Freyja had to make a difficult decision today, but after everything she has gone through, her convictions made it an easy choice. Alongside doing so she also was able to identify why she sings, why does she want to perform, who is she performing for. Upset by the war and the casualties involved, Freyja just wants to put it to an end and help everyone smile again. My favourite part (beside the Apples outcry) was how Freyja’s voice was able to reach Prince Heinz. It was probably thanks to the ruins amplifying it, but it truly was a beautiful moment. Actually to be perfectly honest with you, when Freyja started singing I almost cried.
As result to having been baited into a trap, both Mirage and (especially) Hayate went through a lot of beating. The two of them tried to execute an escape opportunity but the aerial knights were far more experienced and seasoned soldiers than they are, and spoiled their plan leading to further beatings. Freyja who was left untouched demanded that they attack her and not her friends when she is the problem. When they start explaining how she abandoned her homeland and their liberation goals, yet how does Freyja respond? “DON’T WASTE FOOD LIKE THIS!” (referring to the Winderemere apples). It was a priceless moment because not only it’s not something you would expect to hear in this situation, but at the same time: this is Freyja. You don’t mess with her favorite delicacy.
Another surprise (because it was unexpected) was to see Lord Roid jump in front of Freyja when Keith was about to cut her down. Lord Roid had given them specific orders to simply capture and retreat, but as we all know already, the knights are rebels and let their fury take priority over their assigned missions. Lord Roid wants to continue studying/observing Walkure and how they respond with the ruins, but the question is: For what purpose?
Actually, speaking of which, there’s another thing that I have been wondering about, and I’m not sure if we will ever get an answer: Where did Prince Heinz learn that ominous wind song? What is the true history behind the legendary Wind Singer? We learned that the song is colorless, dark and gloomy. It doesn’t exactly sound like a happy song either, maybe that would change though if Freyja or Mikumo sang it…
The ruins played a significant role in this episode, revealing what it is capable of. So here are a couple of things we discovered:
i) The Ruins amplify the songs, making it so anyone within the surrounding area of the ruins could hear Prince Heinz’ ominous song, when normally they can’t. This also contributed to how Freyja’s song reached as far as her homeland where Prince Heinz and the King both could hear it. I don’t know if it reached any other planet, but I assuming it had reached them because was holding her homeland in her heart when she was singing.
ii) The Ruins disturbs both the Wind and the Fold Waves.
iii) The Ruins are supposedly returning to life. That’s all we know right now, but it will be interesting what they mean by that… But most importantly, how will this discovery influence Roid’s research and his opinion of Walkure. Actually before that, we need to understand why they hate Walkure and their songs first.
Hayate’s necklace responded to Freyja’s song allowing him to resonate with Freyja’s song and ride the wind. It was pretty fun to watch, but man, I lost it when Arad suddenly said “He would be proud of you if you saw him”. OH MY FREAKING GOD, WAS HAYATE’S FAMILY PART OF THE DELTA PLATOON AT SOME POINT? Like we know NOTHING about Hayate’s family yet it appears Arad knows quite a bit. Man I am dying to know Hayate’s history, his past too is shrouded in mystery.
And finally, poor Messer had it rough. You thought Hayate getting his ass beaten was bad, well Messer is extremely vulnerable to the Var Syndrome. He nearly lost it today, even with Walkure singing, and he continues to feel the effects even after returning to their base. Mirage and Hayate are the ones who found him in this condition, but I would imagine probably they are the only ones who were out of the loop to begin with. If not, then hopefully there will be a way for Messer to get treated properly because it is strange how it keeps on sticking with him. He has incredible mental fortitude to resist it though, I don’t know how he is able to do it, but the White Knight Keith noticed it when he was fighting him.
