Ajin Episode 9: Wait, Let’s Keep Talking

Kei is even worse than I thought, oh my god. I never know what this kid is thinking so the fact that all of a sudden Nakano started getting sick from the poison, I’m just sitting here like…REALLY? Everything started out fine and normal. Nakano found Kei in the woods, but when Kei saw him his black ghost went out of control and attacked him, and killed him. Like we’ve seen before Kei didn’t really care, he just saw the corpse as a problem. But was surprised when Nakano revived, proving he’s an Ajin. It’s then Nakano gets into talking about why he’s here, such as Satou is crazy as hell and he needs Kei’s help. Kei takes him to a remote area and goes back to the old woman’s house to make him some food, and bring it back. The two of them talk, Kei saying that the old woman doesn’t care who he is, and the people in the village have no idea who he really is. He’s finally found the safe and peaceful place he’s always wanted…which is why he doesn’t understand Nakano. Why give up his perfect home to go out and save people he doesn’t even give a crap about? So Kei plans to eliminate Nakano, because he knows his location, and poisons his riceballs. But before dying from the poison Nakano jumped off a cliff and killed himself to restart.

Which then led to an ugly battle between these two, with Kei coming up with good ways to kill Nakano so then he could decapitate his head and then…dump the other head in the ocean or something. But he doesn’t. After drowning him, knowing that it’ll take longer for a person to die when drowned (how does he know all this stuff?), he throws Nakano into an abandoned truck. A big 16-wheeler that’s dumped into a crater vertically so Nakano will have no chance of climbing out. Kei questions him, why save the people at the Grant Pharmaceuticals when there are people that need saving around the world from sickness, poverty, and war? Why won’t he save them? Which is something he doesn’t get, and what pisses Nakano off. And so Kei leaves him there, weirdly. Nakano can’t use his black ghost to break the walls of the truck, so…poor kid. Can’t do anything and can’t keep his promise to the other Ajin because Kei is a little shit. I have no idea what on Earth will happen then.

Speaking of the pharmaceuticals guys, the media is in a frenzy about the claims Satou made, and the man in charge of the company is denying these claims, which of course is actually true. Tosaki is getting more and more desperate. His replacement arrived to announce that he will be making detailed reports of Tosaki’s actions to his boss. If Tosaki keeps disappointing, he’s dead for sure and he’ll be replaced by the man that spoke with him. Tosaki let Satou run rampant and lost Kei, so he screwed up a lot. Now, he really needs to rush and find something for the IBM countermeasures, or else. And the only person that can help him do that is Ogura, who is still being held hostage in the motel room. He’s getting beaten mercilessly, and this guy seriously wouldn’t talk unless he would get the brand cigarettes he loves…which were in the car. And the poor man is covered in bruises with three broken fingers. These guys are merciless, but he’s ready to talk.

Tosaki’s losing it and things are about to get worse. I can get where Kei is coming from, wanting to stay in a peaceful town and live a quiet peaceful life, pretending to be the grandson of the old woman he’s living with. But…he’s just so cold. It’s not that being an Ajin would take away your emotions, such as becoming half-parasite and Parasyte, and being a Contractor in Darker than Black, it’s just…that’s who Kei is. None of the other Ajin act like him, really, if no one had said they were Ajin there would be no way to tell them apart. We saw him as a child he acted the same cold way, he’s just strange.

Well, at least he was nice enough to leave a little hole for Nakano to pee so I guess he’s not too bad????
