Nattsun did some time travelling after all.
Impression
I think a flashback scene with the last ‘generation’ of students in Asahigaoka was an amazing idea – especially as we get to see more of the characters who aren’t usually around, like Hika-nee or Konomi. Not that they were particularly different when they were younger. Candy Store must have hit a growth spurt after that scene though, because she looks like a full-fledged adult these days – and for some reason everyone still called her Dagashiya even though she was still a student back then. She has a name, Konomi. I don’t know what it is, but she has one! Everyone was really cute back then – Natsumi was loli and was more prone to crying, and Koma-chan was… still loli, and still prone to crying (so she was basically the same as she is now). Ren-chon was a baby, but still just as based – she killed the bear, Natsumi-chan’s tower and everyone’s lunch all in the space of a few minutes, and did it without getting hurt! I envisaged the curry spill scene ending with it getting all over her! What black magic is this?!
As for the woodwork scene, I was in awe of Ren-chon’s brilliance and slightly disappointed by everyone else. Like Nattsun, I didn’t know what the heck her creation was at first, but after she demonstrated it I was like: “IT’S A NEE-NEE AWAKENER!” In these scenes, Nii-chan often plays the unsung hero with his masterful range of skills, so I was hoping to watch his slab of wood turn into a piece of fine art or something – although the fact that he was able to bend it somehow and nail the two sides together is impressive in itself. And I wanted Hotarun to craft a wood statue of Koma-chan – I knew the plushies would make their return from the opening eyecatch, so that would have been amazing. But yes, Nee-nee is a terrible teacher for letting her students use saws unsupervised. Also, I do agree that Ren-chon’s toilet doorknob looks like a duck, but only because of the screws above the lock and the direction the lock faces. If it’s not positioned exactly like that, it looks nothing like a duck.
I guess we did get some plushies in the end, so it’s all good – also, it was nice that Koma-chan wanted to patch up her bear herself, instead of just asking Hotarun to do it for her. I also eagerly await the day when a Koma-chan plushie is available for sale in real life, because I would totally buy one.
Ehm… but the plushies are real…
