Well, we are back with Gate, and I have to say, this episode was much much better than last week’s. For the first time in a few weeks, I have to say, I had a lot of fun with this episode. Why did I have fun with this episode? Well, I’m just going to jump right in and start up with the recap.
Quick sidestep before we begin. Remember how I said that as of then, I didn’t like “Wah Daddy” and I would call her that until she stopped pissing me off? Well this episode did actually give her a promotion in my head. I’m not going to call her by her name yet, but as of now, she gets promoted from “Wah Daddy” to “The Princess”. So, good job. See? It’s not that hard animes. You CAN change my mind on characters. (except Miia from Monster Musume. Seriously, fuck you Miia)
So the episode starts up with the princess seeing that her subordinates had captured the main guy (Itami) and she is INCREDIBLY pissed at them for doing so, as now, they can use this as an excuse to attack them because they broke the treaty in the same day they drafted it.
Meanwhile, while this is going on, the female army girl is thinking that Itami might be dead at this point. The rest of the group isn’t too worried as they reveal that he’s a Ranger. And apparently a Ranger is someone who’s gone through super special awesome training and kicks all the ass.
They still think they should go rescue him though as they sneak into the castle. While this is going on The princess tells her servants to treat Itami wonderfully. As they’re doing so the army guys arrive to rescue him but see that he’s doing just fine.
Cut back to the princess who tells the subordinate that kidnapped him that the only way to avoid disaster is for the subordinate to offer her body up to Itami as an apology. So she readies herself, goes in to do the nasty, but sees everyone enjoying themselves, complete with a catgirl and a bunny girl maid.
Thinking that Itami is ignoring her, she then slaps him.
Immediately following this, the princess face palms telling her subordinate that she fucked up the treaty twice in one day and she thinks the only way to avoid war now is to beg forgiveness from Itami. Unfortunately Itami has to go back to Japan to report everything that’s going on. Because of this, The Princess insists that she comes back to his camp, so she can formally apologize for what happened.
Itami’s superiors allow it and she can come back to camp to talk.
They talk for a while, but it’s obvious that they’ve no intention of starting a war with them and are more amused that Itami got his shit messed up, for what the guy with the glasses thinks, was being pervy.
They don’t understand this however and insist on coming back to Japan to talk with the Japanese to make sure that they understand that it was a misunderstanding. They allow it and everyone (including the magic girl who is now the translator, and the elf) head back to Japan, and that’s where the episode ends.
Like I said in the beginning, I really enjoyed this episode. It didn’t have a lot of action, but it was a lot of fun. One or two of the previous episodes in the past didn’t have a lot happen and were kind of slow, but this episode, while not having a lot going on was very fun to watch.
And here’s the clincher for me. It is no surprise that going into this show I did not like the princess…like…at all. I kind of fucking hated her guts, hence why I named her “Wah Daddy”. But this episode, I have to say, I laughed at her more than anything. She’s become interesting.
This is something that is INCREDIBLY rare for anyone who knows me. For me to hate a character at the beginning of a show and then for me to even remotely change my mind about them. Usually when I get an opinion I stick to it, but this character….is an anomaly. I don’t know what to say about her yet. I don’t know if she’s going to revert to being an idiot or if she’s going to keep growing. Because as of right now…I like the direction she’s taking. I just don’t know if they’re going to keep it up.
The show in itself is a strange anomaly actually. So many people die in this show, yet…it’s almost a comedy as the violence is like watching a balloon army fighting the cactus brigade. And the comedy that goes with this show is actually pretty genuinely funny. The previous few episodes made me slightly less interested than I had been in the past, however, this episode really brought me back into the show.
This is one of the episodes that really makes me mad that i’m reviewing these shows weekly and I can’t just marathon the whole thing. So you know what? Good job Gate. You got me reinterested in the show AND you made me not hate the princess. touche show…touche.
Episode 9/10

I can’t say for sure whether you’ll grow to like the princess more (or even simply continue to tolerate her) or not, but that’s just because I’ve never managed to figure out your tastes beyond the fact that you don’t like most of the shows you blog. However, all the development she had in this episode is the path she will continue on. Not necessarily the throwing cups at peoples’ heads thing, but the “if we fight these people we are so f!$king f#&ked, so I have got to convince everyone to stop fighting, no matter what” thing.
I, at least, came to like her quite a bit as the story progressed futher. We’ll see how things turn out in the anime, and what you decide to do.
