Dear writers of Yu-Gi-Oh! ARC-V Episode 88,
THANK YOU. Thank you for making Crow smart this episode! That is all we wanted!
Man, this episode was good. It surprise me quite a bit to see how the writers prevented any progress to be made or even put into action until halfway through the episode. This is where they had Crow use his head, an opportunity provided to him to do so when Jean attempted to change the course in accommodate Yuuya with an action card (he didn’t need) and Yuuya’s shock waves from his inner chaos threw a wedge in his plans, putting both him and Crow in danger when the distance between the two roads were too far apart. After Yuuya (in epic fashion) safely glides over, it dawned to Crow how it doesn’t make sense for the Tops to put Yuuya in just as much danger as he did. The second he considered that, he provided him the benefit of the doubt and attempted to communicate with him, and that is where he realizes, ‘Yup! Something is terribly, terribly wrong.’
There may have been some viewers disappointed not to see a tag-team with Sora and Crow, or Sora trying to take off the helmet (because at this point, it needed to be taken off due to his life in danger). Instead, Sora saw Academia’s Obelisk Force in the skies, and with that he made up his mind of what he was going to commit himself to. Knowing that Yuzu is already with her allies, he knew that Selena most likely wasn’t, he takes it upon himself to find and escort Selena to safety. But before he goes, he drops Crow a message, warning him of the situation they are all in, pointing to the Obelisk Force and validating his concerns about Yuuya’s berserk behavior as Yuuya not himself.
The arrival of the Obelisk Force was the real tipping point of the episode. The second I saw the them, all I could think of was, “SHIT Obelisk Force arrived, !@*#&!@(*&#!(*. ACADEMIA IS HERE ACADEMIA HERE CODE RED, CODE RED! 20 AND MORE, OH GOD THIS IS BAD!” And Jean-Rogers more or less had the exact same reaction. He was shitting his pants when the alarms went off, and the visuals came up. Just by seeing the Obelisk Force he scraps his plans to deal with Reiji and the board, and focuses on trying to keep the people of the city oblivious of what is happening by ordering the security team to make sure nobody leaves the arena, (not so much for those who are watching at home, and since the power is out they can’t even watch the duel), and instead sends Sergey to deal with the Obelisk Force.
This is also what forces Jean away from Yuuya- not that it made any difference since the device was already spirally out of control to maximum charge, damaging his psyche and threatening to kill him no thanks to the shock-waves Yuuya was creating from his inner chaos, (which also happened to wipe out the main circuit and back-up). The worst part was though, Jean just shrugged when he heard it could kill Yuuya, in response he said he’ll just toss him aside. Either way, he has more pressing matters to address now.
It was quite impressive and exciting to watch Crow just barely staying the game. In this series, we hardly get to see the characters use that many trap cards to keep themselves in the match, because often time they would resort to an Action Card instead. He dished out everything he had, and knew that his final trump card means he is likely to lose, but it was still worth the risk. Unfortunately for him, Yuuya already had a counter up his sleeve, and won the duel- but the core mission was completed: Crow successfully managed to snap Yuuya out by ending the duel, which then later led to him blacking out. Perhaps Yuuya blacking out when this happens is (for now) the ultimate safety mechanism. It can either prevent or lessen the burden the shock of what had just happened. In this particular event, it also helped that Crow did not hold any resentment towards Yuuya, and instead gave him something else to focus on, finding Sora to help him protect Selena against the Obelisk Force. Giving Yuuya something else to focus on immediately was crucial. It didn’t give him any time to think about ‘what did i do?’, ‘what happened’, or attempt to fill in the blanks- because we all know if he knew what he had done, it would destroy him.
At this point, with the Obelisk Force in huge numbers on the ground, I am wondering if we will even get the chance to see the competition end. Surely Jean will want that to happen, especially since he wants to keep everyone in the stadium, but two problems. First the commons (as per usual) are going to have a riot, and the tops are probably going to have a bitch fit. The second, Yugo might just bail out of the competition, putting all his resources and focus into locating Yuuri. Well, actually- if this happens, it would lead straight to Yuuya VS Jack, that would be one way to cut straight to the chase- but the thing is, Yuuya too is likely to bail from the competition because protecting Sora and Selena are his top priorities at the moment. It really varies on how long and how many problems Obelisk Force causes. Remember, these guy are really tough. It was 3 VS 5 (or 7, if you include the Cook and Fisherman earlier participation) back in the Standard World. While the Lancers have undoubtedly grown since then, the Obelisk Force is still a prominent threat. Jean’s security team doesn’t stand a chance. And the chances are, if the Obelisk Force wants to investigate the arena, they don’t need to use the door, they can just literally drop in with their kites. Also, it is worrying to see in the preview that Tsukikage going against the said Obelisk Force, since it looks like the three of them are going to run into them, and in order to protect both Reira and Selena, he is going to sacrifice himself! Q___Q NOOOOOO I DON’T WANT THATTTTTT!!!! I hope someone (even Yuuya) comes to his aid fast! MAYBE YUUGO? I DON’T CARE WHO, HE NEEDS BACK-UP!
I literally found it messed up that Jean pretty didn’t care that fourteen would get killed would all those shockings to Yuya’s brain that caused his berserk mode.
I honestly hope Tsukikage doesn’t get carded but the way Arc-V works, it’s unpredictable meaning anything can happen(Sora could pop up seemingly going to help him but since the Oblisk Force is there he’ll probably be conflicted making thongs worse to the point where he cards Tsukikage or Reira comes in trying as best as he can only for Tsukikage to pull a Piccolo).
I was cursing at him the second he shrugged it off. What a monster… (ꐦ°᷄д°᷅)
Q ^ Q Tsukikage is one of my favourites so it would be devastating to see him get carded PLEASE BE SAFE!!!! ; ____ ; I’m not sure if Sora would jump in because it would be wiser for him to conceal his betrayal against the Professor for as long as he can. The minute they learn he betrayed them, they are going to do whatever it takes to eliminate him (especially since he has inside information as well). At this point I’m hoping it will be Yuugo who runs into him, especially since he will be back buzzing around the city in no time. Reira would probably want to stay back to help, but he also knows how important it is for them to protect Selena- so I expect Reira will do everything in his power to get them to safety.
I think Yugo would likely run into Yuri since they were building up to that earlier and it would lead to an precise opportunity for both him and Sergey since the tournament isn’t suppose to continue again until the morning. It did makes since to why Jack hated the duel because in his perspective as well as most people there was no enjoyment but pain for want person that brought upon destruction and even more with Jean tampering with the field to his favor.
One thing that also caught my attention was how Commons easily went cheering Yuya and Tops suddenly giving a crap about Crow during the duel making the people even more annoying for me how they easily switch sides like a coin. Lastly, was it just me was did the whole *Death Glare* Yuya gave Crow looked incredible especially with Crow’s reaction to it much fitting.
Yeah I definitely thought Crow’s reaction was justified. Beserk!Yuuya looked like he was going to kill him. ; ___ ;
I LOVE this episode. So many cool things went down! XD
It was an epic part 2 for an epic part 1. So I’ma go rewatch episodes 87 and 88 now. XD
But there were a few things that were VERY unsettling to me.
1. HOLY FLIP that death glare Yuya gave Crow. O_O He didn’t even seem to care about what Crow was talking about, it seemed as if Yuya had zoned out but then heard Crow and then just glared at him.
2. Um… how come no has commented on the fact that Yuya basically just reached Level 4 of Berserk Mode? >_>;
3. When Yuya’s dragon got destroyed… that scene when they showed a close up… that lasted WAY too long for it NOT to be important! And then Yuya’s face and the yell he let out afterwords… *shiver*
4. Am I the only one who thought it was weird how Yuya LOOKED AT HIS HANDS!? After Yuya woke up trying to figure out what the flip just happened… it looked as if Yuya took a double take on his hands. Oh yeah and, he’s eye seemed different.
Not sure if that’s cause of the animators or wait cause I think Yuya’s eyes were smaller…
I don’t think anyone is keeping track of the levels in particular of Beserk Mode, it’s just, “@!#*@)(!#* IT IS GETTING WORSE!” reaction xD But levels are a fair way to keep track of its insanity and aggression levels.
Yeah I noticed the ball of light close up after Odd Eyes Rebellion Dragon blew up. I wouldn’t be surprised if it were actually the physical forms of the souls: in this case, it would Yuuya’s and Yuuto’s because of Odd Eyes and DRXYZ Dragon are both in Yuuya’s possession + Yuuto’s soul within him. The Dragons are super important and relevant to this. There’s a reason why the dragons go bonkers around and react to one another!
Once again, it’s plot armour that allowed Yuya to win, for the sake of that rematch with Jack (and Yugo’s dream, as I said, is over from the start), but AGAIN Obelisk Force swooped in and another tournament will soon be cancelled, jeez why don’t they just let a duel tournament finish properly, it’s becoming a gag where interrupted duel tournaments became a side-feature with these Obelisk The Tormentor’s ripoffs!!! CROW HOGAN good thing you’re still a very rational person to see out Yuya’s abnormality (with Sora’s help of cuz), and him surviving Odd-Eyes Rebellion’s attacks and effect was just goddamn impressive, call backs of the trickstar of 5D’s man! VERY nice to Roger pissing his pants upon seeing Academia carrying out its official invasion and annihilation of Synchro dimension just to capture Yuzu and Serena (getting rid of the hypocritical Commons and equally disgusting Tops in the process), so no Reiji vs SerGay but instead it will be SerGay ready to wreck havoc upon those trans-dimensional invaders, and Yugo vs Yuri (Fusion lol) still heating up with 4 Yuyas returning to normal (but not for long)!!
Random note 1: The “Supreme King” Wings equipped to Odd-Eyes Rebellion, Yuki Judai (and Yubel) must be smirking somewhere lol
Random note 2: Jack appears pissed about this duel, meaning that he did see Yuya (sorry, not you Yugo) as a threat to his throne?
Random note 3: Eva, did you notice that this whole crap happened within ONE day, from SerGay slamming Yuzu to near-death, Shinji throwing his tantrums about his epic-fail “revolution” and framing Yuya as the “dog” of Tops (with Roger fanning the flame further), Crow and Kurosaki became true bros after the epic birdspam duel, Yugo drooling over Serena (Rin) before resuming his business to finish her off (with Yuya in sync) and went drooling over her (Rin) to get smacked, and set off to pursue Yuri? Then with the conclusion of Yuya vs Crow here comes Obelisk Force to condemn Synchro Dimension to oblivion, what an epic day to happen and it still hasn’t end yet, what a day one should NEVER forget!!
Ooppsie, Tsukikage going to face Obelisk Force alone next? NO WAY he can tackle those invaders himself, someone help!!
I don’t see Jack getting ticked off at someone being a threat to the throne, instead he probably more furious at how obvious the game had been rigged to Yuuya’s and other select competitors’ (Selena) favor. I am pretty confident he has noticed this at this point, and possibly even may have experienced it as the victim of a rigged game in the past. It would also justified to call a rigged game, boring.
Indeed A lot of shit happened that day. After a week break, it’s easy to forget that, and once you remember you go, “DANG. That’s a bad day.” All because jean dragged the competition out into the night. xD
I think Jack seemed disappointed, Not by a threat to his throne, or how rigged the game was, but because of the way Yuya dueled. After seeing him learn and grow in the duel Vs Shinji when he used Tuning Magician to its full potential, now he sees this kind of spectacle that, while the other citizens may enjoy, it’s not the true entertainment that Yuya showed him earlier.
At this point Jack shouldn’t be worrying about keeping his throne, Obelisk Force is here to wreck havo, and that’s the best chance for Jack to prove his worth cuz I still believe that he’s weaker than Reiji.
At this point I’ve read all of your reviews on this show from start to finish and I’ll definitely continue to come back for more. But on to more pressing concerns of mine.
HOLY CRAP THIS EPISODE WAS INTENSE!!!!! I might have loved it when I couldn’t understand just what they were saying on my first watch through of the raw (with only a few slightly scared moments) but now that I’ve seen the sub…… Holy shit I was terrified! Poor Yuya! He had went through so much and now we don’t even know Just what side effects it left from that overuse ;-;. He passed out and then looked at his hands. I think he might have been looking for evidence of blood to see if he killed someone…. This brings me to my next point.
Jean can go to hell for all I care. Wait no. I want him to live and suffer. This man uses electrical shocks sent directly so someone’s brain and then shrugs it off when he’s informed that it could lead to serious mental problems or even DEATH. I really hope this man gets his just deserts before the ark is over.
I really hope either Yuya or Sora end up stepping in to help Tsukikage next episode. I don’t want our badass ninja to get carded! ;—-;
I am happy to hear that! Thank you for tuning in every week! 😀
Unfortunately I don’t think Jean is going to go through an specific torture. If anything Academia is going to swiftly card him so he can’t do anything. >_>;;; …But it would certainly be a dark twist if Academia does torture him… I mean, they tortured Yusei in 5DS I wouldn’t be surprised if the director and writers implemented that in this story as well…. Either way, we can all agree Jean-Rogers needs to be punished for his crimes.
Q ^ Q Stay safe Tsukikage!!!!!
