This episode debuted with an African diplomat / prince who very quickly establishes that he is a mean motherfucker- in the power sense. I haven’t felt quite so daunted by the power of individuals as when Salva is essentially like: well I’m definitely here to be super powerful and also definitely a touch misogynistic. There is something about Salva’s power that controls beautiful or attractive women and well, whew, I am wondering how that might affect Mira or what information it would give away about her if it doesn’t affect her at all.
The conflict of the episode appears at first to lie in the disappearance of Prince Lwai, while also being the first episode to allude to Kyouma’s personal past instead of just mentioning the Beasts gratuitously. True to anime nature of course the missing Prince runs into Kyouma, and Kyouma essentially babysits him for half the episode. While I want to tell you I anticipated that he would eventually be a suspicious character, I was too swept up in trying to decipher if Kyouma’s ‘sister’ was his sister or his close friend who is the same age as him. Oops.
Lwai is a precocious kid who gets into those gosh darned hijinks! Kyouma notes he is very likely an android or has many mechanical fixtures, to which we find is true when he breaks into Mary’s base and cuts her best robot in half. While seeing Lwai made him seem stereotypically precocious, it almost felt like an ‘uh duh’ moment when he turned out to be a super powered pawn that was under Salva. Is he really his brother? I don’t know, Salva has a lot of pawns and Lwai seems to be incredibly important to him.
Kyouma and Mira both have a lot of mystery surrounding them this episode: Mira’s organic brain eludes understanding and Kyouma’s mysterious past is starting to get context: namely his regrets. Kyouma actually seems to have a story that makes the previous episodes stir up his memories about a girl- one we see in the end of the episode. As it happens, next episode is probably a flashback episode.
This episode has so many interesting things: Now we have a new player in the field, Salva, who wants to start an almost battle royale in order to bring all of the figures in the show together. Even Loser could technically want in on this, and it’s nerve-wracking. . . .and amazing! I want the free for all on Easter Island~! Part of me feels it is all a little cliche to have it happening, but maybe next episode when we learn more about Kyouma we’ll get a greater grip. Or the show will degenerate into a bunch of tournament arcs. Who knows!
I love Salva because I can’t decide if he is final boss material. Will he just be the bad administrator or will he be a real villain of context? The show is only about half way over, but I’m anticipating good things from him. I’m excited to see if Lwai can take on Mira or if they’ll simply be equals- yet another way it could be revealed who Mira is. Mira herself is probably too special to be one shot completely, but given how powerful Lwai is I suppose we just can’t know that until we see it.
Cause we’re totally gonna see it.
Oki
Pretty surprised by how quick its airing but Dimension W is going to start airing on Toonami. While I never really watch Toonami, I still can at least applaud them from when they tried to get back on air, with Deadman in Wonderland being their only attraction. Now they’re slowly getting “recentish” shows, and with Dimension W, their first show that’s airing while the japanese dub still airs (well there is Spance Dandy….).
Anyways, I’m pretty sure that girl shown at the end is dead due to coils or something, which would explain Kyouma’s hatred towards them, plus she kind of resembles Mira in a way (especially with both of them being shown opposite of each other in the opening, walking towards Kyouma).
