These were honestly my favorite chapters of the manga because they were just so gross and weird but so funny. It’s very Jojo-like. I can take seeing someone’s intestines shoot out from their belly from eating cooked lamb and think “Ah, okay.” I can take seeing a character scratch off so much of their dead skin that it’ll create a giant ball thing that a chef will nonchalantly take away on his nice plates, and I’ll think “Ah, yes, of course.” Though I think that now because I’ve read more of the manga and honestly this is one of the more normal stuff that happens, even though when I had read this part in the manga for the first time it was weird as hell. But I feel like I’m getting desensitized to all the weirdness from the older parts of the manga. When you read more Jojo it just…does that to you.
Anyway! Italian food! Before Josuke and Okuyasu visit Keicho’s grave, Okuyasu mentions he’s hungry and wants to stop by a place to eat. It’s then he sees a sign of a new Italian restaurant that opened up. But it’s weird because it’s located right by the cemetery so people probably don’t go there much. But Okuyasu wants to check it out and they go out on a dinner date. Then they meet the chef, Tonio. A man born and bred in Naples, Italy he’s traveled around the world to make his food better and now he’s settled in Morioh. He’s polite, friendly, and he loves to cook. Except there’s no menu, which the boys found odd. But Tonio explains he makes what the customer wants, and then he examines Okuyasu. And just by looking at him he knows that he had diarrhea the night before, has cavities, and insomnia, and a stiff shoulder. So he’s a doctor and a chef?
This whole episode was Tonio making a four-course meal of different foods that made Okuyasu have weird side effects. Even the water. It was special water from Mt. Kilimanjaro (how did he even get that?) that made him cry a river of tears literally and made his eyes shrivel up. But then after that, Okuyasu felt completely refreshed like he had a full night’s sleep. Then it was the appetizer that made him scratch off the dead skin from his shoulder that turned into a softball (ew), then the spaghetti that made his two cavity teeth fall out and new teeth grew in even though permanent teeth can’t do that. And then his guts exploded or something. And of course because this is Araki we’re talking about, there has to be a dog involved here getting brutally hurt.
Josuke from the beginning knew the place was weird. From Okuyasu having weird side effects and Tonio making weird faces, he stopped Okuyasu at the spaghetti and punched it and returned the ingredients to what they once were, and that’s when he sees little floating tomato things with faces. Tonio is a Stand user! What Hazamada said about Stand users being attracted to each other wasn’t just talk, it seems to be true because Tonio is a Stand user just like them. Josuke goes into the kitchen to find Tonio and confront him, but he hears a weird munching sound. He looks over to see a little puppy in a cage eating lamb that Tonio cooked, with Tonio looking over it. Josuke makes a noise and Tonio turns around to see him, this time he’s extremely angry. Then Okuyasu can’t control himself and just gorges out on the food in the kitchen, then his guts explode. The same happened to the puppy. Josuke gets distracted, and it looks like Tonio is about to smash him with something, but he just had…soap.
Turns out, Tonio was REALLY mad at Josuke because he came into the kitchen without washing his hands. And germs are a kitchen’s worse enemy. As for his Stand, it’s just a Stand that heals people’s ailments in his food. So he genuinely made food for Okuyasu to make him better, he wasn’t trying to kill him or anything. Like any chef, he wants to make people happy. Also, after Oku’s guts exploded he was alright. And, plot twist, for once Tonio’s puppy was also okay. The lamb was supposed to help with the upset stomach, and he gave some to the dog because it also had a bad tummy. So in the end, everything was okay. Except Josuke got scolded by Tonio and had to clean the kitchen while Okuyasu ate dessert.
Really, this episode was filler, it didn’t have to do with anything, but it was fun filler. Okuyasu is such a silly guy and his expressions were perfect, and I think that made me love the episode/chapters the most, because Okuyasu always makes me laugh. What a cute. Also, Tonio is just a good guy that wants to make people happy with his food like any other chef. I mean, look at him in the opening. He’s dancing and smiling with a tray of food. He just needs to work on not making scary expressions…and not throwing knives at people too. Good filler, but we got a cliffhanger in the end! A Speedwagon member met with Jotaro and gave him a message that Joseph is going to arrive! That’s right, Joseph Joestar. And he’s hella old. Things are going to get exciting! Very greato! ヽ( ・∀・)ノ
Antonio (Tonio) Trussardi’s backstory have him being disowned by his father (Trussardi is his mother’s maiden name) for being a chef. His younger brother inherits the family fortune, and more importantly, debt. In one of the backstory, he revealed that he came to Japan in search of something to cure his lover that not even his skill was able to. With the aid of one of the character to be introduced in the next next story arc, he succeeded.
Meanwhile, his brother inherits basically a heavily indebted house with no real way of payback, join the mob. With his Stand (think of a reverse Pearl Jam) rose up in the syndicate’s rank to take over his own crew…
WHOA REALLY? I had no idea. I do remember seeing people talk about Tonio with a certain someone, but I didn’t know what he had to do with him. How interesting, thanks for sharing!
