Oikawa’s service is still problematic for Karasuno and now, Mad dog is warmed up so he’s more effective than before. Things are quite tensed but no one seems to be taking the lead. So it’s really a “Battle till one of the team loses his balance”. I’ve said that Mad Dog is more effective and it’s a fact but he gets blocked quite a lot, especially by Tanaka who pisses him off. Tsuki has noticed that and swapped with Tanaka at some point to block Mad Dog more effectively, and that, pisses Mad Dog even more.
So he get changed, which is not really surprising at all, if a player loses his composure it’s normal to change him. He tells everyone to go to hell but one of Aoba Johsai’s players, Yahaba, decides to tell him the truth: That was stupid to let the opponent provoke him. Mad Dog was chosen to be a part of the team cuz he’s good at volley ball so he has to do his job right. At this point Yahaba goes full berserk, smashing Mad Dog against a wall which is a strange behavior for that guy who, as far as I remember, was always at the back most of the time.
But that’s nice, give more screen time to different players, I’m up for it! I also think I’ve found my new favorite Aoba Johsai player. Sorry Trashykawa, you’re still my favorite trash but you’ll have to admit that Yahaba was freaking cool. I mean someone finally got the balls to tell Mad Dog that his behavior is wrong and to shut the fuck up. Well, Mad Dog isn’t really talking too much buuut, you get what I mean.
There’s a flash back where Young Mad Dog was watching a volley ball match, being impressed by a tall guy with a strange hair cut. So I guess he wanted to copy him? During all this time he was practicing alone, without anyone else, without a team. And that’s maybe what he was missing: a team. Now that he is playing with a team and that he’s “facing the team” he can become a stronger player. So, now Mad Dog fits his team which is, you’ve guessed it, not good for Karasuno.
This episode was also quite focused on Oikawa’s role as the captain of the team. For the Mad Dog case, Oikawa was trusting him without saying a word, letting him figuring out everything on his own.. Something that just him can do, that’s what remarks Sugar-wara when he says that he doesn’t know what he would have done if Mad Dog was at Karasuno. Sugawara also praises Oikawa for knowing how to handle this difficult player. Oikawa also helped Kindachi to figure out a new attack and basically brings the whole team together. So I guess he truly is a good captain, but this time let us not forget Yahaba-kun and his kabe don move on Mad Dog. I love ya Yahaba <3
Even Hinata who’s not the sharpest pencil in the world, has noticed Oikawa’s importance. So, in order to maybe comfort Kageyama, Hinata tells him: “As long as I’m here, you are invincible“. To what Kageyama replies “Hinata dumbass whadda fuck ya’r talkin’ about? Try to spike correctly and come talk to me again.“
Later on, Kageyama is ready to toss the ball to Hinata but the latter one jumps to close to the net. However, with a nice toss from Shadow Mountain-Kun, Hinata is able to slam the ball down. The point goes to Karasuno and that’s were the episode ends.
