Oh Tsubasa…I just…I can’t be too mad at her. She’s a teenager, she thinks she knows shit even though she doesn’t. I said this last week, but…agh, she was bugging me this episode.
She completely ignores the other Gatchaman, coddles Gel like he’s some sort of baby (which he kinda is), she insults the team, and she resigns from them as well. It’s not wrong to have your own ideals, but Tsubasa is just way too ignorant. Whenever Rui starts talking Tsubasa always cuts him off and says she doesn’t understand the difficult things he talks about, and she also gets angry at him because the confrontation was making Gel sad. I’ll get to the babying in a bit, but…ugh. Tsubasa, you’re only a teenage girl. To claim yourself to know more about the world is just ignorant especially since she lived out in the countryside and never stepped out of it until now when she became a Gatchaman. Living out in the country and living in the city are two different lifestyles and experiences. People in the country are not the same as the people in the city. Also, people in general just don’t think the same way and we saw this here when the team went to go confront Tsubasa.
She doesn’t listen. She doesn’t want to understand. It’s ironic because she claims to understand the world more, but when there are people in front of her that don’t agree with her, she brings up the excuse of not understanding “difficult” stuff and shuts them down. The more mature thing to do would be to sit down and just ask Rui, “What do you mean? I don’t understand difficult things, can you explain it another way?”. Like, there’s nothing wrong with that. And it certainly must mean a lot when the whole team disagrees with you, minus Pai Pai. Really he’s the only one that thinks that Gel and Tsubasa are doing the right thing because they’re close to having the Earth be taken off the security list. But really, the rest of the team is either unsure or plain against what Tsubasa and Gel are doing.
We saw that when Utsusu was cleaning near Gel’s speech place at the park, her emotion bubble looked distressed, but she probably was annoyed. Honestly I was too with all of this “Gerururu” two-fingers-on-head thing everyone was doing, I kinda wanted to die. Sugane seems unsure, so does OD (poor guy got kicked off the show). Rui is definitely against, Joe is on that side too, and we’re finally seeing some opposition from Hajime. And just like always, she’s more perceptive than we think.
She knows that there’s something up with Gel and Tsubasa isn’t telling them. With the new prophecy JJ sent them, it mentioned something “Scarlet”. It’s not VAPE again of course, but we know something else that is red and everyone’s minds go straight to Gelsadra. They ask if anything’s been weird about him lately, and Tsubasa is obviously not telling them the truth. She claims he’s fine, nothing’s wrong, it’s all good. Hajime asks again, if there really is anything wrong. Later at her apartment she talks with Berg Katze for awhile, asking his opinion on Gel. He says he’s a piece of shit but that he would never actually say that to his face. Hm, red flag there. Then in the end of the episode, Berg starts talking again saying how he actually ran away from Gel when they met and how they’re all screwed and need to be careful of the guy. And naturally that freaks the team out a lot. Berg Katze, who we saw last season as a sadistic monster, ran away from Gel. That freaks me out too.
After so much absorbing of everyone’s thoughts, Gel’s body takes this…odd shape, like he’s gained weight. Everyone can see this and Joe points it out asking if he’s okay (of course not), and Tsubasa completely dismisses it. It’s funny how reporters asked Gel if he and Tsubasa were dating because hell no they’re not because she acts like his fucking mother. She hugs him, defends him, is always by his side, blah blah blah. Enough. ENOUGH. Stop treating him like a baby. People don’t agree with him, wah wah boo hoo, he starts crying. No it’s okay sweetie they’re wrong and you’re right. NO. Wrong. Tsubasa and Gel are both ignorant and that ignorance they’ll have to pay next episode, when those monster things attack, and I can’t wait to see Tsubasa’s face when she finds out how those things were made. Also, I’m curious to know how powerful those things out to have made Berg run away.
Also, isn’t it totally awkward to always have a zoomed in shot of Hajime’s boobs whenever she talks to Berg? Because her boobs are huge. I’m just glad that this show doesn’t sexualize her. But couldn’t she have absorbed Katze in her stomach instead of her boobs?
This is also the product of people being willing to let Gel Sadra do all the thinking for them. Instead of thinking for themselves they let Gel do it by absorbing their emotion bubbles, which has clearly backfired so the people of Japan will pay for choosing the easy way to “unity and peace”.
You know Berg waited until he knew shit was getting bad to tell them all this. Most likely the hints this episode that he’s getting weaker because there’s so much unity is probably him trying to get a bit more fun out of his life before he disappears.
