been stinking rich. Jonathan, obviously. Joseph came from a good family, and he also made himself crazy rich with his real estate business. And Jotaro’s father was a famous musician, and his mother being Joseph’s daughter wouldn’t be penniless. And he wore 20,000 yen pants or something Dio ripped. Josuke and his mom don’t seem extremely rich but they’re well off. We’ll actually be getting an episode or two related to Josuke getting big bucks later on.
ANYWAY. Joseph goes into the store and doesn’t know what the hell he’s doing. Being very old, he doesn’t think as fast as he did before. Also, he hasn’t bought baby stuff since Holly was a baby. And that was probably in…the 1940’s? Around 1940, or maybe even a couple years earlier. So that’s about 60 years of not having to deal with babies, so of course the times have changed and now there are lots more specific baby things like different style of diapers and bottles with their own cute designs. So he just buys everything and pays 130,000 yen, which is about over 1000 dollars. Bye bye Josuke’s money. That’s a lot of money for a teenager. Probably all goes to super strong hair gel. :/
So they wrap the baby up in her diaper and clothes and in a weird way, she looks cute. But to make her look less creepy, Joseph bought makeup to paint her face (and he’s pretty good at it for an old guy). He even bought sunglasses to cover her invisible eyes. She was looking all cute and stuff until she made herself completely invisible, along with Joseph’s hands. They guessed she didn’t want to be touched by someone unfamiliar to her and it got so bad that things she touched around her would go invisible. This led to her stroller looking funny and Joseph protecting her from a lit cigarette, which acidentally pushed the stroller down the hill.
I always found it interesting that the way these two bonded was with a baby. Like, Joseph couldn’t be there to take care of Josuke as a baby, but he’s there to take care of another baby? Hm. Well, when the baby fell in the lake, Josuke dove in to look for her, and in his mind he was angry at Joseph for doing something stupid. But Joseph had actually done something smart and used his blood to paint the water, and they’d be able to find the baby when the blood would turn invisible. And lukcily, they did find her safe and sound. We see later that Joseph had her with him in Jotaro’s hotel room. The anime doesn’t tell us this, and the manga didn’t outright say it in the story, but Joseph later calls the baby girl Shizuka Joestar. c:
Thankfully no casualties, except Josuke’s bank account. Little Shizuka joins the Stand Squad. It was very sweet to see Joseph and Josuke interact together. Of course things were still awkward, and he outright told him that he’d be calling him Mr. Joestar, and not Dad. Which is understandable, they just met. But hopefully this episode strengthened their bond and Josuke can at least say Dad or Pops once. Make this visit a positive one.
Next week, what everyone has been waiting for other than the Tonio episode. Trash can…
Next week, the manga writer self write himself into the story (sort of, he did mention that of all of the powers in JoJo, the one from next week is the one he would like to have).
