Ah, And we are back to the wonderful world of Border and all its nonsense. Since it’s been two weeks since the last episode, I almost forgot what happened last time. Then I saw the first 30 seconds and I was like “Ohhhh yeahhh”. So enough of my making this intro longer than it needs to be and just jump right in.
So the episode picks up immediately where the last one left off with Wet Blanket (Yes, if you haven’t guessed by now I plan on calling Osamu this for the entire run of the show) walking up to speak at a press conference where they were basically going to use him as a scapegoat for the missing people from the battle. However he steps up and then begins to explain his actions to the crowd.
He basically tells them that when he disobeyed orders way back in like episode 3, he knew the risks, but would do it again because he knew he couldn’t let his classmates die.
When another reporter asks how he plans to atone for the missing people he says that he’s going to rescue them. The only issue is that the away missions that the “A” ranks take are not common knowledge to the people. Scarface then pops up and tells the audience that they have been sending “unmanned drones” to test traveling to the neighbor world and their goal is to save not only the 32, but also the 400 that were kidnapped four years ago.
The press seems to be satisfied with this and run off to do their press thing
Wet Blanket then sees his mother who basically tells him that she’s against it, but it’s his life and he can do what he wants, but when he’s done with this, she’ll be waiting for him.
Well enough of that, we have to get on to the B-Rank wars. Because after all, that’s what this episode is titled, right? So yes, Maes Hughes informs the group that they need to be ready to fight in the B-rank wars so that they can become A Rankers and then go on away missions.
After getting enough points
they head to the B-rank wars where there is an announcer girl along with a guy and Wet Blanket who basically explain the rules that the more people they defeat the more points they get, and the higher the score, the higher rank out of the 21 teams they get.
yeah yeah…she’s cute and all….but she’s no Koto from Yu Yu Hakusho.
Actually..hang on….
Know what? That actually makes this much much better. Let’s go with that.
So the fight begins and pretty much in record time, of course, Duckface and Chiaka beat down the two teams. Because of this, they provisionally bump up to rank 12 out of 21. And that’s where the episode ends.
So yeah… this episode didn’t have a LOT of the B-rank wars. In fact, if you add up everything from the B rank wars, you get like five minutes. About half the episode was focused on Wet Blanket, his speeches, and his chat with Scarface, while the rest was setup to the actual B rank wars.
I think they wanted to get the obvious fights out of the way to make way for the actually challenging fights that are going to pop up soon. I’m just sad Konami isn’t in this show more right now. Where’s my Konami damn it?
(Sigh) anyway, Wet Blanket did have some interesting dialogue choices at the beginning of this episode and the whole “we’re going to save them” initiative is pretty cool. This episode is by no means going to set the world on fire, but it was a cute episode. It showed me that Osamu’s mom has a very dry wit which is actually very funny and I have grown to like her quite a bit.
This episode wasn’t exactly what you would call “action packed” but it seems like it might be leading into that, and, for what it is, it’s a decent lead in. So yeah. It was a nice relaxing episode.
Episode 6.5/10
