I don’t know why, but when I watch this show I hear the song ‘Pop song’ by Jon Lajoie.
“Girl, I’m a sexually attractive man
That makes me a good artist”
I mean, it’s not that any of these guys are bad singers, dancers or whatever it takes to get into the musical department at this school. It’s just that, they’d also all very good looking. They’re also being used by Otori as a way to show what a total rebel and unorthodox kind of person he is to the Kao Council. He takes them in and puts them on a Star Team when they don’t even pass the standards to be in the department anyway.
So basically, they all failed horridly last episode but because Otori is determined to make a show and stand out, they get in and get a chance. I can’t say if I like Otori or not for sure yet. I mean, he has some good points to be sure. In particular, I got a REALLY good kick out of the part where Tengenji is being a jerk at the beginning of the episode and asks if one of them [Yuta] got in by mistake and Otori’s like “Oh, you mean you?”
BURN.
Good job, points there. Yes, please shut down the self-absorbed one. I don’t care if he’s from some famous family, or is some kind of Kubuki legend. He’s nothing at this school. Need I remind you that nobody on Otori’s star team actually passed their auditions to get into the musical department to begin with. Not that he knows that, but seriously, just because Yuta transferred in from another school and wasn’t in that previous schools music program doesn’t mean anything.
So anyway, for Otori’s first test of their skill he hands them a script and assigns the parts. Of course, Yuta ends up being the ‘main’ in the way that he gets to play the Detective. The play being about four brothers, one of which had murdered their father. The problem here is, it’s only the first part of the scene. As the culprit is about to be revealed, we end up with a blank page.
Improv time!
Most of the guys in the Star Team are pretty good. Nayuki, Tengenji and Kaito nail it. Shuu, playing the silent brother doesn’t have any dialogue at all during the improv really but is the greatest help to Yuta. When he’s confused and unsure of who the culprit was. Shuu slides Yuta a piece of paper, the supposed note with the fathers ‘dying message’ on it. Which was actually a blank sheet of paper.
Either way, they wrap up the scene by Yuta naming Shuu as the killer and Shuu poisoning himself to death as a result. Otori calls an end to the practice and lets the boys go.
Then he meets with Hiragi from the Kao council and they have this talk and Hiragi sounds all antagonistic. Then at the end of the episode, we have Otori in his office with pictures of all the people on his team. He’s sure that he can train up most of them and wonders if it’s worth gambling on Yuta. Who i think is like…his diamond in the rough.
Who Tengenji prompting demands that he throw off the team because he messed up a little during the improv. I don’t like this guy, i REALLY don’t. From the preview it looks like next episode will be dedicated to trying to get the audience to like this guy. You can try anime, you can try.
The songs in this episode are as follows. “I’m Otori, the guy who picked you and here’s how awesome I am.” and “look at me, I’m a cute shota boy who is your friend![‘friend is a lose term to fangirls’]” In particular when you ride around on a dolphin. Oh, also, I think it’s funny that Yuta is like “I came to this school to find this one guy. boy it sure would be great to be on stage with that one guy. that hot silver haired senpai who is totally not the guy who’s star team i’m on.” like, really? you seem to have a pretty large hard on for this guy you saw on stage and you can’t recognize him? Is it because his hair got longer? Is it the pony tail? Is it that he isn’t sprouting wings in the middle of your classroom?
I’m sorry, I’m probably being pretty rough on him but if he remembered the decal on the guys shirt that well. He can remember his face/hair color enough to tell the similarities at least. Well, Chari will be here next week to tell you about the adventures of the red haired jerk-bag….make me like him show.

All Hail to Nayuki the dolphin prince !
I particularly loved his song transition : ” No, Yuta, you’re not alone or whatever because I’m your friend” * Dolphins, prince outfit and flowers* . That’s right buddy, that’s how you do a great song about friendship while at the same time showing that you’re perfectly straight. ୧ʕ•̀ᴥ•́ʔ୨
And of course I will be there to count the marvelous story of our lovely red-douche. But only if he has the balls to shows up after Otori’s burn
