One Punch Man Episode 3: The Obsessive Scientist

Just as we left off last week with Gorilla, we get some background on the scientist from the House of Revolution. He was a man that never had his ideas taken seriously and were ignored by his peers and deemed dangerous. He doesn’t like humans and thinks all humans to be stupid, except himself. And so he set out to work on evolving humans to create new species. It took years until he reached old age where he was able to figure it out by combining humans and animals, he made himself younger, and he also cloned himself and we stop there because Saitama got annoyed by another long backstory so Gorilla summed up that scientist Genus wants his body. Making it clear that Genus doesn’t want Saitama for gay reasons but for science reasons, Genos and Saitama decide to go to the lab to bring an end to this or risk facing another attack,

They make it there and Genos completely obliterates the place because it’s better to just kill anyone right off the bat, but Saitama’s a little disappointed because he wanted to check out the villains. Lucky for him they found a basement.

Genus, appalled that his most fearsome and strongest team to be destroyed, he has no choice but to unleash the lab’s most dangerous and uncontrollable creature, Carnage Kabuto. He orders Kabuto to capture Saitama dead or alive and our main duo face him (after Genos was made into modern art). Genos fights him first but can’t come to harm him and instead he’s the one that gets beaten. Also getting an afro after get countered by his own fire blast.

The rest of the episode is hilarious and awesome. One Punch Man continues to make fun of certain tropes, like how the main character becomes powerful. Saitama is 100% serious when he says he did 100 push-ups, 100 sit-ups, and 100 squats every single day. Also he didn’t use the AC during the summer so he could train his mind, but mainly it was to save money. It’s important to eat three meals a day (a banana in the morning is fine). He did the same training regimen every day for years and the next thing he knew, he became an egghead. Genos gets angry and thinks Saitama is joking but he’s not, that’s seriously all he did. And just the expressions he made when speaking was so funny. But then Kabuto also thought he was holding back the truth and became so angry he got into Carnage Mode and started pummeling Saitama. He said he was so angry that after dealing with Saitama he would go into the city and go on a rampage for a whole week, until next Saturday. Saitama realizes his mistake of making Kabuto mad, but when he realizes it’s Saturday when he actually thought it was Friday…oh no…

He mixed his days up for the sale at the supermarket!

Getting angry at himself, he punches Kabuto and kills him and yells and goddamn this is just too damn funny and ridiculous. Genos explains to the scientist why Saitama is mad, and then reassures Saitama that they can make it to the sale if they hurry up. So without a word to Genus they punch a hole through the wall and make a dash to the supermarket. And Genus gives up his want for evolution.

Watching One Punch Man, it’s fun and hilarious. But when I actually describe the events of the episodes in my reviews, I just realize how ridiculous it is and it’s even funnier. I love how the training room changed colors when Kabuto went into Carnage Mode, very cool. I just love the humor, it picks fun at shonen tropes and shows how dumb they can sometimes be. You want to be a hero? Just follow Saitama’s regimen every single day, and then you, too, can also run at super speed and destroy things with one punch. But keep in mind, side effects include balding.
