Masaomi Kida is back in Ikebukuro. We knew that last week but nothing hit that point home harder then the moment he met with Mikado for the first time since the end of season one. I’d like to tell you that it was a heart felt reunion between friends, but this isn’t that kind of series. I should back up and explain how they meet anyway because that’s an important point to this episode.
Ruri’s stalker is in the dollars, or more I should say that her stalkers are in the dollars. A group of people including the shark toothed, picture licking weirdo met up through the dollars and exchanged information off of a Ruri fan site on a secret forum.
Well as everyone will recall, Shinra was getting beaten up by one of Ruri’s stalkers. Shinra however, was not their only target. Their other targets included Anri and Shizuo. I have to say, attacking Shizuo is nobodies greatest idea, however, they never even get the chance to attack. The first attacker, armed with a thing of acid gets taken down by Verona and the next one coming to back his buddy up. Gets taken down by a apparent member of the Blue Squares.
He follows him and discovers a group of Blue Squares in a scuffle with the shark toothed guy, who is chasing down the cat that had escaped from Anri’s house.
One of them who has their mask completely on, one that Masaomi believes is Aoba gets his face kicked in and Masaomi steps in. He’s about to get his face kicked in when the masked man throws lighter fluid on the shark toothed man and sets his back on fire. We remove the mask and find that it is in fact, Mikado under the mask. Nobody is manipulating him, well at least as far as Masaomi can see.
Mikado says that he’s close, close to creating a place that both Masaomi and Anri can feel safe and be happy in. So until he creates that, he suggests that they don’t see each other yet. As Kida and Anri meet, he says something similar after returning the cat and the last thing we see of the episode is him calling some of his friends from the Yellow scarves.
However, this isn’t even close to the only thing going on in the episode. Shingen is cutting off ties and trying to learn ways of revenge due to the harm inflicted on his son, Jinnai is up to no good at all trying to capture all of the monsters in town. Yes, that includes Anri, Celty, and Ruri. Then there is Izaya, who while playing two personalities on the internet gets told by Namine that he’s a friendless person.
He says that’s absolutely not true, he loves all humans and everyone in this room. He loves them too and considers them friends, we pan out to see various people sitting in his apartment. A few familiar faces, a few unfamiliar faces. Then the moment of the episode that gave me the largest laugh, is when he asks if they would like to share a hot pot to cement their friendship.
Is he really still stuck up on that? I don’t honestly think he cares, but it was a funny throw back none the less. This was a heavy episode all around, I’m seriously worried about Mikado’s state of mind. The way he acted around Masaomi, the fact that he hacked into the sites illegally even if it may of saved lives. Also, with the Blue Squares, the Dollars, the Yellow Scarves and Izaya’s legion of doom all coming together. The war that Izaya desires to awaken Celty’s head may be at hand faster then anyone would like.
I believe i’ve said this before, but I have not gotten the chance to read the light novels. So every week is a thrill for me, sitting on the edge of my seat waiting for what’s going to happen next. From the preview, I’d say we have a fair amount of Izaya content coming next week. I’m ready for this.

Izaya made me laugh so damn hard with that hotpot scene. But on the other side of the spectrum, things are heating up around Mikado as he ends up causing Anri to worry (which I’ll bet will be brought up later), Kida FINALLY BACK IN ACTION AFTER 16 EPISODES,and once again the perspective of the real gangs as they’re fully aware of what Mikado’s up to and just waiting to see what happens- just like Izaya. Which brings me back full circle to the whole hotpot scene and Celty’s head. Were its eyes always open like that…?
