Ore Monogatari!! Episode 13: Today Is On Me

Here comes the drama. This show needed some drama and now we’re gonna get it. Don’t do it, Ai! Don’t make things awkward!

While on Suna’s birthday, Takeo and Yamato take him out and surprise him with a cake and gift later, which was very sweet and adorable. Later on the trio head to Takeo’s muscle cafe place. Takeo goes on his shift and gets Yamato and Suna some drinks. Knowing Yamato, she doesn’t think him working in the muscle cafe is weird or anything, she just thinks he looks hot and cool.

And then in comes Mr. I’m Gonna Ruin Everything. Oda is a guy that’s in the same seminar as Suna’s sister, who is visiting for the long weekend. He interrupts the group by mistaking Suna for Takeo and that’s when Ai comes in to drag Oda away. Here’s the thing. Oda has feelings for Ai, and he went to the cafe to meet Takeo because he wanted to see how he was like since he knows that Ai has feelings for Takeo? And how did he find this out? Hypnosis. He used hypnosis on her to get her secret out, and now he just wants to get to know how Takeo is to understand why Ai is in love with him. Like any other character in this show, he’s surprised to see just who Takeo is. I’m not sure what to make of Oda. He doesn’t seem like such a bad guy, and his love for Ai seems very genuine. But his plan for the MM Land date sounds terrible. He knows his love for Ai is unrequited, which is the same for Ai with Takeo. She keeps telling him that she’s fine with Takeo having a girlfriend, because Yamato is sweet and he’s very happy. But of course it still hurts her, and Oda can see that.

Takeo had wanted to take Yamato to MM Land, an amusement park but Yamato had declined. With the help of Ai, they find out that there is some sort of weird jinx rumor where if a couple goes to that amusement park together they end up breaking up, and Yamato believed that and didn’t want to go. Oda pops up out of nowhere and decides that all five of them should go, as it’s more of a group of friends hanging out than an actual date. But Oda wants to use this opportunity for Ai to get some closure. He thinks that she can’t move on and be with another man because she was never able to properly confess her feelings to Takeo. So he decides that he’ll separate Takeo and Yamato at the park and give Ai the chance to tell Takeo how she feels.

This is what I mean when I say I can’t get a good grasp of the guy. Is he just doing this for Ai’s sake because he really loves her and wants her to be in peace of mind, or is he really doing this for himself? Does he think that if she really does confess she’ll just move on over to him? And whose to say that Ai will even go through with this. I don’t think she’d want to make things awkward between her and Takeo, and she doesn’t want to jeopardize his relationship with Yamato. She really does look happy for him, and if he’s happy, she’s happy too. I really hope she won’t go through with that plan because I think she’s smarter than that. Then again this provides us with some much needed drama that is typical with shoujo. So far this show has been simple and sweet fun, with us seeing Takeo and Yamato’s relationship play out, which is something we hardly ever see so it’s a nice change of pace than the forced drama of shoujo fashion. But then again if there isn’t any drama, at least a little bit, then I can understand that it can be a little boring. Also, I really like Ai.
