…. I knew this would end with a cliffhanger, and man, this duel going to be real ugly now.
Let me just say, regardless Shun wins or loses, the sole fact he was able to force Dennis to take off his mask is a victory in itself. Shun’s entire strategy was based on confirming his suspicions, and while Dennis was aware of it, he wasn’t expecting him to actually have tricks up his sleeves to reveal his hand.
At the end of the day, it all fell into line of no matter what- the truth of where Dennis’ loyalties lies was going to be revealed within this duel. It was all because of Dennis’ ominous first draw, forcing him to hold the polymerization card within his hand, which then later he learned Shun had a trap prepared to force him to reveal his cards.
It was a moment to go big or go home, and Dennis decided since his truth affiliation has been revealed, the goes all out, boldly uses all of the Academia’s basic monsters, and embraced his role as the villain from Academia. The grand reveal of his fusion monster: Ancient Gears Chaos Giant. The audience have no idea that they are are about to experience a similar or greater bloodbath than what the Standard Realm had sat through during the match between Shun VS Sora.
I didn’t even need to see Shun’s flashback afterwards to know the Ancient Gears Chaos Giant was the silhouette we have seen in both Yuuto’s and Shun’s memories. But I have to say, seeing it in action, terrorizing the XYZ Realm left a chilling effect. In fact, there was a lot of chilling moments within this duel, such as Trapeze Magician’s creepy clown laughter, and the carefully selected camera angles they decided to frame him in, revealing the more sinister aura from what we had previously seen as a playful and spectacular Performage.
This is the turning point for this arc. The storm the Synchro Realm is about to face has arrived upon the shores. Yuuya and Yuzu are startled by this reveal, but I am actually more surprised how Yuuya didn’t freak out immediately like I thought he would- and I hope he can do that in his own way. He has been through this before with Sora, so it is nothing new, but the scab which has just recently harden to begin the healing, has been torn off to bleed again. Yuuya is going to be facing a heartache, but with his new resolve, I am most curious to see how his overall reaction will be this time. If Dennis were to defeat Shun, I would suspect Yuuya would be more angry than sad because of Dennis’ betrayal, where as on the other-hand, if Shun were to defeat him- Yuuya would at least know, Shun is safe for now and two, he had managed to successfully weed out a double-agent. But further more, I am most curious about how Yuugo is reacting to this situation – that is, if he has been watching. If so, would hope he would be able to connect the dots based on the knowledge he had received from Yuzu.
The board is quite upset about how the Lancers had a mole within them, but Reiji fires back, claiming he already came prepared there may be an infiltrator in their team, but what about them. The board is probably not prepared for Jean-Roger’s true reveal, and this may be the card that Reiji has been waiting for ever since he learned the truth, to get the council to form an alliance with them.
Next week, Sora appears to be there- welp. I don’t know if this is a flashback or he too is in the Synchro Realm. If HE is there, then god help us if Yuuri is there too. In the coming weeks I hear there will be a new OP, I am looking forward to it-but I won’t lie, I am also nervous to what it will reveal. What kind of shitstorm are we in store for?
What I liked about this episode most is how in their previous duel they take advantage of their experiences. As well as how Trapeze Magician represented as Dennis “Mask” showing that tried as hard to keep it intact but Shun prevailed with the expense of it somewhat saving Dennis life points.
Since Yuto is absorbed in Yuya it will probably be more of his flashbacks being shown to Yuya or Yuto coming out in general pissed off especially Shun will be super pissed with the fact that a fusion user who destroyed one of his homeland have pull an even more of an ass move by using Xyz as not only a clever cover but a way of mocking them in case of any survivors. Also I have this strange suspension that there will be a flashback that includes Ruri to finally show how was kidnapped with possibly involving Dennis as a way of making the duel all the more personal.
As for Reiji not exactly knowing of Dennis, I’ve already come to the confusion of just how much of a risk taker he is for example of giving Dennis a crap ton of Pendulum cards in comparison to the other Lancers that aren’t Yuya.
Actually the new op is in october. I would guess they would want to get this duel out of the way first before switching it up.

Oh no I don’t even want to think what will happen if Yuri shows up. Especially with how Shun would respond to him and Sora, and possibly, how things might go if Shun LOST and Yuri shows up. I’m also curious if Yuto is going to do anything from within Yuya since we haven’t seen him in awhile, but if anything’s going to bring him out, I bet it’s gonna be his best friend going up against a fusion-user. It might just take Yuto’s help to calm Shun down since I doubt he’s gonna be very happy next episode. Either way, I really hope Yuto shows up again because I can’t bear not seeing him for this long. I need to see Yuto again I love him so much.
Awesome post, by the way, I love watching your reactions to the new episodes since I generally agree with them and I end up considering things I didn’t before.
Hey just wanted to remind you that the new op and ed will not be airing until ep. 76 (Oct 4) not the next episode, I hope this doesn’t count as a spoiler or anything, just don’t get your hopes up, because next week we’ll probably get the 777th special opening again ^_^
On another note since it will be the last time Arc of Smile will be playing, and also maybe Shun will have more flashbacks, maybe we’ll finally get to know Ruri’s color scheme (place your bets people :P)

Ten bucks Ruri is gonna be red and black, like Rin Tohsaka with short hair or something. Totally calling it. I mean, Serena’s dark blue/purple, Yuzu’s pink, and Rin (from Arc-V) is green. The only area of the primary colors untouched is red, which would totally fit in with Zexal’s color pallet.
You have to remember though, she’s Shun’s sister, so I expect them to look similar.
The new OP is set for episode 76, which is the following week. I think we have one more week of the 777 opening.
Two points that didn’t really make sense for me were Dennis’s comments in his room before the duel started, and his cry for Trapeze Magician when it was destroyed. That’s definitely the moment that his cover is 100% gone, but it almost sounds as though he actually cares about Trapeze Magician? It was weird.
It likely would have broken the mood and continuity to show Yuuya immediately freak out, so it’ll likely happen in the next episode.
At least Reiji didn’t claim that THIS was also according to plan, even if he took it as a possible contingency.
Hmm.. I wonder if Dennis really did care for Trapeze magician, he did sound/seem upset that it was destroyed. And not just because his cover was blown up.

For some reasons I start to like Dennis after this episode, when I kinda hated him before because he was a spy and too joyful and ???, I have no idea why, probably because I feel he actually enjoy this and wants to keep the mask on? Looking at his face when his Trapeze got swiped out, it doesn’t look like he was entirely acting.
I am rooting for Shun but if he ends up winning it would be boring in a way? LOL. Now if Sora and Yuuri going to interupt the Cup then it gonna be one hell of a fight.
This just got real! Even though we had suspicions about Dennis alliance and some may’ve already called it. When the reveal was actually done, they did it in a way that was still scary and would surprised anyone with the sudden change in attitude. That’s why i love Arc-V and so far it is my favourite out of all of them, even the orginal because i don’t factor nostalgia, even with the nostalgic value it only comes in third on my list being surpassed by 5ds and then this.
I sincerely hope Yuya doesn’t act like Yuma did when he got betrayed, Yuma pretty much whinged about it until someone slapped him back to reality. Although Yuya hasn’t known Dennis that long so i don’t think he’s going to think THAT much of it…
