Shoujo-tachi wa Kouya wo Mezasu Episode 6: The Fanservice Episode (Not Really)

After last week’s lackluster episode, I wasn’t really looking forward to this episode. Because when you see in the preview the characters at the beach, it means cliche fanservice tropes. So that’s boring. But I forgot that when this show brings up anime cliches, it always messes them up and makes it pretty funny.

And of course the one that planned all of this was Goth Queen, ah, I mean Kuroda. She said the team needed time to take a break and relax, so she planned a beach trip. Of course she uses this opportunity to take photos for the game. This place is brimming with tropes and Kuroda tries her hardest to make these moments happen and for her to take notes. First, the swimsuits. Then, beach volleyball, which ended terribly because Kuroda sucks at it and got smacked in the face with the ball so she stepped out. Haha, loser.

Then she had a “tee hee, ha ha” moment, asking Yuuki to run so Kuroda could chase her. And I guess she was trying to reenact a moment you sometimes see in anime when a boy chases after a girl and he tells her to stop but she keeps running and their laughing and stuff. Well, when Kuroda playfully told Yuuki to “stop”, she really did stop. Oops.

After that Kuroda called the girls over to make them splash water on her, to make it sexy and shit, but then the girls show no mercy and almost kill her. Which was funny.

So they go to the hotel and they hit the baths after dinner, and the pinnacle of beach episode tropes finally arrives. Titties. Oh, I’m sorry I mean breasts. Kuroda gets in the bath and starts talking about breasts, saying the size doesn’t matter and it’s all about shape. Andou says just talking about them isn’t enough she has to show them, so this includes Andou and Yuuka touching her all over while Yuuki is hiding herself underwater, probably trying to wash the dirty thoughts racing through her head because remember, she’s Hentai Girl. The topic of boobs was about to bring her naughty side out.

And so everything Kuroda tried to do was ruined. Before the bath, Kuroda went into Bunta’s room and asked him what he thought about the swimsuits, to which that freaks him out, especially when she gets all up in his face. She says that he shouldn’t hold back from his gross sexual thoughts and put some of those thoughts into the script. So, making things awkward as always, thank you Goth Queen.

Remember last week when I said I was upset that Andou never apologized for what she did? Well, surprise surprise, she apologized!!! But only to Kuroda. Kuroda says it’s alright when she produces results. It wasn’t exactly the type of apology I wanted, I would rather have she apologized to everyone because her mess ups affected everyone, not just Kuroda. But…at least it was something.

So with all of this not really fanservice, we get back to another topic that I was worried about because I’m not a fan of this. We saw some glances from Yuuka which were directed to Bunta. Near the end of the episode, Yuuka wakes up early and sees Bunta’s laptop out on a table and notices him sitting on a log on the beach, alone. She runs over to him and mentions a childhood memory about watermelons. She gets excited and runs into the water, calling for Bunta to join but she stops when Kuroda arrives. Kuroda and Bunta talk to each other about the swimsuit stuff, and Yuuka asks what they’re talking about. Bunta says nothing, and being shut out like that, Yuuka gets upset and runs off.

I guess I can understand Yuuka. She’s feeling a little left out since most of Bunta’s attention is on Kuroda lately, but she also feels jealousy. One part because of this, and another because we saw that Yuuka has probably fallen for Bunta and to always see him with Kuroda angers her. At the train ride home, Bunta can see that Yuuka is still upset. So next week we’re probably going to discuss this issue more. Whether these two get together, I can’t say. Whether Bunta and Kuroda get together, I can’t say either, because I’m feeling no romance in this show. So this romance stuff isn’t going to end well, which I’m not looking forward to.
