Eva: Nah, I like shoujo but this does not perk my interest, in fact it’s sparks the opposite.
Vantage: I’m not really into shoujo. The visuals also look slightly dated.
Berry: So it’s about a girl going through puberty? Well it’s certainly unique, I’ll give it that, though I’m not sure it’s something I’d watch.
Nikolita: “The story begins with Hanabi, a sixth-grade girl who is neither an adult nor a child.” No, no I’m pretty sure 12 qualifies as a child. I get that the main character’s supposed to be hitting puberty and all that, but a synopsis like that just makes me cringe. Plus the artwork makes them look way younger than 12. CCS anyone?
Charibo: Wait… What?! No… I don’t want to see that… Just.. gnnnnngggnn.. I can’t explain how wrong this thing sounds to me…
Oki: I literally cannot express to you how much this disturbs me as an anime. It doesn’t feel innocent, it feels like the robbery of innocence.

Eva: Oh no, it looks so cute… But I never got into any of its earlier seasons. Whoops.
Vantage: I’ve never seen Aikatsu, and don’t plan to any time soon.

Nikolita: Cute, but nope.
Charibo: Sadly, I have no interest in cute things like this show.

Sakura immediately becomes interested in motorcycles, and she and Onsa join the motorcycle club at the school. Then, Sakura sets out to get her license.
Trailer: PV 1 | PV 2

Eva: It is refreshing to see a different club theme for an exchange! I will give it a whirl, but I hardly expect myself to pick it up.
Vantage: If only this was a sports shounen about motorcycle racing. Now that would have been really cool.
Berry: So this sounded cool as shit, just a bunch of girls riding motorcycles all hardcore and shit…but the PV is the complete opposite of what I imagined. Boo.
Nikolita: Huzzah, a summary I haven’t heard before. It’s just too bad I have little interest in motorcycles.
Charibo: Slightly too moe for Charibo, plz put more guys with abs on big huge manly bikes and I’ll probably watch it.
Oki: I just. . .but bikes..moe bikes. . .mopeds…is Macklemore coming?

Nikolita: Meh.

Berry: I never finished Crystal so can’t watch this. But let me tell you the change in the artstyle is WONDERFUL. The new art style looks a million times better than the other one.

Eva: This manga series has only started relatively recently, so while there is a lot of hype around it, I would tread cautiously because of how soon it got an adaption.
Vantage: All signs point to this being the ‘next big shounen’. It’s been a long time coming – the last Shounen Jump manga to be adapted was Shokugeki no Soma, and that wasn’t exactly traditional mainstream material not least of all due to the excessive fanservice. This is definitely one to watch next season.
Berry: A lot of hype over this, so I’m keeping my eye out for this.
Nikolita: So kinda like the anime where young girls strive to become idols? No thanks.

Eva: Yesssss, I will definitely be watching this!!!!
Vantage: Bones is quite good with mystery stuff, and I’ve enjoyed a lot of what they’ve put out in recent years. But they also have Boku no Hero Academia next season, and I wonder if they might be stretching their resources a little too thin to accommodate a solid adaptation of both series.
Berry: A lot of hype over this manga too, and reading the synopsis and watching the PV I can see why and this seems right up my alley.
Nikolita: I might watch this.
Charibo: Composed by more guys than girls, mystery and action. DING DONG WE HAVE A WINNER, I’ll watch that. I heard it’s going to be a two court show though… AAAAAHHH I Don’t know if I even want to review it…

As ever though, I have no idea whether this is bloggable – and despite how suspiciously clean the animation and character designs seem to be, it’s not reassuring that the Tsukihime director is in charge of this.
Berry: It seems so sweet and relaxing, and it’s about witches! So I’m up for it.

In retrospect, throwing capital at it before the first season even aired in the form of a Vita game, two seasons and a ton of marketing really wasn’t the right thing for Aniplex to do, no matter how much they thought it was going to be the next SAO. It’s also too bad Miss ‘I’m too good for character songs’ won’t be doing the ED again, Waiting in the Rain was awesome.

Vantage: I’ve never played the games, but this adaptation will be in good hands with A-1. I also have a suspicion that they’ve romanticized criminal trials just like how Suits is an unrealistic representation of life as an actual commercial lawyer.

Vantage: A show about wounds with Okada Mari? Tears, suffering and feels incoming. You have been warned.
Berry: People are wondering whether this’ll be the next Kill la Kill or Ninja Slayer. I didn’t watch Ninja Slayer but I’ve heard…things. I don’t know, this looks like it’ll be good. Please!
Nikolita: It’s an interesting summary, yet odd at the same time. Sharing one’s wounds with others? I can see that working if someone gets cut or slashed or something, but the ramifications of more serious injuries make me shudder. Pass.
Charibo: Trigger is bae. I’ll check this out but I don’t think I’ll review it.

Eva: P.A. Works, given your recent track record, I can’t get hyped for this. I will watch the first episode to give it a shot, but I am not expecting anything amazing.
Vantage: I hate myself for signing up for this. I fucking hate myself. Clearly I’ve learnt nothing at all. I’ve been burned more than anyone else by P.A. Works in the last few years, and yet I’m still being drawn in by the cute girls, the mecha and the fact that Okamura is directing. Also if it’s an anniversary project they’ll do their best, right? R-right?
Berry: After Charlotte and Glasslip, I’ve given up on trusting P.A. Works originals. In the back of my mind I’m thinking, no, they made Shirobako they can’t be all bad. But Haruchika ended up being crap (which isn’t even an original), so…nuh uh. Also, it’s mecha. NO.

Eva: It looks cute, but I will probably never get around to watch it.
Vantage: For some reason this reminds me of Noucome, and that was just as hilarious as Konosuba. Also there are so many qt3.14s and Silver Link tends to be good at this sort of shit.
Berry: I don’t know, they look pretty happy to me.
Nikolita: Too cutesy.
Charibo: No, too Moe for me.

Overall Thoughts
Eva: Considering how many titles are airing in this season alone, I am very surprised how few of the titles are pulling me in this season. From the surface, the season feels a bit bland to me with the exception of the handful of potientially strong titles the hype is revolving around. Right now Bungou Stray Dogs, Joker Game, Kiznaiver, Macross Delta are the ones I have my sights set on. But on the otherhand, I am not entirely sure if they are titles I will be up to covering, depends on how it plays out. I will be going into this season with low expectations and but otherwise, I might only pick up one or two shows.
Vantage: A huge season, but it feels like quantity over quality so far. I’m pleased that there’s lots of slice-of-life shows and CGDCT, the best of which will probably be Flying Witch and Hai-Furi. I’d be most interested in picking those two up, although rest assured I will be watching as many of them as I can. As for the powerhouse shows, watch out for Boku no Hero Academia, Mayoiga and maybe Kiznaiver, as well as Sakamoto desu ga? being a surprise favourite (although it won’t be much of a surprise when all the manga readers start singing its praises in the run-up to its first episode). I’ll actually be even more busy next season than I have been this season, so I will continue my recent trend of not blogging as much as I used to – I know I signed up for quite a few, but realistically I’ll only really be after Re:Zero and Kuromukuro (for some strange masochistic reason) if we assume Flying Witch and them lot aren’t bloggable, although we might actually get a plot out of one or two of them. I should have more breathing space in the summer season, just in time for Rewrite!
Berry: There’s A LOT of heavy hitters this season. All in all, I think this season looks fantastic. Because, um, Jojo. Duh. Also there’s a lot of big names here that all look really good, with other stuff that also look like they could be great. I would have signed myself up for more shows, but I’ve been noticing that my school work has been getting more hectic and reviewing shows have been a little tough so I think I’m going to cut back. I still have Assassination Classroom as a leftover, and I know the shows I’m going to review this season for sure are Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure: Diamond is Unbreakable and Show by Rock!! Season 2. I really would like to review Bungou Stray Dogs, Mayoiga, and Magi, but I’m not too sure. I could at least pick up one more show than the three I’m planning. But even though I don’t think I’m going to be reviewing too many shows, I know I’m going to be watching a lot of shows here. Hoping Spring season will deliver!
Nikolita: I was surprised with how many shows caught my attention this season. There’s nothing that I’m falling over excited for (that’ll be summer season), but Endride look especially interesting. I also still have Nijiiro Days with Charibo, so I’m hoping that picking up another short won’t be too heavy a review schedule for me. I’m excited to see how the spring season will pan out!
Charibo: Oh well, there’s so many interesting shows this season! Aside from the usual moe/ magic ecchi school battle shit I think I will probably watch everything. However, I do not have a lot of time on my hands this season because of finals, yeeeeeeeeeh. But I think I ‘ll review Boku Hero no Academia and Koutetsujou no Kabaneri for sure and like Nico said, I still have Nijiiro Days with her. Mayoiga comes in third position, I’m a sucker for mysteries. So that’s probably the last show that I will cover this season… But there’s Sakamoto desu ga too… aaaaaaaaaahnnnn… He’s too fabulous too miss… DAMMIT U SCHOOL!
Oki: This season is probably the most interesting in terms of potential! There are so many good things to look at and to be invested in. Unfortunately given that this season falls in the final month of my semester it means I will be contenting with finals. What this means is I can only continue to cover the shows that are incredibly high interest are very good to me, otherwise I risk being unable to continue reviewing. Here’s hoping the best shows get some proper coverage!
About that aikatsu stars thing (for the two of you that actually care) it is a reboot of the series. This is due to plummeting ratings and poor arcade game plays.
LOTS of cute girls doing cute things and slice of life stuff, which I am all in for. A few other things that caught my eye… some of which turned out to be by Okada Mari so I’m going to hide under my blankets until the evil one goes away.
Show By Rock!! 2,,,??! That… wait… what?! Why did they even have Cyan go back home, then?! She could have just stayed with Retoree this whole time! Stop interfering in the proper sailing of my ship! *shakes fist* 😛
For less peaceful series, there’s that Zero Kara whateverthehelltherrestofthistitleis series. It might be worth a look. And maybe one of two other things. Maybe.
Shingeki no Bahamut: Manaria Friends is no longer airing in Spring 2016, It has been delayed until further notice.
https://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news/2016-03-08/rage-of-bahamut-manaria-friends-anime-announces-indefinite-delay-removes-staff-listing/.99542
Thanks for the update, I missed that article, I’ll remove it from the list.
I’m so sad…there’s almost nothing I care to watch…I guess Sakamoto Desu Ga? is on top for me, but a single comedy isn’t enough to sustain me for a whole season…damn it all…if you had to milk it, why couldn’t you animate Urakata Hakuouki instead, Deen? Why not Yona S2 instead, Pierrot? Or a Yellow Dragon MOVIE, because that’s what he deserves!?!! *grumble grumble*
I’m just so sad. WHEN WILL MOB BE READY!? *Fervently rereads chapters* AUGH!!!
Urakata Hakuoki…is that a spinoff of the main game? What does it focus on?
I do know of a spinoff prequel called Toki no Kizuna ( Bond of 12 Demons), which is set in 1600s Japan and focuses on the ancestors of the oni characters from the main game.
Awe, now I want the ancestor anime too…but yeah, I haven’t played it, but Urakata features a new heroine and tells the story of the Ishin Shishi instead (although there’s no Kenshin lol) – I haven’t played it, but seeing as it answers a few questions about the original story (how the ochimizu got started etc.) and introduces some appealing characters, I think an adaption would be worth it. The heroine is supposedly more proactive, which would be…different.
The opening theme: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dynfBdKaxR8
What I do like I how the ancestor game designs the ancestor oni characters’ oni forms to be more majestic and ethereal compared to the oni of the main game…it kinda hints at how far their bloodline has thinned over the centuries.

I couldn’t comment much here, but guess I’ll try to give some
– Aikatsu Star – Looks like the cause of it’s reboots because of falling sales or so I’d read in many forum. Although it’s understandable though, since many people was hoping Ichigo would be come back instead of Akari take the spotlight. And I think in turn it caused fallen rating because Ichigo had less screen time (I’d read some complain about that in Youtube), and therefore less sales (Although those 2 conditions also had some connection with Japanese economy decline though). Finally, I think the main reason was probably because people already bored with Starlight Academy 4 year straight imo (I mean people who watched Aikatsu routinely must be bored with the uniform). So, I think it was indeed need some refreshment, and hopefully the staff will be more creative, since Aikatsu could only focused on card idol thing and therefore it might be hard to keep the sales stable imo. Oh, to all of the blogger here all of you didn’t need to force yourself to watch over 160 episode of Aikatsu, since all of them only contained slice of life for idol, and concert at the end of each episode.
– Sailor Moon – I remember that I recommended kokoda in Precure LJ to not watch this, and she said that my advice was exactly the same she give to her friend. Although kokoda said it was more to the staff, I was more going to the action scene which compared to PreCure was quite lame (Okay, I knew it’s suppose to be reboot and Sailor Moon didn’t had many physical fight in the past. But I think the staff could make more chance for all of the Sailor to fight physically instead of just blast the enemy lackey). Oh, for the staff, event hough they change the character design this year (The character design was also design character for Suite Precure and Doki Doki Precure) and had Sayaka Oohara voiced Neptune, the writer (Kobayashi Yuuji) was still major problem, because I remember back in Precure LJ kokoda always criticize his work. I kinda agree with her, especially in regard episode 42 of Suite Precure, which kokoda said it was very terrible. Just my opinion here, and if oki want to cover it that’s fine (By the way, kragito gave up to cover it back at episode 22 iirc). For the design, maybe the designer using same style back in Doki Doki Precure.
– Macross Delta – I watched it back at New Year, and I kind of wonder if they will going Symphogear route since the idols was running at the battlefield. Just rewatched it, and I think the idol here will cast some kind of debuff to enemy (According to synopsis, the enemy was possessed people after hearing some kind of song (Sounds like Blood+)) or casting the barrier to civilian, while the pilot was obviously cut or beat the enemy physically. From the character introduction, I would guess that each idol had paired with the idol and the pair would work extremely well with each other. Compared to old Macross, I think group idol concept was had some connection to AKB 0048 (Well, same creator) and the reason I said it will be going Symphogear route was because magical girl like transformation sequence (Which already caused some Youtube and MAL user it was ruined Macross momemt iirc). Well, I’ll read your review, eva.
– Phoenix Wright – I hope fan subber will use localized name, because for people outside Japan who couldn’t read Japan already grew up to liking localized name (Although I knew it may cause some confusion though, but if the movie could do that, why not anime). Just hope that if we want that we won’t see any new character though (Otherwise it’ll be pain for fan subber to thinking localized name in short time). By the way for small trivia Naruhodou Ryouichi was Phoenix Wright (Naruhodou mean I see in Japan), Ayasato Chihiro was Mia Fey, Ayasato Mayi was Maya Fey, and Itonokogiri Keisuke was Dick Gumshoe. And speaking of localization, actually last Edgeworth game was not translated officially, instead it was translated by fan, and the translator did a good job to localize the name of new characters imo.
– Haifuri – Since there was no Gochiusa and Kinmoza season 3 this time, maybe I’ll comment if vantage cover this. Looks like light iyashikei, and I think I’ll watch it weekly. Oh interestingly it also remind me of Nagi no Asukara before I saw your comment, charibo. About mermaid, can’t comment much yet, but from the premise looks like ARIA, except instead at Mars, it was on Japan 100 year in the future with many country got dorwned.
– Wagamama High Spec – I only know that Sekai will release translated VN this year, and looks like it’ll be standard moege. Other than synopsis and seiyuu info at VNDB, not much info. Easier answer would be just look at it later.
– Re:Zero Kara Hajimeru Isekai Seikatsu – Actually I just made a commentary here because of the seiyuu, not because of the anime premise itself or the story behind it. Although if vantage said that Rie Takahashi and Satomi Arai were his personal favorite, let me tell him something. Both of these had role in Mahou Tsukai Precure (Takahashi as Mirai/Cure Miracle, while Arai was playing Crystal Ball), so vantage may watch Precure this season if he just want to watch their performance though. By the way, Takahashi just won Best New Female Seiyuu Award. Oh by the way, Takahashi as Mirai had different voice from what I remembered when she was played Miki back in Gakkou Gurashi (Granted the situation was very different though), and speaking about Gakkou Gurashi, Minase Inori played as main girl (Takeya Yuki) which make episode 11 of Gochiusa season 2 more funny (I’m talking about Chino got franked in regard of zombie, and Gakkou Gurashi as we know also deal with zombie. Minase also voice Chino by the way).
I think that’s all for the comment about anime.
About aikatsu stars: it actually because akari has no chemistry with the other two. The conversations are ultimately one sided and boring. Don’t get me wrong they are interesting characters but i would like something more than “bla bla bla” “sure” “yhea”.
Another reason is that pripara is over taking it in sales. This is the reason that the arcade game has a similar system to pripara.
Because of how child orientated franchises work this would mean that they decided to do this mid season 3.
Oh, I see. Ahaha…Pripara. I’m way behind on that, and it keeps getting more seasons. Then I guess this would be the perfect chance for me to get into Aikatsu then as I’ve been thinking about it, though I always tend to have a problem with keeping up with these kinds of shows aimed at children, since I’m not used to them. *glances at Go! Princess Precure*
Considering aikatsu has only stopped airing 3 or 4 times (and all of those time was for just a week or two), i would not blame you.
Oh by the way here is the pv:
Haifuri – It does remind me a little of Aria, although it feels more like a school-based CGDCT at the moment. It’s hard to tell how much sea will actually be involved until the first episode airs given the limited info we can gather from the PV, and since it’s original there’s a lot of creative freedom. Amanchu! in the summer will hit a lot closer home to Aria, in more ways than one.
Wagamama High Spec – Now that I look at the promo poster, the character designs completely scream galge. I might play the VN if I end up liking the adaptation, it’s what I’m going to do for Aokana once the patch is (reportedly) out in October 2016.
Re:Zero – You guys are always trying to get me to watch Precure, hahaha! One day I will. Takahashi deserves it, she’s definitely going places. I didn’t take note of her as Mii-kun, but I did remember her as Futafuta and it dawned on me about halfway through the season that alongside Megumin she also played YES-chan in Bahamut. Minase’s most notable role is probably Chino (and she uses the same voice for Nekone in Utawarerumono) but the reason I like her is because of her incredible Carol in Symphogear.
Maybe lol. But if you really want to watch PreCure, I think just start from the recent one (Go Princess) should be fine, and you really didn’t need to dig all 11 previous seasons imo. Well, it’s up to you.
Anyway, speaking about VN, I’d had good and bad news. The bad news is that apparently Aokana translation was got pushed to around October 2016 because the script was lost or something like that. It suck I know, but that’s not much we could do anyway other than wait.
The good news, Tokyo Babel will be released at March 31st, and the demo is already out. Sorry to spam a link beforehand, but if you interested to played it, download the demo here http://blog.mangagamer.org/2016/03/18/tokyo-babel-demo-now-available-for-download/ (The size was surprisingly big at 2.1 GB). The premise was one man and 3 girls (2 of 3 girls are not human. They were devil and angel) was go to the heaven in order to prevent apocalypse or so according to the synopsis. Although the main draw is that your Miyuki Sawashiro will voiced the devil girl (Lilith) there though. Either way, I think it’s quite good VN and it’s accepted well enough at Fuwanovel.
Oh, as for the anime you may keep Ace Attorney in your watch list by the way, because I’d just find out that Aoi Yuuki (Yes, your didn’t read it wrong) will voiced Ayasato Mayoi/Maya Fey in upcoming Ace Attorney anime. Although I’ll just watch it just to see if they will use localized name or Japanese name for the sub though.
For Aikatsu Star, I’m ABSOLUTELY SURE that not only me that recognize the famous 4 person idol group looks like Ichigo, Aoi, Ran, and Kokone. In this case, hopefully Aikatsu ready to accept the backlash for making senior idol looks like the beloved idol from season 1.
I think that’s all for now.
I doubt I’ll get round to Aokana before around October anyway, so I’m not too disappointed over the delay. I’ve heard good things about Tokyo Babel, I’ll definitely put it on my list of VNs to eventually read! Sawashiro is definitely a huge draw for me (I’ve recently gotten my fill of her as Camilla in Fire Emblem Fates though) but VNDB also reveals quite a few other strong VAs including Kamiya Hiroshi, Kayano Ai and Itou Kanae. I haven’t heard much HanaKana this year so she’ll be a nice familiar face (or voice) too.
I wasn’t planning to watch Ace Attorney since I’m not familiar with the games, but thanks for letting me know it’s got Aoi. If she has a major role I’d watch it just for her sake even if I’d otherwise be not interested.
The source mangas for Age 12 and Shounen Maid aren’t weird otaku material, from what I hear. Both of them are sweet, fluffy shoujo titles that appeal more to young Japanese females. For one, Age 12 is serialized in a kids’ shoujo magazine aimed at 9-15 year olds. Maid’s in a gaming magazine for girls.
Trivia and thoughts:
1) Bungou Stray Dogs : The names of late 19th-early 20th century Japanese writers and authors will play a major role in the story. Keep your Wikipedia on!
2) Sousei no Onmyouji : This is by the same guy who wrote Binbougami-ga/Good Luck Girl( did anyone watch that one?). Not as comedic as Binbougami, but there will be plenty of action. The fox mascot in the pic is anime-original, BTW – voiced by Fukuyama Jun! (I think it’s a move to grab the attention of child viewers – Sousei’s taking over Gintama’s prime time slot since its latest season is ending.)
3) Big Order : This is by the creator of Future Diary/Mirai Nikki. Unlike Diary (whose manga ended before the anime), Order’s manga’s still ongoing, so it’ll either end openly or have an anime original ending.
4) Kyoukai no Rinne: Takahashi Rumiko, Inuyasha’s creator, did this manga. Considering her pedigree as the Queen of Manga who’s able to consistently churn out bestselling manga hits without getting cancelled (unlike her younger rivals), it’s disappointing she chose to write the series as a weekly slapstick with no development whatsoever (plus I don’t think it’s as funny as Ranma). Then again, maybe she just wants to kick back and relax – she’s already very rich from sales and royalties of her older manga, plus she’s not exactly young either at 58.
5) Asterisk War : I actually wanted S2 of Rakudai Kishi, but beggars can’t be choosers.
And I wanted S2 of Antimagic, but… actually maybe not. I don’t want them to ruin any more source material (of which Vol 12 will be released in several days). Rakudai achieved its goal of boosting LN sales so the adaptation’s job is probably over. Asterisk was split-cour from the start – if Aniplex didn’t jump the gun and instead waited to see how it’d sell before pouring money into it I bet this second season wouldn’t exist. Cue lower quality.
I wonder how Hundred will turn out.
I wonder if Antimagic’s author had anything to say on how the anime of his series turned out. Given how most people say the Antimagic anime’s terrible, I keep expecting him to say his LNs were never made for anime, similar to what Mahou Sensou’s author said about the anime of his LNs.
Rakudai’s next arc, the 7-Star Games, could be a potential LN sales booster provided the animators can emphasise the intensity of the action there. They’d be faced with adapting 6 volumes, although the contents and writing style are much simpler and elementary compared to the many conspiracies and mysteries of Asterisk.
If you’re curious how the novel’s like, here’s a link; start reading from Vol 4!
https://www.baka-tsuki.org/project/index.php?title=Rakudai_Kishi_no_Eiyuutan
I take it Asterisk was not very popular with Japanese fans..
Someone translated just the 1st volume of Hundred back in 2014; a link if you’re interested.
https://www.baka-tsuki.org/project/index.php?title=Hundred
If 6 volumes is what a Rakudai S2 needs, that probably means two cours and I don’t think Silver Link will commit to a two-cour of pretty much anything. I know Antimagic’s author was really excited for the anime in his Volume 9 afterword. If he’ll say anything (on how much of a trainwreck it was or otherwise) it might be in the Volume 12 afterword, which may never get translated. The cover makes me so hyped though, especially as a Kiseki fan. And we do have a back cover summary:
As for Hundred, I’ve just finished reading the first volume. I was quite bored for the first two chapters or so, but after the Emil(ia) reveal (which was very obvious given the cover and novel illustrations) but it grew on me in the weird way that school battle harems often do. I will give it credit for mixing up the classic ‘duel with a haughty ojou-sama’ premise, but honestly I’d much rather they stopped starting these harems like that in the first place.
The loli scientistEmilia is clearly best girl and the legal wife. I’d watch this.
