Well, I think we all expected Koro-sensei to come out of that fight unscathed. We can’t have a show without him. But I certainly didn’t expect that this episode would be all about Itona. Which is way past due! I’ve been waiting for this kid to join the class since he was supposed to before, and we actually got some character development for him.
Shiro is awful. He showed no shred of care or concern for Itona, he was just a pawn he used in hopes that Koro-sensei would be killed, but when Itona failed, Shiro just abandoned him. And learning about Itona’s backstory, this hurt more. After losing to Koro-sensei, Itona started going berserk, cursing at himself for being weak and losing again. We learn that Itona grew up in a family that owned a company, but then they went bankrupt and his parents left him alone to live with his uncle, his parents just disappearing without telling him where. All the talk about studying and integrity Itona then thought to be useless, because all of that stuff would just be thrown out the window when someone more stronger would appear. So hating all of this loss, Itona has this thing where he wants great amounts of power to always win. He always has a need to win, and always losing to Koro-sensei has really gotten to him.
After his parents left, Itona bumped into Shiro. Shiro asking him whether he wanted power, and then he grafted tentacle cells onto his head. Itona usually always had some sort of treatment that would control his tentacles but Shiro stopped and if Itona couldn’t control them he would slip into madness and die in a matter of a few days. But of course since Itona didn’t kill Koro-sensei, he doesn’t care. He’s just a pawn. What a JERK.
Even when Koro-sensei knew it was a trap, he still went after to save Itona. And all the students helped out as well. With Itona abandoned and the kids wanting to help get the tentacles off his head before it killed him, Terasaka and his crew decide to help him out.
I’m surprised at how much I like Terasaka now. I remember hating this guy back in the first season but wow has he really redeemed himself. He and his crew took Itona out, making him do stupid stuff and just relax and have fun. Basically, they showed him that he was being too hasty in his wanting to kill Koro-sensei. He wasn’t really thinking things through and just acting without a plan. He just needed…to cool it. And thankfully Terasaka and the others were able to help him see that, and he was able to rid of his bloodlust and was able to also rid of those tentacles. And he joined the class finally!
And he joined Terasaka’s squad.
Surprising episode, I wanted more on Itona’s character because I was afraid that he would be reduced to the killer weapon that would appear once in awhile to give Sensei a short fight. The classroom has grown a little bigger, and I’m sure things are going to be much more fun with him around. And once he’s accustomed to being with everyone else he could really help with the assassination attempts. Now it just makes me wonder if we’ll be getting more transfer students. But really, I don’t really know what to expect from this series.
