Shiki… Shiki OH Shiki,
This guy is smelling the creep from miles away. For me Shiki is a grown up version of Kanato from Diabolik Lovers. I don’t particularly like him but I found him funny in the first episodes.Will my opinion remain the same after watching 20 minutes of Shiki creeping around ?I’m not so sure about that… Also, for the record, he’s voiced by the same seiyu who did Raito in Diabolik Lovers and Makoto in School Days…

What bad things can possibly happen ? Pfff, Nothing ! I’m sure Shiki is a lovely angel… Yeah .. Hum..Let me just grab my PROZAC tablets and Let’s do this !

First scene is Ritsuka talking with Azuna about not so interesting stuff and seeing a pigeon (or a dove I don’t know, I’m not good at ornithologist stuff ). So she frees the pigeon and gets ignored by Rem who has now, the annoying tendency to be a stalker, always watching Ritsuka in the dark without saying anything. I bet he’s taking pictures of her, collecting her hair and building a Ritsuka Shrine in his fancy house. Creep.
After ignoring Ritsuka, Rems goes back to the student council Library where he meets the rest of the Dick-Crew. Each member is doing their own particular things. Urie is smelling his roses, Mage is taking strange body positions all around the library and Shiki is also playing with flowers. Please don’t become Urie… Well, actually, I’m still not sure who is the worst guy. OH WELL…They have again a non interesting talk about the grimoire, how much they want it and that they need to control Ritsuka and stuff. Shiki gets pissed off by their remarks on his “wings” and like a teeanger in his period of teenage rebellion decides to leave the room saying “Whatever, YOU’LL NEVER UNDERSTAND ME MOM !”
Also, Rem’s dog is named Loewen and he survived Shiki another episode. Don’t lose hope Doggy.
So Shiki, the creep-emo-teenage boy goes to the school garden to tear up some flowers because he’s really angry and by doing this he can finally prove that he’s a deep and dark character. Good job Shiki I’m impressed.
Ritsuka sees him and decides to stop him because he’s tearing up flowers and that’s bad. First he doesn’t recognize her and push her away, because of that, a thorn gets stuck in her hand and she starts bleeding a bit. Perfect occasion for Shiki to let the audience discover his softer side. It won’t last long, trust me.
After washing blood off their hands, Shiki confess to Ritsuka that he’s actually a Fallen angel, banned from Heaven. I don’t know if this information is relevant for the story because for now on he has been doing the exact same thing as the Devils. But oh well, I guess this extra information gives him the opportunity to say that he’s not like the other guys, that he’s different and that he understands her and stuff while hugging her. He surely doesn’t lose any time does he? well, they only have 20 minutes to prove themselves so better make it fast.
He also tells her that he knows where her mom is and tries to make her come with him. HUUUUUMMM…. Looks like a trap. At this moment Azuna appears and protests. Strange fact, Shiki doesn’t seems to mind and even offers Azuna to accompany them. In order to protect Ritsuka, she accepts. They go to a creepy empty Museum full of Neo-impressionism/pointillism paintings. Shiki still refuses to tell them where Ritsuka’s mother is and disappears. In the meantime, the possessed puppets of the Student Council have found the missing mother. She’s sleeping in a strange coffin, guarded by Vampires. She also has a vampire bite mark on her neck. I can see the drama coming… yeah, She’s definitely not in the Museum, so what does Shiki wants ? While searching for him, Ristuka sees a painting where the office of her grand father is represented .
She’s magically transported to her grandfather’s office and she gets to see what I think are scenes from her past . She discovers that her Aunt was actually “in love” with a mysterious long white hair guy, that she died under strange circumstances leaving her son, Rindo alone and that her grandfather was obviously aware of everything and related to the grimoire somehow. Wow, hold on a second, that’s a lot in only a few seconds.
So Rindo was actually trained to be an exorcist by his grand father. He’s actually the cousin of Ritsuka since his mother is the Aunt Marta. If you’re wondering, him being Ritsuka’s cousin doesn’t change anything that’s still incest for me. So Aunt Martha was seeing a strange guy in the dark. OOOH , maybe that guy was a vampire and he’s the father of Rindo, so Rindo is a vampire. That could explain the magical powers and the red eyes… But who is the guy with white hair? The old man that we saw in the first episode and in the opening? Because right now, the only guy with white hair and a white beard is the grand father… It’s silly because he’s Ritsuka grand father so he’s the father of the Aunt, therefore he can’t be Rindo father right ? Unless incest is like a familial tradition…uh… Anyway !I don’t think he’s the white guy… At least I really hope so ʕ◉ᴥ◉ʔ
At the end of her magical vision, Ritsuka sees a man dressed in fancy clothes saying something but she can’t recognize him nor hear him. After Ritsuka being back to reality, Shiki appears and while restraining her he asks her what she saw and remember. So yeah, he wasn’t showing her anything and probably used her to get more information about the grimoire. But Ritsuka is pretty pissed off by him so she finally decides to not trust him anymore and to leave. To make her stay Shiki starts signing the most romantic and adorable song of all time.

I’m sorry I can’t… THIS SONG… THIS SONG… THIS SONG IS A RAPE SONG . YEAH, OF COURSE YOU WON’T DO A THING !!! SHE LOOKS PERFECTLY FINE RIGHT NOW. Let me get this straight. I don’t mind Yandere characters, It’s not really my cup of tea but I don’t care about them. But I really don’t like when they get all sexually and physically offensive towards the main character. I thought we were over with all that Diabolik Lovers Rape/sucking Blood thing but apparently not. I might have misunderstood the meaning of this song but I doubt it. If you understood another message from Shiki’s song please tell me, I really want to believe that this is not what I think it is. But,that will never erase the fact that I feel pretty uncomfortable watching this ʕ´• ᴥ •`ʔ
Anyway, after this wonderful love declaration, Shiki hypnotizes Ritsuka and tells her Yandere crap stuff. For the first time hypnosis is working on Ritsuka. I don’t know if it’s because Shiki isn’t a Devil or because Ritsuka pendant was broken. But even if her pendant is broken, she still has Rindo’s ring so…. HUM….
Out of nowhere, Azuna appears, spreading holy water on Shiki like “begone Satan !”. She also tries to restrain him with magical circles but since he’s not a devil, magical circles don’t work on him. He gets pretty pissed off and changes to his final true form : Shiki with big black wings. His evolution allows him to spread dark feathers around him while laughing his ass off like a evil guy. Pretty impressive. I want that Pokemon ! ʕ•̀ω•́ʔ✧
So Azuna is actually an exorcist. Well, I’m not really surprised, we all saw that coming. She tries to fight against Shiki’s angel powers but she’s pretty shit and gets wrecked quickly. It gives the opportunity to Shiki to get all dominant again and to do his yandere act. At this point don’t really care anymore. Say what want you want Shiki I don’t care about your Ass anymore.
Even if Azuna lied to her, Ritsuka still wants to defend her friend against Shiki. I almost cried at this moment. Finally, Finally we don’t have to pass by the typical ” YOU LIED TO ME! I THOUGHT YOU WERE MY FRIEND ! I WILL NEVER TRUST YOU AGAIN EVEN IF ALL THIS TIME YOU’VE BEEN TRYING TO PROTECT ME!”. Thank you anime, thank you (but I’m still not forgetting the rape song though) ʕ； •`ᴥ•´ʔ
Shiki thinks Ritsuka is a party pooper and therefore he decides to end this little party and to leave them next to the Lion fountain ( probably full of GHB…) without giving them further explications about what happened or where Ritsuka mother is.
But in the Dark… Stalker Rem was watching. Ritsuka remarks him and asks him again if he knew about all this. Like always Rem is ignoring her and that makes her really sad. She’s realizing that she’s being used by almost everybody in this show and I feel bad for her ʕ´• ᴥ •`ʔ
Also, in this episode we can see Rindo receiving order from church-guys saying that guess what ? The want the grimoire.

I’m Sad, I’m really sad. I wanted to like Shiki, I really did. But I can’t. I thought he was a funny yandere creepy guy in the first episodes but now… I just can’t like him. I know he’s already really popular among the girls but… gnnnnuh… I don’t like him. He’s too Diabolik Lovers for me ʕ ᓀ ᴥ ᓂ ʔ
Next Episode will be dedicated to the Blue hair guy that we saw in Rindo’s and Urie’s episode. I really trhinks he’s the dog. Oh well, we’ll see.

LOL I died! But I strangely love Shiki even more now!
At first I thought Shiki was going to be really creepy, but he’s already starting to grow on me in this episode with his dark song. It almost makes me want to do the belly dance xD I don’t mind Yandere characters even with the creepy calmness. As long as they are a “Dom” who knows how to dominate a “submissive” (alluding to BDSM lol).
Azuna came in and ruined the moment until she ended up messed up. Crosses and holy water did little effect on Shiki, so of course it was useless.
Ritsuka is still innocent even after pushing away, slapping, and being embraced by all of the beautiful hot devils including a fallen four-winged angel. If she doesn’t want to be hugged, I’ll be more than happy to have her switch places with me lol

As messed up as he is, for some reason I was happy when Shiki crushed Azuna’s “oh-so-delicate” frail hand lol You don’t mess with one of boys, especially when they belong to a girl’s dream reverse harem evil laughter xD
Aha I get what you mean by the “submissive thing” XD. For me, Shiki is a pretty good Yandere character, he had, I think the biggest fanbase even before this episode. But yeah, not really my thing after all, I ‘m all about that Tsundere ʕ•̀ω•́ʔ✧
At least Shiki brought some action and even if the lyrics of the song are creeping me out, the melody is nice ʕ•ᴥ•ʔ
So yeah overall I don’t hate him, he’s just not my type. 20 minutes of Shiki being all dominant and Sadistic is just too much for me ʕ´• ᴥ •`ʔ

Shiki’s song was all sorts of disturbing especially with the moonshaped crib and the art canvas of the bunny almost gave me the impression that he was a pedo or something lol Since he is a fallen angel and he’s probably way older than he looks. One of the lines in his song where he says “How pink the fruit, I drive my love in” already gave me some dirty thoughts xD
I also hope the blue haired guy a song as well. Most of the guys are obviously douchebags since they are “Devils” and targeting Ritsuka for the grimoire by whatever means possible. Whether it be seducing, embracing, molesting, lying, or tempt her, in order to tell them. Of course, we all know she won’t give in to temptation that easily 😉
Yeah Rem is my favorite Devil so far, God dammit I can’t handle those Tsundere characters XD
I really liked Rindo first because I thought he was the most good looking but yeah… the whole incest thing… uh… So I don’t like really him as a part of the show (with the incest plot going on).
I had to watch Shiki’s song more than once because I wasn’t sure that I’d completely understood the meaning of all the references. But, yeah, this is definitively the most sexual song of all.
The thing I like about this anime (besides the catchy songs) is actually the main heroine. I don’t usually like girl characters in Anime ( Saying that I don’t care about them might be more appropriate actually) but I kind of like Ritsuka ( meaning, I don’t want to slap her every minute). And for a reverse Harem Anime that something ! So GO FIGHT RITSUKA! Don’t let those Devils mess with you !

She is not the typical girl who is innocent unaware with what’s going on and act shy. However with Ritsuka is this case, she is already half aware with what is going and does stand up to decide for herself rather than let others tell her and take it as is.
I didn’t like Lindo either. Although his song helped me forget that he was her brother and all xD

I’m sure that would have been fun… In a way… I guess the appreciation of this episode is highly linked to if you like sadistic Yanderes or not. But yeah, I saw you didn’t really liked Mage in the previous episode ( Me either by the way) so not liking Shiki is knd of logical because of all the “dominant” stuff. Well, next episode his the blue hair guy, if luck is on our side, he might be nice. But I doubt it XD he was a complete Asshole in Rindo’s episode with all the possessed puppets and stuff. Yeah the song (and the visuals) had rape tones so I didn’t like it either, though the melody itself was nice. Idk what to say, I knew Shiki was going to be the most creepy and gross one. So…yeah. Also, I appreciate that the protagonist’s best friend is actually has a role unlike other reverse harems where the best friend is nonexistent or just isn’t important.

What’s more interesting is that Shiki never asked about the grimoire, unlike the others. Even he seems to distance himself from the one-upping going on with the other 3. You could also say he was interested in Ritsuka as a person, not as the grimoire map.
Creepy or not, he’s pretty artistic. He wasn’t just playing with flowers, he was doing flower arrangement. (Notice he backs away after finishing the lilies to get artistic perspective.) And sewing the teddy bear last episode.
Next week’s episode title, the pas de deux, is a male-female ballet duet. It’s generally used to convey an intimate, romantic scene between partners in classical ballet.
I wonder how Blue-hair intends to romance Ritsuka?
I have to admit I dropped Dance with Devils after episode 2, and no, it’s not because it’s not interesting (episode 1 hooked me like crazy with the musics and visuals), but because there isn’t any male character I like in this anime. I probably can stomach it were it not a reverse harem. Maybe. I’m not so sure. They’re all interesting in their own way, sure, but they’re not my type. I always get an impression that in reverse harem, we are expected to choose one male character we like the most. And I don’t like them all. I love herbivores. And this is a reverse harem with demons. And vampires. And incestuous exorcist. So we don’t match. Even when the visual is good. Oh God. Oh why. Sob. More sob. Heavy sob in a dark corner…
I just… well… let me just sit here and read your reviews, yeah? If it turns out good (read: an herbivore is introduced or something), I’ll be back to watch that exact episode. Maybe. Sigh.
I understand what you mean, I’m not that excited about the guys of this show either. But I enjoy the songs and it makes me forget the thing that they all are kind of Diabolik Loverish. Shiki’s song made me uncomfortable too. I want to like him, since I love fangirling over yandere characters, but he was downright creepy. I like his voice though.
And oh gosh, I am SO RELIEVED that you still consider it incest. All over Tumblr people are shipping Lindo and Ritsuka, and it grosses me out. 1) They’re cousins, so they’re still blood related. 2) Since Lindo’s mother died when he was very young, it’s possible he didn’t even realize he’s not Ritsuka’s direct brother. Which means they’re still siblings in his head. –> incest. 3) Even if he knew, Ritsuka grew up with him as an older brother. So again, it’s still incest. It boggles my mind that people think that ship is actually okay! He’s not being “brother-zoned,” he IS her brother!!

Same here. If they are cousin, this is incest for me. But, yeah, I also saw people shipping them saying ” Oh, he’s not her brother! So it’s not incest”…. Well, they are cousin you know, still blood related.
At this point, I began to doubt about my own definition of incest. So I did some researches on Incest Laws, on the definition of incest depending on the countries and stuff (because obviously I don’t have anything better to do with my life).
Apparently some countries are still tolerating marriage between first cousins. So maybe because it’s legal in some countries people might think that between first cousins it’s okay and that it’s not incest anymore…
There’s also scary articles all around the internet (some are even made by big newspapers) saying that there’s nothing wrong with first-cousin incest because the risk of getting a child with genetics deflects is low.Some are also listing all the famous people that had an incest relationship with their first cousin, like trololol famous people had incest relationship, why not you ?
