Based Madhouse does it again. And oppai hoodie appears!
Madhouse has been KILLING it since episode 1. All the fights have been animated marvelously, but the practice match between Saitama and Genos just had to be the best so far. Though I wish they kept Saitama’s “Oh. :D” when Genos pulled out the bigger guns because that was pretty funny. But seriously Madhouse must have a giant vault of cash for the quality, I just can’t get over it. It’s that good, it’s one of the best, maybe the best, animation I’ve seen in an anime. Madhouse went all out.
So our duo take their hero exam, with Genos attracting a lot of attention after the House of Evolution situation. The Hero Examination consists of two parts, a physical and a written part. We weren’t shown the written part (in the anime or manga i think?), so I can’t even imagine what topic that consisted of. But we were able to see Saitama dominate everyone in the physical portion, where he basically destroyed everything. I lost it when Saitama’s head got stuck in the ceiling when he did the jump. Each part of the test is worth 50 points, with 70 points total being a passing grade. Genos complained of each part of the test being too easy, and it shows as he got a perfect 100, getting 50 in each part. And amazingly, a rookie like him was already put into the S Class, the highest class. Genos had high hopes for Saitama, but Saitama actually barely passed with a 71. He aced the physical but did horribly with the written portion, so he only made it to C Class, the lowest hero class.
Which is pretty funny, because if the test only consisted on brute strength, then Saitama would surpass everyone. Saitama contemplates whether this is the type of hero he wants to be, as originally he wanted to be a hero for fun. Now this is more of a job, but who says a job can’t be fun? Snek, an A-Class hero who welcomed Genos and Saitama, actually hates them because of their attitudes. He’s pissed that Genos already out-ranked him, and doesn’t believe someone like Saitama broke all the records the Hero Association ever had when it came to the physical test. Which is amazing. Like there’s a God inside his body. He’s that ridiculous. Snek challenges him but of course gets beaten with Saitama ignoring him.
Genos had officially became Saitama’s disciple, and so he requests a practice bout against him. He really did this to figure out something about Saitama’s strength. And it was amazing that Genos pulled out all these guns with great speed and Saitama didn’t even get a scratch on him. Saitama is just that amazing, and Genos realized…that he’d probably never get on Saitama’s level. I mean falsely hitting his afterimages? Please…
This episode we were also introduced to a new character, another hero, Sweet Mask. And of course he’s voiced by Mamoru Miyano, of course he is. And correct me if I’m wrong but they introduced him much earlier in the anime. I didn’t expect to see him so soon, that damn Sweet Mask. This is the first thing that the anime has done differently, I don’t remember that Sweet Mask/Genos meeting either. So I don’t know what that means. I didn’t think they’d change some things around, but I hope it won’t be too drastic because everything so far was identical. But then again I kinda like that they brought in Sweet Mask earlier on because he was really mysterious and didn’t have much time in the manga. Also, they made him more sinister. In the end of the episode, Genos and Saitama split ways after their udon. I found it so funny that they made that scene of them walking away look kind of sad, but after the end credits, we see Genos in Saitama’s apartment with a giant backpack with all his stuff. Because when he said I’ll be back, that meant that he’d go home and pack all his belongings.
Genos: Can I move in?
Saitama: No.
Genos: I got cash.
Saitama: Hello, friend, make yourself at home. 😀
Now if next week’s episode is going to be what I think it is, then I’m soooooo excited. If not, then it’ll still be a great episode. This episode was just handled great, even with the new scenes in the end. Really, not too much happened this episode except for the exam and the sparring match, which was godly and hard to explain. You just need to watch it. Like every week, I’m excited for the next episode.
Um, Berry, I think you forgot to mention about the foreshadowing: Heroes Association was made 3 YEARS AGO, and the founder is the butt-chin kid’s grandpa, so apparently, Saitama is an indirect reason for the organization’s existence.
Also, I’ve heard that a representative from MADHOUSE has announced in Twitter that the budget they put for One Punch Man is a standard budget like they do for their other animes (CMIIW). So if you think about it, it’s just about dedication. Of all the people. In this production. Yes. YES. Oh my God. The lesson they can teach for some animation studios…
And yes, they tweak the story a bit, but from what I see, I personally think it makes the story more appealing (I didn’t care much about Sweet Mask in the manga), so I agree with you there.
Man, I want that oppai hoodie so bad…
Ah, of course! How could I not mention that? >< Another time Saitama's greatness went unnoticed. Yeah I actually saw that somewhere after I posted this. That's so crazy! If all animators were as dedicated and passionate as this team is, then wow we'd have lots of great-looking stuff. Though I also heard that the best animators were chosen to be part of this anime, so there's that too.
Kinda surprised they kept the oppai hoodie (which wasn’t revealed last episode, and also got a 18+ censorship on clothing websites). I know it is more for the laughs, but yeah… (not sure how the US is gonna mod that part though)
Oh, and never have a eating contest with a cyborg that can turn food into his energy. NEVER! If I was the restaurant owner I would put a sign saying “Cyborgs not allowed in eating contests” XDDDDD. (kinda funny too how their gigsized udon was served in a bucket)
I’m just going to assume any additional tweaks they put in the anime are under the direct supervision of ONE, like the changes Murata puts in his redrawn version. With that said, I liked that they introduced Sweet Mask earlier as well. ONE gives you teensy tiny hints on these characters and then BAM! Suddenly they’re important and doing stuff. It can be a little jarring, not that I mind too much, but I think the anime’s method is easier for viewers to follow. Just so 6 episodes later they’re not all like, who the heck is this guy?
I hope we get to see Fubuki early too…*Sheds a tear*
Yeah I hope ONE gave supervision to the tweaks in the story. But yeah introducing Sweet Mask earlier on was better as he won’t appear out of nowhere. I didn’t mind it too much in the manga either but I think the anime is taking a better direction.
Ahh, Fubuki….if they don’t they might save her for an OVA.
