“You can become a Hero”
On the same rooftop where we left Deku and All Might last week we discover All Might’s secret: All Might’s super hero mode isn’t his true form. Because of a wound he got from a fight with a bad guy, All might can only take his super hero form for 3 hours a day. This is why he can’t encourage Deku to pursue his dream of becoming a hero since it’s a dangerous. Heroes fight vilains with powers and even if All Might was super strong he was almost defeated by this vilain who left this mark on his body, affecting his capacities. That’s why he can’t encourage Deku and says that yes, he can be a hero without a quirk. All Might acknowledges that Midoriya’s intentions are remarquable but they aren’t realistic.
In the meantime, the jelly monster that All Might trapped into a coke bottle was released not intentionally by Bakugou, who became the next victim of the jelly monster. Indeed, the monster is trying to take possession of him but since Bakugou is strong (and awesome) he’s no giving up, and that’s actually what is so great about Bakugou, he’s not giving up. NEVER!
So All might and Deku arrive at the scene where a lot of heroes are fighting against the monster. However they do not have enough power nor the right quirks so everyone is waiting for a stronger hero to come and rescue Bakugou. However, since All Might used his power to capture the monster in the previous episode, he cannot transform again and save the day. Midoriya is aware of that and thinks that if this situation is happening right now, its his fault since he was the one grabbing All Might’s leg, causing the coke bottle’s loss and was also the first victim of the jelly monster.
The crowd who came to see the fight is wondering why All Might is not doing anything and isn’t showing up. Of course, All Might in his true from is watching the scene in the crowd, unable to do anything because of his power restriction. Hearing people asking for his help makes him think he’s pathetic. He is here, powerless, unable to save someone when its his duty as an hero. He’s probably thinking that he has no right to be called an hero if he cannot save someone.
But the moment Midoriya sees that it is Bakugou who is trapped in the monster, he starts running towards him. Without realizing what he’s doing, that he’s risking his life here, he runs to save his friend. He actually says it to Bakugou: he acted because at that moment because Bakugou looked like he needed some help. And thus, he proves that he has all the qualities required to be a true hero, expect having a quirk…
Seeing Deku going to save his friend without thinking of the consequences, reminds All Might that heroes are risking their life to save people. At that time both All Might and Deku were powerless but Deku did not hesitate to risk his life fighting that monster. All Might then realizes that he wasn’t following what he was saying to Deku earlier: “pros are risking their life, being a hero is dangerous thus you cannot be one”. He wasn’t following his own words by not doing anything, so he finds the strength to transform again and even if he’s spiting blood, he keeps on fighting, kills the monster and saves both Bakugou and Deku.
Later that day, Bakugou stops Deku on his way to go home to tell him that he did not ask for his help, that Deku doesn’t have a quirk so he shouldn’t act tough and risks his life. But the most interesting thing remains: “Don’t look down on me”.
I do think that’s one of the most interesting things about Bakugou. When everyone is looking down on Deku and thinks he cannot do anything, Bakugou is aware of Deku’s true powers and is afraid of him. Even if he says the contrary, I do believe that Bakugou is one of the few characters that, since the beginning, knew that Deku could become a Hero. When Deku’s mother was crying and apologizing to her son she did not think a single time that her son could become a hero, whereas Bakugou knew it and started bullying him and saying all those horrible things to make sure Midoriya wouldn’t outdone him. Of course, Bakugou knowing Deku’s real potential doesn’t make him less a dick. Him bullying Deku is wrong and wanting to keep him down is also wrong in all the possible ways. But Bakugou remains an interesting character. Sorry, it’s only episode 2 and I just wrote an entire paragraph on why Bakugou is awesome… *AHEM*
So after Bakugou leaves, All Might arrives and tells Deku that it was thanks to him if he was able to act. Because he reminded him what a true hero is. Thus, All Might changed his mind, now he thinks Deku can become a hero and he’s going to help him.
How can you not root for Deku? He’s just the sweetest cinnamon roll ever. The part when he remembered his mom’s words and started crying got me again. I mean… damm…I almost cried again…
So far the adaptation is doing great, although they’ve only adapted the first chapter of the manga I find the pacing quite slow but still great. All Might’s true form is greatly animated and the passages when he spits blood always made me laugh. Next time we’ll see Deku working out in order to inherit All Might’s power: One for All.
Well again, Deku is going to show us that his willpower is stronger than everything. Also, the rhythm seems to speed up a bit, so we’ll have more than one chapter adapted every one episode, which is great!
Oh!
Did I tell you that Bakugou is my favorite character?
I think you’ve probably guessed it by now…
Sorry for being a Fan Girl.
I’ll try to contain myself next time.
Maybe…
I too love Bakugou. He’s my favorite uptight asshole. Also to be fair to the manga the first chapter is quite long, and it’s not impossible Horikoshi added more pages in the manga volume, which he has been known to do.
Aha I’m glad I’m not the only one in the “Bakugou Appreciation Society”. Long live the Shitlord!
