Hooray! It’s time for Gate! Now that they’re back in Japan there’s going to be some excitement! Right?….right? What do you mean we’re not? Wait….what does the episode of World Trigger where Wet Blanket having to explain his actions to the government have to do with anything? What? Really? Aw crap. Fine..fine let’s just start with the recap.

So everyone including the princess show up in Japan and they are flabbergasted at all the buildings because they’re so large thinking that they must be really advanced to have such structures.

Mother of god.....They have a Starbucks!
Mother of god…..They have a Starbucks!

That’s when one of the guys who works for the government shows up and decides to read Itami’s backstory to everyone. Not even joking.

"and then in fourth grade, he earned the nickname pee pants."
“and then in fourth grade, he earned the nickname ‘pee pants’.”

Long story short, he was lazy and terrible at his job so they decided to give him crazy training and he passed it so now he’s a ranger and a member of the Japanese green berets. And…for some reason the female soldier goes crazy trying not to believe it.

It DOESN'T taste like apple!
Apple Jacks DOESN’T taste like apple!

So after they set off, they decide to stop off for lunch at a rice bowl chain, and the princess has some. Not going to lie, this scene’s kind of adorable

Why can't this series have more scenes like this?

Eventually they all make it to the public hearing where the people from the other side of the gate are finally going to talk to the Japanese public for the first time. And of course there, there’s a bitch woman who starts complaining about how a bunch of refugees died when the red dragon attacked and how it must all be the SDF’s fault that they died.

Who prints these signs? Like....her interns?
Who prints these signs? Like….her interns?

The mage girl’s the first one to be interviewed and she elaborates that they did everything in their power to help everyone. The elf girl’s unfortunately not very helpful because she was unconscious. However, that’s when Rory takes the stage. Thinking she’s wearing mourning clothing, the woman starts to lay into her, hoping that she will talk about how terrible of a job the Self defense force did. What happens next is pretty funny. Rory tells her that she’s stupid and a little girl.

She then goes on a rant about how the SDF did a great job and they didn’t let 1/4 of the people died, they saved 3/4 of them. This is especially funny because when the woman questions her because she called her “little girl” it’s revealed that she’s over 900 years old as she is an exhuman who became a demi-god.

This is basically where the talks end for now and we cut to the princess who’s talking to some people who represent the Japanese people in private. It turns out that they actually have around 6000 prisoners from that first attack in Ginza and are willing to give them back. They want to return a select few now as a gesture of good faith, and offer her the choice.

I guess you could call it a "Life Note" aha. aha. ah....i'm so witty.

Following this Itami is charged with taking them all to the next location that they’ll be staying at. Unfortunately there’s obviously other people who are interested in them so Itami has to fool them by sending a decoy bus as well as faking them out on the subway. Who? Well we don’t really know.

Finally after running around for a bit he eventually takes them all to an apartment who we find out that it belongs to his ex-wife.

Why the hell does this guy have an ex-wife?
Why the hell does this guy have an ex-wife?

And that’s basically where the episode ends.

Yeah, honestly, I was expecting a little more whimsy in this episode and a little less…. woman yelling at them at the meeting.

Yeah....can't say I was really looking forward to you random woman
Yeah….can’t say I was really looking forward to you random woman

There was a tad bit of funny stuff, but it really wasn’t as much as I was hoping for. Rory was pretty funny with her scolding the woman as well as holding onto Itami in the subway because she was afraid of a lord of the deep earth taking her away to be his bride.

Crap..they actually DO make a cute couple

This episode seemed to focus a good portion of the episode on that discussion they had at the diet. It was cool for a few minutes, but it kept on going. Honestly, the biggest problem I have with this show, is that it’s a very bad series to watch weekly. This is one of those shows you really have to marathon. Waiting week to week is a pain in the ass and if I had the option, I would have loved to have watched it all at once. The other shows this season I’m okay with waiting weekly, but this show feels like it’s a long story that needs to be watched all at once.

And the thing is, this series seems like it’s going to be 24 episodes, so i’m in the long haul for another season with this show. Which is going to irritate me if it keeps being left on notes like this every episode. Then again, I guess there’s things to be said about leaving them wanting more…so I guess it’s okay.

And, I know this show isn’t really known for it..but..I’m KINDA starting to ship Rory and Itami. Yeah yeah, I know, leave me alone. I think they’re cute.

I don’t know what’s going to happen coming up, but i’m interested to find out. Will you have anything to do with it Mr. President?

His ex-wife was texting him in the previous episodes, so it wasn’t that surprising. It was a good reveal though. I assumed that it was just his sister or something. xDDD

As a manga-reader of this series i must say.. even in the manga i skipped all this political blabbering because, damn what a loooong talk but the anime version is sort of.. i guess easier to endure. Lucky us there wont be such long talks over nothing anymore (even though the goal is to have this connect more deeply to the “real world” instead of leaving it be as “only fantasy world” )
the relationship between itami and rory (btw since most asians cant say “R” which turns to “L, Rory = Loli xD… not that “pina co lada” is a more creative name) is probably the only ship that is elaborate.. the others are having a rather different kind of relationship (does not make those less interesting since we have an “arc” because of it)
Oh and you can enjoy the next episode probably more than this one, as this episode is kind of.. special i guess o.O
